good sampler of various well-known films

I thought the host Roddy McDowell did a nice job narrating this sampler which showed clips of such famous films as "Gone With the Wind," "Ben Hur," "Singing in the Rain," and "Mutiny on the Bounty." What I especially liked was the fact that the film showed bits of a number of films that I would like to see in the future and by writing them down, I now have an organized list.

Interesting, but Still Obvious Profit Tool

MGM video sampler is basically a marketing tool and it such it works.

The clips of 40-60 movies and TV series are interesting and fun to watch, but watching any of the clips in entirety would be preferable. Mr. McDowell is a joy and does an admirably job of preventing video after video. Yet, the presentation wears thin. At 50+ minutes of basically "extended previes" one is left wondering "when is the movie going to start?". Also, the presentation is dated, the movies are all advertised to sell (or Buy affordable priced) at $19.95 or so. VHS at $19.95 has gone the way of the do-do bird and so will this relic of the VHS era.

In all- its good for what it is: "extended previes and Mr. McDowell", but it is well past its prime and now only really lives as an out-dated marketing tool relic oddity.
