Warning: Spoilers
. . . says a bemused Desmond Llewelyn, the actor who provided the face and voice for James Bond's prop man, "Major Boothroyd," a.k.a., "Q." Llewelyn admits that prior to his continuing role in the Bond series of films, he had never read one of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels, adding "but I read the Bond comic strip in The Daily Express (a London newspaper)." Actor Peter Burton played the Major in DR. NO, the first Bond feature from Eon Production Company, which was released in 1962. When Burton was not available to reprise this role (not yet nicknamed "Q") in the 1963 follow-up, FROM RUSS1A WITH LOVE, Llewelyn stepped in--and held the role for more than three decades. Spouting scientific-sounding gibberish to describe one new-fangled spy craft device after another, Llewelyn proved unflappable (despite third Bond actor Roger Moore's frequent attempts to fluster him). INSIDE Q'S LAB is dedicated to the memory of this inventor of the automobile front seat passenger ejection seat (who wouldn't want one of those?), who died in 1999.
