The ambitious Begoña Montes is locked in a toxic marriage to a magnate in the thrilling telenovela period drama “Dreams of Freedom” (“Sueños de Libertad”), produced for Antena 3 by Banijay’s Diagonal TV alongside Atresmedia – who produced groundbreaking shows “Money Heist” and “Velvet.”
“Our relationship with Diagonal is, and will continue to be, very good. We worked with them hand-in-hand on many productions, including ‘Amar es para siempre’, the predecessor of ‘Dreams of Freedom,’” Atresmedia fiction director, Montse García, told Variety.
The biggest fiction premiere on free-to-air Spanish television in the past two years, racking up a 14.1% market share and 2.0 million viewers on its linear Feb. 25 bow, the daily series opens with a tense chase through lush forests.

One of the most eagerly awaited guests of Milan Fashion Week was Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, chosen by Italian shoe and clothing brand Geox as ambassador for its fall-winter 2023 campaign. During the press presentation, the Spanish actress also presented a special collection of garments and accessories ($190-$495), some 20 pieces including footwear and outerwear, designed by herself in collaboration with Mónica, her younger sister, a dancer and actress herself, also known to the general public for her role in the hit Spanish TV series Un Paso Adelante.
“A testimonial with a strong and credible image like Penélope Cruz adds value to our communication. Penélope expresses professionalism, beauty, grace and character, the traits of a modern and contemporary lifestyle that we want to convey,” said Livio Libralesso, ceo of Geox.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 18
“I want to save that kid.”
There’s always been a fascinating symmetry between Izuku Midoriya and Tomura Shigaraki, but the past two seasons of My Hero Academia have really embraced the complicated, symbiotic relationship between this apex hero and villain. There’s a rejuvenated energy after the near-fatal feud between Midoriya and Shigaraki. However, the holding pattern that both sides of the war have found themselves in trigger major revelations that hit just as hard as their impassioned punches in battle.
“Izuku Midoriya and Tomura Shigaraki” is the perfect time to look inward since Midoriya is literally bed-ridden and confined to his own thoughts. Only, as he’s learned before, the voices in his head no longer belong to just him. These existential tete-a-tetes have previously been selective with the past One For All bearers who break through to Deku.

“This is torture, in the form of baseball.”
There have previously been six Original Video Animations (Ova) bonus installments over the course of My Hero Academia’s previous five seasons. Each has been used in creative ways, whether it’s superfluous Quirk showcases, valuable training exercises, or compelling backstories and origins for popular supporting characters. There’s even been a gratuitous zombie installment that feels like Halloween-themed Dlc for the series. All of this is to say that My Hero Academia has had fun with its OVAs, but they’ve always been opportunities for fun experiments rather than epic storytelling.

As other European TV giants such as the Rtl Group, Spain’s Atresmedia, owner of the Ott service Atresplayer Premium, is finding the sweet spot between auteur and broad audience shows.
Launched two years ago, Atresplayer Premium boasts fast growth in terms of subscriptions – reaching 400,000 users in Spain alone – and content production volume, readying some 20 new TV projects for this year.
Promoting original voices, the platform is winning international visibility. Iconic original series “Veneno,” created by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, “Los Javis,” successfully launched on HBO Max in the U.S. and Latin America, with a strong impact on the international media, which contributed to strengthening the Atresplayer brand.
Now, “Cardo,” from creators and writers Claudia Costafreda and Ana Rujas, executive produced by Los Javis after becoming one of the hottest indie series of last year for TV critics and audiences, is close to an important international distribution deal.

In a bid to tap into the intense demand for premium Spanish-language content, veteran Spanish entertainment executive Pepe Huertas has launched TV production company, Tres Vacas. He’s joined by seasoned showrunners Pilar Nadal and Felipe Mellizo, creators of such top selling dramatic series as “Águila Roja” (“Red Eagle”) and “Un Paso Adelante” (“One Step Forward”).
The company will focus on creating scripted content for the global audience, drawing on their combined talents, expertise and decades of experience.
“Our aim is to conceive relatable stories capable of engaging with the audience from the first minute, based on in-depth character development that allows us to construct long and strong narrative arcs,” said Huertas, founding partner and managing director of Tres Vacas.

Halloween on a Sunday made a slow box office all but inevitable. Studios avoided programming top new films and created the self-fulling prophecy of a $66 million total, by far the lowest in the strongest month this year.
It represented 57 percent of the closest weekend in 2019, bringing the four-week comparative rolling average to 75 percent.
“Dune” (Warner Bros.) had a weaker than anticipated second weekend, with a 62 percent drop grossing $15.5 million. Halloween was expected to hurt but Denis Villeneuve’s film lacked the competition of a major opening.
Next weekend it will face the challenge of “Eternals.” Not only will they compete for attention in overlapping audiences, it will also grab nearly all premium presentation screens that accounted for more than 25 percent of the “Dune” total. Its domestic take so far is $69.4 million, worldwide $292 million. That’s respectable, but not yet at a level where this is assured of a profit.

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 24
“I wonder if this itch would have stopped…”
Hey, remember when this was a show about plucky heroes?
Picking up on the powerful revelations and themes that the previous episode “Tenko Shimura: Origin” establishes, “Tomura Shigaraki: Origin” continues that chilling story in order to tell the grander narrative of the Symbol of Fear’s birth. This episode is a heartbreaking look into Shigaraki’s first steps as a villain that’s contrasted with his current destructive war against the Meta Liberation Army. In the previous episode, Re-Destro teases that Shigaraki was experiencing an awakening and “Tomura Shigaraki: Origin” brings it to fruition.
My Hero Academia’s previous “Tenko Shimura: Origin” told one of the series’ darkest stories that already casts the series’ major villain in a new light. However, “Tomura Shigaraki: Origin” hits equal levels of nihilism as...

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 18
“The sole thing a person gets to choose impartially is how his life ends.”
The concepts of fate, justice, and agency are always crucial tenets in My Hero Academia, yet these principles are placed under intense scrutiny in “The Unforgiven” when a face from Endeavor’s past returns and threatens to destroy his heroic advancements. Whenever it seems like Endeavor’s redemption arc reaches a satisfying and cathartic conclusion there are suddenly more skeletons from his closet that tumble out that he needs to manage. This is worthwhile development for the tortured character and it’s enough to finally turn those that are ambivalent towards Endeavor into fans. This has been the subtext to the entire season, but it’s the driving force behind the events in “The Unforgiven,” which is of course a title that refers to Endeavor and his cavalier past.

The truth remains that whatever one talks about regarding the anime industry this year, the success of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie” overshadows everything in the category. However, the year was once more quite good for the industry, at least content-wise, with a number of titles that are bound to make an impact in the future coming to the fore. A number of new trends also appeared, with two titles that focus on the humanization of animals, a number of ones that presented a distinctly European setting, and a number of series that were original, not based on manga that is. Lastly, Masaaki Yuasa proved, once more, that he is on the very top of anime directors.

The fourth season of the widely popular shonen anime continues the story directly where the previous left off, particularly regarding the villains and the meeting of Overhaul with the League of Villains. The arc offered by the former, who happens to be the heir of a large yakuza group, adds some very interesting elements to the narrative, through a clash that eventually becomes a thin and reluctant alliance, Overhaul’s relationship with his daughter, “Eri”, and the new shattering technology he introduces as a weapon against the heroes. The largest part of season 4 explores the aforementioned elements, with Izuku’s apprenticeship to Nighteye actually having a secondary role. The fact that Overhaul emerges as a captivating villain both as a character and regarding his powers and his group of super villains, benefits the title immensely, and is the one that actually carries it with success until the spectacular ending (?) of his arc.

Indefatigable art film activist José María Riba, a former head of Cannes Critics’ Week, driving force behind San Sebastian’s Films in Progress and co-founder of Espagnolas en Paris, died on May 2 from cancer, exacerbated by the effects of Covid-19. He was 68.

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 23
“A bright future, huh?”
In the past My Hero Academia has marked big events at the end of seasons with unexpected appearances from villains who crash the party. That was initially Gentle Criminal’s plan with U.A. High’s School Festival and even though that would have turned into a very interesting series of events, it’s nice to see the school truly get to kick back and celebrate for once without any distractions. This could have been a much more stressful and chaotic installment, but the choice to make “Let It Flow! School Festival!” a much more serene and pleasurable endeavor is a strategy that works well for what’s been an atypically dark year for the series.
Before the School Festival can begin there’s still some fallout from Midoriya’s battle against Gentle Criminal that needs to get addressed.

The weekend box office brought both good and bad news. Universal’s “The Invisible Man” exceeded expectations with a $29 million opening, but the overall box-office total fell under $100 million, a rarity between Super Bowl Sunday and Labor Day.
And strangely this weekend, both “My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising” (Funimation) and “Impractical Jokers: The Movie” (truTV) showed up in the Top Ten.
Meanwhile exhibitors are facing rising concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and its possible impact on public activities like moviegoing ahead. The case for some impact comes from recent declines after a strong start to 2020 that left the totals up 6% after two months. That’s down sharply from initial weeks, and comes with the bonus of the leap year Saturday that accounts for 40% of the higher number. So the bloom is off the rose.
However, results for the first two months are usually not a good guide for a full year’s prospects.

My Hero Academia has only been around for a few years, but it’s already gained mass acclaim and become one of the most popular anime series in years. The series consistently pushes its characters to challenging new places, but it can be difficult for supplemental feature films to capture the same level of importance and feel like they’re not stuck inside of some non-canonical bubble.
My Hero Academia’s first film, Two Heroes, was considered a success by fans, but the series is now in a more complex place where its endgame is increasingly on its mind. Thankfully, My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising isn’t just an improvement over Two Heroes, but it...

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 17
“Kids these days are crazy strong…”
Kids are growing up fast.
It’s a little mind boggling to see infants in strollers swiping their chubby digits across iPads, but there’s no denying that the current generation are born with certain advancements and technological innovations already in place. They get to spend their entire lives with these things rather than building these skills later in their maturity. In practically every department, it feels like kids are advancing and becoming simultaneously more comfortable and desensitized to the world around them.

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 14
“Who’s going to be the next leader again?”
The big problem with when a series, especially a shounen anime, concludes a major arc is that the following episode tends to just be the aftermath of it all. It’s the paperwork and comedown from all of the excitement. In many ways, this kind of episode is a necessary beast. There are ways to still make these episodes rewarding and still push the story forward. “End of the Beginning, Beginning of the End” from My Hero Academia’s third season is a strong example, but “Bright Future” faces another tough task because it follows “100% Infinite,” which very well might be the series best episode.

Now Spanish audiences will get their own version of the Girls with Las Chicas de Oro, produced by Disney Media Networks and Latin World Entertainment.
This certainly isn't the first time the classic TV show has been adapted for other countries, but this version is notable for its stars, who happen to be some of the biggest names in Spanish entertainment: Concha Velasco, Carmen Maura, Lola Herrera and Alicia Hermida.
Velasco has been on screen since 1954, primarily as a character actress. Her breakthrough role was St. Teresa of Avila in the series, Teresa de Jesus, but she is probably more recognizable as Carmen Orozco Argenta in the Spanish drama Herederos. She plays Doroti — and...
