A wonderful watch, full of discovery

I couldn't believe I sat in front of the tv eagerly awaiting the commercials to end for this documentary!

Each monument has it's own story and even the city as a whole is a monument to the United States.

Anyone would enjoy this show, young and old alike. I know they have a shortened, educational version, but don't settle for that! Go for the full version, you will NOT be disappointed.

Amazing Discovery of D.C.
carrymeaway0526 March 2007
I have been to Washington 4 times since I entered high school and am now in college and I must admit that it is one of my favorite places in all the world. I watched this video on my first entry through Maryland with my teacher and enjoyed it so much that we decided to make it an annual event while visiting the city. Richard Dreyfus does a great job of narrating but what I really love is how they include so much American history throughout the entire tour of D.C. I am leading another group to Washington this coming up December and I plan to show the video a few weeks before the trip just to get a grasp of what we will all be going on during the week. I also like how they intertwine the different monuments within each other's stories and keep them updated as they go along. Love this documentary. Great for intros to the city.

An excellent look at an "overlooked" city
jbmls4 March 2002
Washington, D.C. probably has the highest number of tourists from around the country and the globe for many reasons. Aesthetically, the most powerful city in the world does justice to itself, but few who travel here know much about the landmarks and monuments that are so easily recognized throughout the world.

Richard Dreyfuss clearly loves Washington, and this well-crafted documentary seems as much a labor of love as an opportunity to share the wealth of knowledge he has, or has been uncovered for him in the creation of this film. His enthusiasm for the monuments, and the fascinating stories behind them, is contagious.

More importantly, as a native of Washington, I was surprised to find out how little I knew of the stories behind the famous facades. Dreyfuss' documentary brought them to life. I think it should be required viewing for anyone planning a trip to Washington -- families and school groups -- and will deeply enrich their experiences. Bravo.
