"I Shoulda Done Two . . . "
pixrox11 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
" . . . (James Bond films)--then I could have made seven (like Sean Connery)," a self-deluded George Lazenby crows in this revealing retrospective released in 2000, INSIDE ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. Here are the Top Ten reasons (as disclosed by INSIDE) that made Lazenby's termination as 007 inevitable, according to the other 22 OHMSS cast and crew members quoted here: 1)Despite dialect coaching, George could not talk like Bond, and his voice was DUBBED throughout SERVICE by fellow cast member George Baker (Milli Vanilli, anyone?). 2)Fancying himself the next Hamlet, George was prone to over-emoting (the director had to remind him that "James Bond doesn't cry"). 3)George rubbed his producers the wrong way during the shoot, demanding specially engraved invitations for "star" treatment, though the sum of his previous acting experience was ONE TV AD! 4)George also used his horse to ran Bond's boss "M"--elderly actor Bernard Lee--through a clump of thorny bushes between takes of Bond's wedding scene. 5)SERVICE was the only flop of the first six Eon Company Bond flicks. 6)George delighted in violating the terms of the studio's insurance policy on him. 7)George constantly belittled Sean Connery as "that other guy." 8)George's insecurities led him to wear some of Connery's left-over costumes, though they did not fit properly. 10)George's handling of his orientation or proclivities apparently made some cast and crew members uncomfortable off-camera.

Quite a 'making of'

Warning: Spoilers
A really insightful 'making of' documentary, covering not only how 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' went from page to screen, but also the hiring/letting go of George Lazenby as 007.
