Alpha Flight is Canadian's own Superhero team. In the past, they have been a mutant based team and more recently they have been a planetary earth defense team led by Captain Marvel. Well, Deadpool is sure to have a use for them in the new Deadpool movie... but it's not what you expect.
Recently Hollywood North tweeted an image of a certain advertisement on a taxi for Alpha Flight, cheap flights last minute deals. It appears Deadpool will be including them in name only as an easter egg. I think it's actually a pretty good joke. Having Canada's most famous superhero team relegated to an airline deals company. Well played Deadpool... well played. Check it out below.

If you're a fan of Stephen King's It, there's a new documentary in development that you're gonna want to see. The doc is called Pennywise: The Story of It and it focuses on the development of director Tommy Lee Wallace’s wonderfully made 2-part TV miniseries adaptation that was made in 1990. It specifically focuses on actor Tim Curry‘s incredible portrayal of Pennywise the Clown.
As you know, there's a new film currently in development that looks pretty damn scary. With the resurgence and popularity of It, filmmaker John Campopiano and his team of investigators have announced this new doc they are producing, and they started an IndieGogo campaign to help raise the funds they need to complete it.
One of the coolest things is, they've got Tim Curry on board to talk about his time shooting the film as Pennywise! I'm sure the guy has some great stories! Campopiano...

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

The Canadian film industry produces numerous blockbuster features, as well as popular TV series, in an entertainment business mostly financed by Us Hollywood studios:
Some notable 'Hollywood North' movies produced over the years include "2012", "X-Men: The Last Stand", "Man of Steel", "Star Trek Beyond", "Tron: Legacy", "Titanic", and "I, Robot", all filmed in Vancouver, with "Kick-Ass" and "Suicide Squad" shot in Toronto.
But truly 'Canadian' movies, produced and directed by Canadian film-makers, are not as well known around the world as their Us counterparts. Is it because the Canadian government investing tax dollars into properties, insist their films be representational 'art', while Hollywood films only care about profit ?
Chances are, you will never see a slot machine based on "Jesus of Montreal", or "Goin' Down The Road"...
...while Hollywood's "Terminator" and "Jurassic Park" movies have popped @ the 'Royal Vegas Online Casino' as slot games.

Hollywood North has shared some photos from the Vancouver set of The Flash, and as you can see by following the link in the Tweet below, they offer up a first look at a pretty massive actor wearing a motion capture costume for what the site believes will be the villainous Savitar. Unfortunately, it appears as if Iris West is going to be caught in the crossfire between him and the Fastest Man Alive! It makes sense that this is Savitar, especially as his comic book counterpart is also pretty huge. Why he's being brought to life with special effects remains to be seen, but in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Greg Berlanti confirms that we'll see him appear in episodes six and seven. That means we won't have long to wait until finding out what he looks like. In the same chat, he also reveals that the secret identity of Dr.

When one looks back at mid ‘70s to early ‘80s horror, it’s quite surprising to see how many Canadian made films are nestled among fan favorites. Titles such as Black Christmas, Shivers, Prom Night, Happy Birthday to Me, and My Bloody Valentine continue to delight and shock veteran horror lovers or those just starting their jagged journey down the terror path. There is one, however, that due to a troubled production and poor distribution, seems relegated to the discount bins of time. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on, uh, Curtains (1983), an unsung slasher weirder than a sack full of rabid beavers.
Released by Jensen Farley Pictures in March of ’83 in the Us, and September of ’84 by Norstar Releasing in (my home and) native land, Curtains received a very limited release in both countries, but coming as it did at a time when the Canadian film industry had...

We get excited for Tiff every year, but this year is looking like it should be better than ever. The Canadian features were just announced, and they’ve got us even more amped up for this year’s fest.
Two films that we’re particularly excited about are Robert Budreau’s Born to be Blue and Patricia Rozema’s Into the Forest. Starring Ethan Hawke and Carmen Ejogo, Born to be Blue follows jazz trumpeter Chet Baker as he is cast in a film about himself in the 1960s. Into the Forest stars Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood as two sisters living in a futuristic forest setting. When they venture outside the comfort of home, they find the forest isn’t all that it seems. Max Minghella also stars.
There are a number of noteworthy films brought to us by home-grown talent in the regular programming, as well. Denis Villeneuve...

A few years ago, a veteran U.S. TV director was having trouble finding a gig. So much production was ending up in Canada that Americans were competing for fewer and fewer jobs. “Work started tapering off in the U.S.,” the director said. “I went on two interviews [for work in Canada], and when they found out I wasn’t Canadian, they said, ‘Sorry.’ I remember standing out on the corner and thinking, This won’t happen again — I’ve got to feed my family. So I got an immigration lawyer, established Canadian residency, and I’ve been working nonstop in Canada ever since. I know half-a-dozen guys who have done this.”
Dual residency has become a popular way for American filmmakers to find work with producers who get tax breaks when they hire Canadians. The veteran director says he has no qualms about his decision. “If it were Iran, I’d have a pang,...

The Toronto International Film Festival is in full swing now and already the star-studded festival has brought some of Hollywood's finest actors, actresses and directors to the streets of Hollywood North.
It's also attracted droves of fans looking to stalk spot celebs during their red carpet premieres or across the table inside the city's many restaurants. But not every Tiff-goer is in it for a selfie with a movie star or an autograph.
Some come simply because they really like movies -- films that them laugh, make them cry and ultimately, make them fans of the medium.
Moviefone and Huffington Post Canada editor Chris Jancelewicz caught up with some of these fans to find out which moments brought them to tears.

Vancouver – A fatal mix of heroin and alcohol killed Glee star Cory Monteith in a Vancouver hotel room overlooking Coal Harbour on July 14. But nearby on East Cordova Street, in the city’s grimy downtown eastside neighborhood, those aren’t the only drugs of choice. "Lysol, rubbing alcohol, shoe polish -- they’re cheaper than heroin and crack," says a front-line worker from the Carnegie Outreach Program, who, along with a colleague, navigates a modern-day Bedlam of junkies, pimps and crack-addicted prostitutes like triage nurses on a battlefield. This is the nasty and violent underbelly of Hollywood North --

We here at NextMovie are as Ya-curious as the next guy, and after paying a little visit to the Toronto, Ontario set of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" we're thinkin' that maybe Sony's gotten itself that much-fussed Next Big Thing on its hands after all.
Yep, we trekked right up to Hollywood North and took studious notes while chatting up author Cassandra Clare and the film's shockingly gorgeous cast members: Lily Collins (that ruby-tressed heroine du jour, Clary Fray), Jamie Campbell Bower (main hunk Jace Wayland), Robert Sheehan (Bff-with-a-crush Simon Lewis), Kevin Zegers (the adoptive brohan with a 'tude, Alec Lightwood) and Jemima West (whip-wielder, Isabelle Lightwood).
So, what did we learn from this trek into the Shadowhunting world? Gobs, and here's a rundown!

It can be found here every Thursday night, and be sure to follow the Girls on Film Twitter Feed for additional femme-con. I love Tiff (otherwise known as the Toronto International Film Festival). Sure, my feelings are partially impacted by the great Canadian host city. Though locals are used to Rachel McAdams biking by or David Cronenberg getting some beer, it’s a bit magical to watch the city transform into a Hollywood North with flashing cameras and celebrity passers-by who aren’t Canadian; to walk down the road and see eagerly anticipated titles first, not to mention beautiful foreign films that might never get distribution. Hollywood might be the center of most cinematic action, but every September the film world heads to Canada for one of its most prestigious events – the Toronto International Film Festival (aka Tiff). From September 6-16 Toronto will be overrun with movies and stars, everything from the newest names in international cinema to the iconic elite. Consider this your all-in-one guide to the festival and city that has risen from obscurity to become “Hollywood North.” The City Toronto (derived from the Mohawk phrase “tkaronto,” meaning “where there are trees standing in the water”) has an interesting history just begging for a film treatment—involving a cholera epidemic, escaped slaves, hippies, weird rich folks and, some say, ghosts....

Los Angeles is no longer the hotspot for filming an action blockbuster, with film-makers relocating to places such as Vancouver. So what can it do to win back the émigrés?
One thing that reinforced the feeling Hollywood was the centre of the universe was the fact that it used to appear on screen so much. Or at least Los Angeles did. I was reminded of this last week when one of the characters in the sci-fi film In Time tumbled from the Sixth Street bridge and into the shallow slop of the La river. The arches of the bridge, the epic concrete flood-channel, the endless sight lines, the bleary light: all of it was familiar. Point Break, Terminator 2, Chinatown, Them! all sprang to mind. Andrew Niccol's thriller was saying the same thing about its casually iconic backdrops as its unageing parade of cheekboned 25-year-olds were saying about their lives: we shouldn't die.

Still almost two years away from its release in June 2013, Superman's reboot Man of Steel continues to take shape one small piece at a time.
The newest piece is a casting call, spotted by fansite Superman Homepage, which lists Vancouver locations where extras are being sought to play loggers and fishermen.
But, more interestingly, the casting sheet includes a vague story description that perhaps gives us some early indication of the tone and themes of the movie.

It appears that Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene and the rest of the Cullen clan had to deal with a long and rainy day filming the big Breaking Dawn wedding scene April 6 in Squamish! Christine K. of On Location Tours Vancouver tweeted of the shoot, “Background performers worked 17 hrs on #BreakingDawn, Cullens & Denali’s all On Location. Back at it tomorrow. Sun peaked out but cold.” That is one Long day!
That’s not all either as she retweeted one extra who noted, “the film has police officers & a Swat team in the bushes around the set, to catch the paparazzi.” Looks like we won’t be seeing any pics of Rob or Kristen any time soon!
Christina then also posted new photos on her blog,...

The slate is being wiped clean in CW's latest episode of Supernatural. In "...And Then There Were None," there is more than just a family reunion going on before the season goes into repeats. If this implied whittling down of the numbers is any indication, the Winchester Brothers will soon be in over their heads.
Thankfully, after some time has passed, the Mother-of-All story arc returns. The girl who appeared at the end of "Like a Virgin," is identified as Eve and she has the power of creation. At will, she can create new monsters, and she starts her carnage by creating a worm like creature that controls the victim by, presumably, attaching itself to the brain.
Fortunately, there's no rocket science involved in Supernatural. Fans familiar with the Vancouver, BC's television production scene aka Hollywood North will most likely know that it is the home to many science fiction based shows.

“Breaking Dawn’ is set to start filming in Vancouver next week and Bella Swan’s house is all decorated — for the Christmas season!
It looks like we will definitely be seeing Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner soon in Vancouver as the Swan house is all decorated for Christmas — meaning Breaking Dawn will be filming the scene were Bella and Jacob take her daughter Renesmee to see Bella’s father Charlie for Christmas! Hollywood North just got these amazing photos of the house decorated in lights, garland and bows! So exciting!
The cast is expected to arrive next week in Vancouver and will only be filming smaller scenes involving just a handful of characters, as opposed to the elaborate battles filled with extras, Volturi and other vampires they shot in Baton Rouge.
Take a look at the gallery above and get excited for more Vancouver photos to start pouring in!

The Vancouver Sun has a short little article talking about pre-production work for the Breaking Dawn sets in Vancouver. It sounds like not only is Bella’s house ready, but locations like Jacob’s house are almost ready as well and they’re just about ready for filming to start! Read more below:
Pre-production has already begun in Hollywood North, according to an insider, and the cast — including Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart — will be arriving in a couple of weeks.
A number of exterior film sets are already being set up around Metro Vancouver, including Bella’s house, which has been built in Kerry Park in Surrey. Filming will also take place at Jacob’s red homestead in Port Coquitlam.

FilmEmerge is building a celluloid bridge between Hollywood and the Motor City in an attempt to usher in a Golden Age of Detroit Cinema--and boost the economy in the process.
Quick: What do Detroit and Los Angeles have in common? Give up? Homelessness and Hollywood. The first issue might be easier to wrap your head around. Along with New York, Detroit and L.A. account for about 20% of the total homeless population in the U.S. according to data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (Hud). But native son Jonathan Rayos believes the Motor City’s got plenty of star power, too. And as CEO of Michigan’s FilmEmerge, he’s building a celluloid bridge to Hollywood with hopes of revving up the flagging local economy--and helping the homeless in the process.

Get ready Twi-hards, it looks like you may be able to see Rob and Kristen in Hollywood north in just over a month!
Breaking Dawn has been filming in Baton Rogue since November, and it looks like the cast better enjoy the warm weather while they can as they are heading back north to Vancouver come February! The Directors Guild of Canada reports that the film will begin shooting up north Feb. 21 and wrap Apr. 13. That’s almost two full months of possible Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart sightings!
New photos show the construction of Bella’s home meaning that it is likely they may be filming the opening of Breaking Dawn, before Bella is married and moves into the Cullen home. However, since the production will be there for two months, it seems like they must be filming some scenes at the Cullen house as well since most of the action takes place there.

2010 was a bittersweet year in the world of Canadian cinema and Canuck movie stars. We gained a world-class cinema shrine in the form of the Tiff Lightbox in Toronto, but we lost our favourite funnyman, Leslie Nielsen.
Canadian cinema's roller-coaster year could perhaps best be personified by Canadian superhunk Ryan Reynolds, who had quite the 2010. He was named People's Sexiest Man Alive, only to have his marriage to Scarlett Johansson fall apart almost immediately afterwards. Poor, heartbroken 'Green Lantern' (not to be confused with 'The Green Hornet,' played by fellow Canadian Seth Rogen). But we can't feel too sorry for him -- his newly acquired Sexiest Man credentials will no doubt help him in the romance department.
As the year draws to a close, it's that time again. Yes. Recap time. Without further ado, here's a rundown of the most notable highs...

The 22-year-old actress has been blowing up ever since her appearance on HBO’s “Lingerie,” and landed a feature in Maxim magazine in which she was nicknamed ‘the Megan Fox of Hollywood North.’
Later this year, Veronika will be starring in “Jane Doe” as a prostitute with a heroin addiction, as well as Showtime’s television series “Body Language.”
London owes her Latina hotness to being born in Mexico City, after which she was raised in Toronto, Canada where she currently calls home.

Happy Birthday from Hollywood North Report to our good friend, Hnr Senior Editor Michael Stevens. The Toronto-born actor, writer, producer, working out of Vancouver and Toronto, has posted close to 5,000 articles for HollywoodNorthReport.com since 2004, covering the Vancouver, Toronto and international film scenes, with 'complete enchilada' back-stories, images and videos. "I am not a 'paparazzi' or gossip columnist", said Stevens. "I love making movies and with Hnr's Canadian/Us reach, have a great opportunity to help other film-makers, including independents and studios, to get the word 'out there', with coverage for their film projects, in development, shooting, or in the can." Hnr also knows Michael loves going to film festivals and industry parties, as well as receiving all those other 'perks' that come with the position. Happy Birthday M...

Yesterday afternoon, CinemaSpy received an email from a tipster claiming to be well-connected within the Paramount hierarchy, and alleging that they had info about the casting of the lead for The First Avenger: Captain America.
Now, typically when we get this sort of stuff (not that we get it a lot, mind you) and the info is as big a story as this one, our Bs meters start to sound off. We're not trying to engage in false self-deprecation here — we have some great sources, but most of them are in Hollywood North, not Hollywood Central Casting — but our first thought is, "Why are you telling anyone this?" Our second thought is, "Why are you telling us this?"
Frankly, we sat on this info for a while, trying to decide whether or not to write it up, and knowing full well that it would be near impossible to verify independently.

Toronto -- As Canada's no-drama labor talks continue to forge showbiz peace, local producers have shaken hands on a new two-year contract with the Writers Guild of Canada.
Wgc members secured a 2% annual increase on minimum script fees as part of a new Independent Production Agreement with the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (Cftpa), representing indie producers, and their French-language counterpart, the Quebec Film and TV Producers Association.
The Canadian writers' current deal is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2009.
The new collective agreement, once ratified, will run to Dec. 31, 2011.
The local producers blessed the new deal on Oct. 23, and the Wgc rank and file will shortly cast their own ratification votes.
Wgc president Rebecca Schechter said the latest Ipa talks with producers were tailored for hard times as "all parties set aside larger issues in the interests of a unified creative community."

DC Comics' major feature film The Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds, was set to begin filming in Australia in about two weeks. However, the production has been hit by the strengthening Australian dollar, Inside Film reports. Production Weekly picked up the same story on their Twitter page.
Inside Film claims that the Australian shoot is understood to be under threat after the rising Australian dollar has "blown out production costs."
The report says Warner Bros is negotiating with the New South Wales State Government to receive a higher level of concessions in an effort to claw back between Usd$15M and $25M in value eroded by the currency gains.
Green Lantern was expected to be eligible for the Australian federal government's 15 percent location rebate on top of incentives from the New South Wales government. The value of the Aussie dollar is said to have risen by 16 percent since the original shooting date of mid-April,...

Let me just pause for a moment to remind readers that Predators is being directed by a dude named Nimrod. Pause. Okay, now that that.s out of the way, let.s talk about how awesome it is that the Predator franchise has finally been put in the hands of a couple of decently talented individuals. There.s Robert Rodriguez (on board as producer), of course, who seems to know exactly how to make an effective horror film. Then there.s Nimrod Antal, who directed Vacancy, a slightly cliché and illogical yet surprisingly competent thriller/horror film starring Luke Wilson. Now Predators has an actual release. Fox has decided to put the new flick right in the heart of next summer. According to Hollywood North Report, Fox will release the movie on July 7, 2010. Written by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the movie will follow a group of humans who have...

Toronto -- Toronto Mayor David Miller is touring studio lots in Los Angeles this week with a promise: Hollywood producers will be charged just 78 cents for every Canadian dollar spent on city services.
That's only one of many sweeteners on offer as Miller attempts to woo the major studios back to Toronto after recent years in which they've steered production to New York State, Michigan and elsewhere south of the border.
Another carrot is an 80-cent Canadian dollar, compared with the American greenback, which has Toronto back on the radar of studio bean counters.
"We lost our cost competitiveness. We now have that back, and we're a full service provider," Miller said Tuesday from Los Angeles as his sales mission got under way. "Now's the time to come back to Toronto."
