I saw this film at a fundraiser for co-director Randy Bell. A couple days before I had seen "Hotel Rwanda" for the first time; an excellent movie, to be sure, but this makes it look like what it is: a Hollywood movie. Orphans of Mathare is the real thing, baby, and a truly great film. It follows the children and caretakers at the Good Samaritan House in Kenya, a shelter and school for AIDS orphans. These people, from founder Auntie to teacher Helen to students Chalo and Boss (Boss is my favorite)through their daily trials and tribulations. Bravo to Bell and co-director Pancho Velez for making this film. IF you can snag a copy, see it.
