The movie makes numerous references to the John Ford classic. Similarities to My Darling Clementine include the Mose being killed while he looks after the wagon (just like when James Earp was killed) and a town that is run by an unscrupoulous landowner and his cronies. Both Wyatt Earp and Charley Waite arrive at their towns when it is raining extremely hard. Additionally, they both fall in love with a woman in the the town. Wyatt Earp decides to leave her behind after the shootout, but in a revisionist manner, Charley says he will come back for Sue Barlow.
