Gimel Everett, the script supervisor on Deadlock, convinced producer Jack Sunseri to let her and her partner Brett Leonard (then working in a food distribution warehouse) form a makeshift second unit to shoot the unfinished action scenes for the film. Sunseri was impressed with the results and hired them to shoot a zombie horror film in the same location, the abandoned Agnew Developmental Center in Santa Clara, California. That film was The Dead Pit, written in three weeks, shot in three weeks, and co-starring two actors from Deadlock, Stephen Gregory Foster and Jeremy Slate, as well as a small number of big players. Producer Sunseri also appeared in both films in supporting roles.
