Another advocate of personal liberalization
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The Footprint on the Beach.
This movie is similar to Hai Tan (the Beach) made two years earlier and like Han Tan, it is an advocate of personal liberalization, but it is more matured than earlier attempts such as Han Tan.
Audience probably would not be touched if they were watching this movie today in China, which is a good thing because reform in China had allowed certain degrees of personal liberalization and what advocated in the movie has become commonality in daily life.
