President Donald Trump on Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the deadly mass shooting at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, vowing in a tweet that America will “Never Forget” the 49 victims who lost their lives in the tragedy.
But for many of his critics, his sentiments came a year too late.
On the day of the shooting on June 12, 2016, before most of the victims were even identified, Trump, then a candidate, sent out a tweet congratulating himself on “being right on radical Islamic terrorism.”
“Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism,” he wrote at the time.

One of Disney’s greatest treasures has been with us for 22 years. It was on June 24, 1994 that The Lion King opened in theaters across the country. The tale of a Simba stepping into the light and into his father’s footsteps was an instant hit with both audiences and critics, and it earned four Oscar nominations for its breathtaking music, winning two of those — one for Hans Zimmer’s score and one for Elton John and Tim Rice-penned song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” The Lion King has remained one of Disney’s most celebrated and beloved films, and that was clear when its 3D re-release hit theaters in 2011, becoming a box office juggernaut as parents who were young upon the original release of the film towed their young ones to the theater for the treat of seeing the beauty of the animated savannah on the big screen again.

For Poma and many others, Pulse is described as "more than 'just another gay club.' " According to police, a shooter opened fire just after 2 a.m. local time on Sunday at Pulse, a popular gay club south of downtown Orlando. An officer working at the club initially responded to the shooter, "engaging in the gun battle with the suspect" before the suspect went back into the club, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a Sunday morning news conference.

It's a truth universally acknowledged that a person in want of a good project will adapt Pride and Prejudice-if not always to dazzling effect. The latest take, a two-part miniseries called Death Comes to Pemberley, premiered yesterday on PBS. And if there's anything P&P fans like almost as much as Austen's book, it's consuming and then critiquing the various interpretations of it. Which is why we're taking this opportunity to rank 13 different iterations of Pride & Prejudice, from the best (the 1995 miniseries starring Colin Firth is a nigh-untouchable high point) to the significantly less great. 1. …well, actually, there are a bunch of winners.
Looking at out server logs, we see that thousands of people have looked at the hundreds of nominated comics– we’ve counted over eighty thousand outgoing clicks over the last month, which we hope have turned into hundreds of new readers for each strip. We’ve gotten reports of lots of people discovering new webcomics, and creators have been telling us of traffic spikes as people do archive runs.
Then there’s the big winner of the contest, the Hero Initiative. Thanks to you, you’ve raised almost $4000 dollars for the organization. To give you an idea of the voting, here are the not quite complete funds raised for each webcomic:
A Redtail’s Dream Total $243.25
Ava’s Demon Total $525.00
Badnik Total $26.00
Bird Boy Total $25.00
Bittersweet Candy Bowl Total $1,075.00
Boumeries Total $3.00
Commander Kitty Total $171.00

The Ann Arbor Film Festival, having survived their half-a-century blowout in 2012, is back with another rip-roarin’ 51st edition in 2013, which will run from March 19-24, screening a mind-boggling amount of experimental short films and a few features.
Highlights of the fest include:
Special presentations by this year’s jurors, including Marcin Gizycki round-up of Polish animation from the 1950s to the present; Laida Lertxundi’s selection of some of her films as well as her biggest influences; and Kevin Jerome Everson’s mini-retrospective of his own films.
There’s also special tributes to Pat O’Neill, including a retrospective of his short films from the ’70s to the present as well as a screening of his 1989 35mm experimental epic Water and Power; Suzan Pitt, with selections of short films from her career; and a screening of Ken Burns’ latest doc The Central Park Five, co-directed with his daughter Sarah Burns and son-in-law David McMahon,...

Here we go again… it’s Round 4 of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament!
Now… it starts to get brutal.
We’ve gone from over 300 webcomics down to the Sweet 16. We’ve raised over $750 for the Hero Initiative in this round alone, so far you’ve bought over $1500 in votes. Voting for this round lasts until 9Pm Edt on Wednesday, March 20, so get your votes in.
We’re now getting to the point where money is beginning to be a big influence in contests, with an additional 40% of votes purchased. It made the difference in a number of contests, making winners out of Grrl Power, Commander Kitty, Unsounded, Weregeek, and Bittersweet Candy Bowl.
But that was the last round– what are they going to do this time around? It’s all in your hands now!
Again, we’re letting you support your favorite strips by paying for additional votes, with your money going to charity.

Update: Round 3 of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament has ended! We’re waiting for the final vote totals to come in from the Hero Initiative, and we’ll start up the Sweet 16 Round 4 on Monday, March 18! We started with over 300 webcomics, and we’re down to 32, while we’ve exposed thousands of people to new webcomics and raised over $750 for the Hero Initiative. Voting for this round lasts until 9Pm Edt on Saturday, March 16, so get your votes in. And now you can log in using Twitter to vote! We’ve had a few upsets this round– Dresden Codak was knocked out by Commander Kitty, but Doctor Cat couldn’t compete with Dr. McNinja. Update: Round 2 is closed. Go vote in Round 3! Round 2 of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament starts now! Voting lasts until 9Pm Edt on Wednesday, March 13! Congratulations to everyone who made it through Round 1! We’re down to 64 webcomics, and we’ve raised almost $650 for the Hero Initiative. We’ve heard your concerns about using Opinion Stage to tally our votes; specifically about needing a Facebook ID to vote. Although you can still purchase as many votes as you like, we understand that some of you don’t have Facebook IDs or don’t want them. We’re working on adding other ways to log in, like Twitter IDs, while still keeping the spammers and script kiddies at bay, and if we come up with more useful solutions we’ll add them in subsequent rounds. Here are the updated brackets for the Bradbury, Kubert, Sendak, and Washington divisions. Go and vote!

Thanks to the thousands of people who voted in the seeding process, as well as all of you who added your favorite webcomics to the list. We’re adding all of the webcomics you suggested to our directory.
But now, the challenges start!
First, some housekeeping details: Both Tom Siddell of Gunnerkrigg Court and Tarol Hunt from Goblins have asked that their strips not be included in this year’s contest. As such, we honor their wishes and raise their retired jerseys into the rafters.
Second, we’ve had $458.40 in bought votes, or an additional 4584 votes. Of particular note was a write in vote for Leftover Soup, donating $10 to the cause, although it wasn’t enough to get it into the final 128. Again,...

Jodie Prenger and Lee Nelson have made it to the final of Let's Dance for Comic Relief.
Prenger was the first to make it through, having topped the public vote with a routine to the 1986 Cameo hit 'Word Up', in which the actress dressed as the funk group's frontman Larry Blackmon.
Judges Arlene Phillips, Greg James and Lee Mack then had to choose between Vanessa Feltz, who danced to Cher's 'If I Could Turn Back Time' in leotard and fishnet tights, and Nelson, who was joined by Britain's Got Talent stars Twist & Pulse for a hip-hop spin on Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake'. The trio eventually decided to save Nelson.
Newsreaders Ore Oduba and Sonali Shah and ventriloquist Nina Conti received the fewest public votes and were automatically eliminated.
Oduba and Shah performed to the Outkast track 'Hey Ya', while Conti teamed up with her puppet Monk for a gorilla-themed routine...

Beyoncé Knowles had the company of her mom, Tina Knowles, as she touched down in New Orleans last Thursday. She's spending time in Nola to rehearse for her Super Bowl halftime performance during the matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Although it was rumored that her fellow Destiny's Child members, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, would be joining her on stage at halftime, Michelle recently confirmed those reports were "not true." This Thursday, Beyoncé will hold a press conference to talk about the show, which she's been sharing sneak peeks of by posting rehearsal photos on her Instagram account. Aside from her big Super Bowl debut, Beyoncé has a lot more to be excited about in the coming month. Beyoncé announced the launch of her new fragrance, Pulse NYC, and she shared a behind-the-scenes video from the campaign shoot. She's also starring in her upcoming HBO documentary,...

She’s a merchandising mastermind, and Beyoncé Knowles just came out with a brand new perfume complete with an accompanying ad campaign and behind-the-scenes video.
The “Crazy in Love” songstress’ latest scent is called Pulse NYC and it marks the fifth fragrance to her credit.
Of the juice’s vibe, Beyonce explained, "I thought that now that I am a New Yorker and I've learned about how I can accomplish anything in this city, I felt it was an appropriate energy for the new fragrance.”
Additionally, Knowles is gearing up for her massive halftime show at the Super Bowl this Sunday (February 3rd).

What lip-sync scandal? Beyoncé is literally on top of the world! Moving past the brouhaha surrounding her inauguration performance while gearing up for her upcoming Super Bowl appearance, Beyoncé isn't slowing down one bit as she launches her new fragrance, Pulse NYC. In the snazzy ad campaign for the perfume, which will mark her fifth fragrance, Queen Bey towers high above New York City and looks stunning as she rocks a mirror-bedecked strapless mini that easily gives the Empire State Building a run for its ogle-worthiness. (In a savvy stroke of design beauty, the bottle for the fragrance itself resembles a skyscraper.) Beyoncé possibly possibly responds to lip-syncing controversy...

Everything’s better when you’re young. Imagination, wonderment and of course, a whole mess of gullibility fend off the apprehension, cynicism and general mistrust that come with getting older. Nothing is played out yet, your guard hasn’t gone up, and your parents are behind-the-scenes caretakers of a world that doesn’t mean much to you. Once that wall breaks down and your mind comes to you, it takes something really special to ignite that feeling that was always present as a child. Even at 23-years-old, there’s very little that gets me excited in the same way that I would when a new issue of Nintendo Power would arrive in the mail, or when I’d head to Zellers (I’m Canadian) with my father to pick up a new Nintendo 64 game.
Now, this isn’t some Nintendo propaganda from a “fanboy.” I’m too old and wise for all that.

Update: Round 2 voting is closed! Round 3 voting is open right now!
128 webcomics are down to 64, and the battles continue!
The last round of voting was much more than we anticipated, with almost each of the contests getting more votes than last year’s final round. Yes, it’s that time of year again, the time where bracketology reigns supreme and the cry around the nation is “Win or Go Home!” Last year’s Webcomics Mix March Madness was incredibly popular, and so we’re doing it all over again. The problem? There are so many good webcomics out there, and we’ve found more this time around (and we skipped a bunch last time).
So we’re opening it up to you. We’re giving you a list of over 150 webcomics, and we want your votes. The highest vote getters make it into the tournament, with the biggest getting top seeds. In addition, if you think there are some we’ve missed, nominate them in the comments below.
The voting ends Monday at 11:59 Pm, and brackets go up on Tuesday! Let’s get it on!
