Mira Sorvino is giving an update on the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion sequel that is in the works.
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner revealed that Robin Schiff is returning to write the follow-up movie, but her work on a Netflix series is keeping her from finishing the script.
“She’s currently working on Emily in Paris, so she’s finishing up her draft to present to the studio,” Sorvino told Us magazine in an interview. “Lisa [Kudrow] and I are wrapping up our deals as executive producers on it with the studio. We’re full force ahead.”
Sorvino and Kudrow starred in the 1997 comedy directed by David Mirkin from a screenplay by Schiff based on the 1988 stage play Ladies Room. The film revolves around the titular characters returning to high school to impress their former classmates, making up fake careers by saying they invented Post-its.

Alan Cumming is blasting Hollywood for Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion not having a sequel. The comedy that starred Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino was released in 1997 and despite talks about filming a follow-up, nothing ever materialized.
“I would love to do a sequel. I have to say, I think the fact that there hasn’t been is a really big example of the misogyny of Hollywood,” Cumming told The A.V. Club in an interview.
The Traitors U.S. host has a theory as to why the comedy directed by David Mirkin never got a sequel.
“You know, I think that the things I’ve heard about why, sort of like, ‘Oh, you know, they’re getting on a bit, older women, blah blah blah.’ Terrible. It’s such a popular film. If it was two men in that, you know, two men successful film, we would’ve had six by now,...

Mira Sorvino has said that she and Lisa Kudrow want to make a follow-up to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
Sorvino, who played Romy White in the 1997 cult comedy hit, told E! that writer Robin Schiff was also on board, but suggested that Disney was holding the project back.
"Disney, if you're listening - everybody wants it!" she said at the Emmy Awards Performers Peer Group Celebration at the Montage Beverly Hills earlier this week.
"Me and Lisa and Robin would love to do a sequel. We have asked Disney before. It's Disney that has to decide to say yes."
She added: "I don't think they realise what a cult phenomenon it has become. I mean, people dress up as us for Halloween!
"People were like, 'Why aren't Romy and Michele at Comic-Con?' I was like, 'It's not a current movie. It's a while ago.'

Mira Sorvino has confirmed she's been in talks to re-team with Lisa Kudrow for a sequel to their cult 1997 movie "Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion". The Oscar-winner joined forces with the "Friends" star to play a pair of ditzy blondes attending a get-together with their childhood friends.
The film spawned a 2005 TV prequel, "Romy and Michele: In the Beginning", starring Katherine Heigl, but Sorvino hopes movie bosses will agree to bring the two original actresses back for a follow-up.
She tells Moviehole.net, "Yeah, we've talked about doing another reunion movie. I don't know (if it will happen). It would be 15 (years after the first movie), but we'll see if it ever happens. It's just so silly and fun and it really has resonance with various audiences. It's just a fun underdog buddy comedy of two very stupid people who have good hearts eventually, so I like that movie."...
