On an exposed English waterfront, plates and metal objects sit in fine colour and in good repair. However scratches and discolorations spread across them rapidly and in fast succession.
I really am at a loss to describe this film to you. Even the plot summary is probably not what the actual creator would say if you asked him - but it's the best I can do having seen it. The short features a variety of metallic plates that suddenly all get scratched and have animated colours running across them. Why? I'm not sure. The point? I have absolutely no clue to be honest.
I watched it twice looking for something that I could draw from, but both times was at a loss. The animation looks very jumpy but I'm sure it was very hard to do and was the product of hard work from Collis. However this is not enough for me to watch this short - maybe for fellow art students to hum and ah over but not for me to spend time on.
Overall I was left cold by this film, all I took from it was an impression of an art student who was showing off what he could do (which wasn't much to be fair) and he totally forgot that short films still need to find an audience. Something as pointless and meaningless as this is not going to find many people who'll be coming back to see more of Collis' work - I know I won't be.
