Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Bones (a young man) tongue-kisses a stuffed rabbit to tease DJ (a young boy and the film's protagonist).

Bones and Zee (a young woman) nearly kiss before he stops and cracks a joke. They playfully wrestle each other. Both fall to the floor out of camera shot. He gets mad when she won't continue and calls her a prude. She kicks him out.

Violence & Gore

Chowder's basketball ends up in Nebbercracker's yard and both he and DJ are scared to retrieve it. DJ eventually gets up the courage and runs for it, but Nebbercracker comes out of the front porch shadows, runs at DJ, and then grabs him by the arm, yelling at him. He then picks him up, but seems to have a heart attack and then collapses to the ground on top of DJ (they end up face to face). The rescue squad then shows up and wheels Nebbercracker away, but the grass in his yard grabs one of the gurney's wheels and yanks it off, sucking it down into the ground.

As two officers slowly make their way around Nebbercracker's house, a tree branch grabs the gun from the rookie cop's hand and then snatches him up into the air where it swings him around before throwing him in the house, which is where the other cop ends up after being grabbed as well. A large claw-like tree trunk then picks up the cops' car (containing Jenny and the boys) and thrashes it about before sending it inside the house toward a huge hole in the floor (where the broken floorboards look like teeth in a gaping mouth). The kids manage to scramble out of the car just before it's "swallowed."

Chowder uses a bulldozer to attack the much larger monster house that's followed the kids and Nebbercracker to the edge of a huge construction pit. DJ and Jenny end up tumbling down inside the hole, with Chowder continuing to battle the house but being pushed back toward the edge of the pit. DJ then climbs up a very tall construction crane structure and then out onto the crane arm itself where he hopes to drop dynamite down into the house. At the same time, Chowder continues to battle the house, but ends up dangling above the pit into which he then falls and barely avoids falling glass panels from hitting him. The house then falls into the pit and is seemingly destroyed, but then comes back to life. The monster house then lumbers after Chowder who's now on foot and it picks him up by his "cape," but Chowder falls back to the ground. Meanwhile, DJ falls from the crane arm down to the line hanging from it and swings around on that, scooping up Chowder while dropping dynamite down into the house's chimney (and the house then explodes).

Profanity

Eight uses of Oh, my God. Two uses of crap.

A young man (perhaps underage) drinks beer from a bottle. He gets drunk.

Chowder (a young boy) asks for a beer to pretend he's cool in front of a girl.

Jenny (a young girl) uses the word stash innocently; Chowder repeats it with innuendo, evidently thinking of it as a drug term.

Chowder makes two references to his having stolen drugs. But he means this innocently--he had stolen cough medicine from his dad's store for the excusable purpose of the putting the evil house to sleep.

*** Chowder (a young boy) accidentally sends his basketball rolling into a scary old neighbor's yard. Both Chowder and DJ (another young boy and the film's protagonist) are too scared to retrieve it. But DJ works up his nerve and runs into the yard. Nebbercracker, the scary old neighbor, runs out of the shadows, grabs DJ by the arm and screams at him. Mid-scream, Nebbercracker has a heart attack and collapses on top of DJ. The rescue squad shows up and wheels Nebbercracker away. The grass in the dead man's yard grabs one of the gurney's wheels and yanks it off, sucking it down into the ground. (Note that Nebbercracker is assumed to be dead until he shows up again in the last third of the film.)

*** As DJ sleeps, a shadow in his room takes the shape of Nebbercracker's house on his bedroom floor, complete with glowing windows that look like eyes. It changes into a claw that looks ready to grab him; but the phone rings and DJ wakes up from his nightmare. He answers the phone and hears a creepy sound coming from it. He hangs up, the phone rings again and he hears the same creepy sound. He presses *69. The phone in Nebbercracker's house rings. But Nebbercracker is (supposedly) dead, and no one else could be in the house. As DJ looks out his window and listens to the phone ring in Nebbercracker's house, a figure stalks behind him and screams. It turns out to be Bones (a young man) in a monster mask, playing a joke on DJ.

*** Chowder playfully crawls across his lawn toward the house to show DJ there's nothing to worry about. But the house comes alive, with its windows looking like eyes; its front door like a mouth; its broken wooden slats like sharp teeth; and a long rug like a tongue that comes after Chowder. He and DJ barely manage to escape.

*** As Officers Landers and Lister slowly make their way around Nebbercracker's house, a tree branch grabs a gun from Lister's hand, then snatches him up into the air. It swings him around before finally throwing him into the house. It grabs Landers and does the same thing to him. A large claw-like tree trunk then picks up the cop car (containing the three children who are the main characters) and thrashes it about before hurling it inside the house and into a huge hole in the floor (where the broken floorboards look like teeth in a gaping mouth). The kids manage to scramble out of the car just before the house swallows it.

*** The kids use water guns to shoot a hanging, glowing bag of lights, which causes the house to react violently. A huge, gaping hole opens in the floor. The broken floorboards look like sharp teeth. Something body-shaped is spat out from it. A beam of sunlight then comes into the house and glides around as if searching for something. The kids try to hide from it.

*** DJ opens a cage in the basement and finds a large body-shaped object, covered in cement on the floor. He trips and falls onto it. It then cracks open to reveal a woman's skeleton beneath it. The kids panic and try to get out, but various springs come down from the ceiling and grab Chowder. Air ducts that are like monstrous worms come after Jenny (a young girl) and one of them sucks her in. DJ tries to race up the stairs, but the stairs come alive and try to get him. On the main floor, Chowder falls into a large hole. The long rug has DJ; the boys and Jenny end up being swallowed. Water fills the room until they're blasted out of the house and onto the lawn, where they're dazed but unharmed.

*** Chowder uses a bulldozer to attack the much larger monster house that has followed the kids and Nebbercracker to the edge of a construction pit. DJ and Jenny end up tumbling down inside the hole. Chowder continues to battle the house, but is pushed back toward the edge of the pit.

*** DJ climbs up a crane in the hopes of dropping dynamite down into the house. Chowder continues to battle the evil dwelling, but ends up dangling over the pit before falling in. He nearly gets sliced apart by the pieces of glass falling with him. The house then falls into the pit and is seemingly destroyed. But it comes back to life.

*** The monster house lumbers after Chowder who is now on foot. It picks him up by his superhero cape, but he falls back to the ground. Meanwhile, DJ falls from the crane down to the line hanging from it. He swings around, scoops up Chowder, and drops dynamite into the house's chimney. The house explodes.
