Once you’ve heard Bill Paxton scream, “Game over, man!” you can never unhear it. And that’s a good thing. He got to play big on camera throughout the ’80s, but hamming it up isn’t all he’s capable of as evidenced by a string of great dramatic roles in the ’90s including One False Move, A Simple Plan and Apollo 13. Years later he surprised people again with directorial debut, Frailty, which made our list of one of the best horror films of its decade. He followed that film up with The Greatest Game Ever Played, a movie that clearly means a lot to Paxton despite its failure to find a wide audience. From 2006 to 2011 he played Bill Henrickson on HBO’s Big Love. He received considerable acclaim for his performance, but he once again found himself having to prove himself capable of range beyond that character once the show came to an end...

What makes films about religion so interesting is the way some manage to tread a line between support and criticism, while some are vehemently anti-religion or pro-religion. When all is said and done, it’s up to the audience to decide whether or not the film (or the faith portrayed) is a respectful or perceptive study on faith and the dogmatic principles that may or may not surround it. Not every religious film is uplifting. In fact, there are plenty of non-religious films that do a better job of building viewers’ faith. But that’s another list for another time.

Bill Paxton made his directorial debut back in 2001 with the mostly-excellent chiller Frailty, and followed it in 2005 with equally solid golfing drama The Greatest Game Ever Played. Since then he's seemed content in front of the camera, but he's now scored his third outing calling the shots, adapting Joe R. Lansdale's novel The Bottoms. Paxton's Frailty collaborator Brent Hanley has once again provided the screenplay.Lansdale's book, first published in 2000, is set in small-town Texas during the Great Depression, and involves young Harry Crane stumbling across the trail of a killer. Racial tensions are stirred up when the eccentric Mose is lynched for the murders by a Klan mob. As the killings continue however, Harry's attention turns to the local horror legend of the forest-dwelling "Goat Man".“Joe Lansdale’s stories and characters are vivid, original and indelible," says Paxton. "Brent and I have been looking to team up again since Frailty,...

Bill Paxton is set to direct a new film based on a novel written by Joe Lansdale called The Bottoms. The story is set in East Texas and follows "an adolescent boy, his little sister, and their father who stumble across the body of a black woman who has been savagely mutilated and left to die in the bottom of the Sabine River. The townsfolk cover up the crime until the body of a white woman is found in similar circumstances and it falls to the family to unearth the truth."
The script for the film was written by Brent Hanley who also wrote the 2001 film Frailty, which Paxton also directed. The movie is scheduled to start shooting later this year. Paxton had this to say in a statement,

When much-loved actor Bill Paxton made his directorial debut in 2001 with the dark psychological thriller Frailty, the project was met with rave reviews. His 2005 follow-up The Greatest Game Ever Played made less of an impact, however, so the news that his next turn at the helm will reunite him with Frailty writer Brent Hanley makes The Bottoms an exciting prospect indeed.
Based on the book by Joe R. Lansdale, The Bottoms tells of a teenage boy who, along with his father and younger sister, discovers the body of a black woman – brutally murdered and left in the bottom of the Sabine River in East Texas. Local townspeople attempt to cover up the crime, until the body of a white woman is discovered in similar circumstances, and racial tensions begin to boil over.
The book won an Edgar Award in 2000 and is part of the impressive bibliography of author Lansdale, which...

Whenever film lovers are asked which actor turned director they’d like to see get back behind the camera for a second film the top choice is quite frequently Charles Laughton. Unfortunately, Mr. Laughton passed away over half a century ago and won’t be following up The Night of the Hunter anytime soon. By contrast, Eddie Murphy is still alive, but no one is asking for a follow-up to Harlem Nights. One other name that frequently shows up on these lists is Bill Paxton, the beloved character actor, occasional leading man, and only performer to have been killed by a Terminator, a Predator, an Alien, and a Liberal with a knife. To be fair, even he doesn’t fit the criteria above as he’s already directed a second movie with 2005′s golf-related period film, The Greatest Game Ever Played. That movie is easily forgotten though, in part because it stars Shia Labeouf, and...

What a shocking headline, right? When Bill Paxton briefly mentioned Predator 2 during our discussion at Comic-Con yesterday, I could see him cringe with a self-knowing smile about it. He didn’t discuss that 90s classic in detail, sadly, but Paxton clearly lit up when discussing his directorial work. It’s unfortunate Paxton has only made two films behind the camera. Frailty is a terrific family-oriented horror movie, while his Disney “golf picture,” The Greatest Game Ever Played, was overlooked by both critics and audiences. The box-office performance of The Greatest Game Ever Played is probably a reason why Paxton hasn’t directed a feature-length film in eight years, but he’s been keeping busy, both acting and developing projects. When Paxton isn’t working, taking pictures with fans, gladly receiving hugs, or hanging with his daughter — who I mistook as his publicist, surely her dream job — Paxton took a few minutes discuss Seven Holes for Air...

Popular Hollywood actor Bill Paxton (currently winning plaudits for his Emmy-nominated role in western miniseries Hatfields & McCoys) is back working in the type of genre cinema with which he initially made his name.
Having recently wrapped the Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington-headlining big-screen version of graphic novel 2 Guns, he’s currently in the middle of shooting yet another comic adaptation All You Need Is Kill, in which he co-stars as the sergeant of Tom Cruise’s alien-battling soldier.
But Paxton’s dalliance with the graphic novel world doesn’t end there. We caught up with him briefly during his trip to Saturday’s McM Comic Con to discuss the digital comic book which he helped develop and foster, pseudo-western action fantasy Seven Holes For Air.

The studio hope to begin shooting in China next summer, and have secured the talents of John McLaughlin (Black Swan) to pen the script.
The original series and lead role was reportedly originally conceived by Bruce Lee, but TV executives chose David Carradine over Lee for the lead role, which...

With Black Swan scribe John McLaughlin already on board to write, the big screen adaptation of David Carradine’s classic TV series Kung Fu could soon be one step closer to having its director. Bill Paxton’s reps confirmed to EW the reports that the Big Love actor is currently in negotiations to direct the project. Paxton’s involvement in the Legendary Pictures feature would mark his third foray into directing. (He was at the helm of the deeply disturbing, underrated chiller Frailty, as well as the golf drama The Greatest Game Ever Played.) The movie will reportedly stay true to the series,...

Game Over, Grasshopper: Veteran actor Bill Paxton is in talks to direct Kung Fu, a big-screen adaptation of the 1970‘s TV show that featured David Carradine as a monk traveling through the Old West. Paxton has only directed two features -- Frailty, a thriller, and The Greatest Game Ever Played, a golf drama -- and Kung Fu sounds like a departure for him. (Deadline) A Potentially Magical Cast: The folks behind Burt Wonderstone, the magic-themed comedy starring Steve Carrell, are busy talking to Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi about roles as a love interest and former best friend, respectively. Jim Carrey and James Gandolfini are also “in talks." (The Hollywood Reporter) A Comedy That Dares Not Speak Its Name: Fresh from her breakout role in The Help...

With "Big Love" wrapped after five seasons, Bill Paxton has a whole lot of free time on his hands. In addition to his several upcoming acting gigs, the "Titanic" and "Twister" star is looking to get back into directing. He hasn't helmed a project since 2005's sports drama "The Greatest Game Ever Played," but now it is being reported that he is looking to adapt "Kung Fu," the TV series that made a star of David Carradine.
Deadline has the news that Paxton is in talks to direct an update on "Kung Fu" for Legendary Entertainment. The plan is to have the movie start shooting in China next summer if Paxton ends up coming on board.
The show follows a Shaolin monk wandering around the American West in search of his brother, but ends up getting involved in crazy adventures along the way. David Carradine was the original star of the franchise.

Being Asian, I think being a fan of kung-fu comes with the terrirtory. So imagine my surprise when I hear that Bill Paxton is directing an adaptation of the 1972 TV show Kung Fu. John McLaughlin (Black Swan) will pen the screenplay.
This will be Bill Paxton’s first project after completing Big Love on HBO. According to Deadline, the actor got the job after directing films such as Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played. Legendary Entertainment will help put the adaptation together in a possible joint venture with Legendary East. There is hopes to start filming in China in Summer 2012.
The original series tracked the adventures of a Shaolin monk as he wanders the American West. The monk wants peace but usually winds up using his spectacular martial arts skills to kick some serious tail, in between flashbacks of his early life in the monastery.

Even though the bulk of my Kung Fu knowledge comes from Jules in Pulp Fiction and Peter in Office Space, I still know this is big news. Bill Paxton, star of such films as Twister, Aliens and Titanic and the director Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played, is in talks to direct a feature film based on classic 1972 TV show which starred David Carradine. John McLaughlin (Black Swan) will pen the screenplay. More after the jump. Kung Fu is being developed by Legendary East [1], who is also producing Ed Zwick's The Great Wall. The company is a fairly new off-shoot of the popular Legendary Pictures, which produces such massive hits as The Dark Knight and The Hangover. They hope to have the project ready to film in China during Summer 2012. Deadline [2] first broke the news of Paxton's involvement and Variety [3] revealed the screenwriter. The show itself was about...

I'm sure any CBMer of a certain age, or even those wise enough to catch some re-runs, remember the Kung Fu Tv series fondly. It starred the late David Carradine as a Shaolin Monk possessed of great martial arts skills as he wanders the American wild west in search of his brother, adventure and enlightenment. It was pretty damn awesome. And now Legendary Entertainment are bringing us a big screen version with none other than Hudson himself at the helm.. Bill Paxton is in talks to direct Kung Fu, a screen adaptation of the classic 1972 TV series that starred David Carradine. Paxton, who’s coming off a run in the HBO series Big Love, gets the job after helming two solid films: Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played. John McLaughlin will write the script. After dedicating the last five years of his career to playing Bill Henrickson on the HBO series Big Love, it seems that Bill Paxton is itching to get back to the director's chair. Back in 2001, the actor he made his directorial debut with the thriller Frailty, and then followed that up with the golf drama The Greatest Game Ever Played. Now he is in the process of lining up his next project, and it's definitely not something I ever would have expected to see him attached to. Word on the street is that Paxton may be helming a big screen adaptation of the '70s TV series Kung Fu, a project that has been stuck in development hell for many years. Patience, young grasshopper... patience. The original TV series starred the late David Carradine as a Shaolin monk named Kwai Chang Caine who wandered through the American Old West in search of his half-brother.

Bill Paxton - a favorite of James Cameron, a tornado chaser, an Apollo astronaut, a Mormon wife-collector, and a friend of Joe Young. And also, it's sometimes forgotten, occasional director. The veteran character actor made his feature film directing debut a decade ago with the decent thriller "Frailty," and followed it up a few years later with the well-received Disney golf drama "The Greatest Game Ever Played," a sort of "Legend of Bagger Vance" without the questionable racial elements. With Paxton starring over the past few years in hit HBO drama "Big Love," his directorial ambitions have been on ice,…...

The Apollo 13 actor, who began his career behind the camera, is in talks to helm the movie version of the cult 1970s TV series
Bill Paxton, the star of Aliens, Near Dark and Apollo 13, is in talks to direct a big-screen outing for the seminal 1970s martial arts western series, Kung Fu, reports Deadline.
Paxton is best known as an actor, but has previously directed two films: 2005 sports drama The Greatest Game Ever Played and well-received 2001 horror Frailty. He gained his first experience behind the camera working with the legendary B-movie director Roger Corman as a set designer in the late 1970s, before embarking on an acting career.
A film version of Kung Fu has been mooted in Hollywood for at least five years: the original series, starring David Carradine, has gained a cult status over time and the death of its star in 2009 has only served to increase interest.

Classic 70s TV series Kung-Fu could be coming back, but this time to the big screen as Deadline report that Legendary Entertainment are putting together a movie version of the series (which wouldn’t be the first Fyi), under the possible direction of actor Bill Paxton. Paxton, who currently star in HBO’s Big Love and previously helmed Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played would direct from a script by John McLaughlin, with shooting set to partly take place in China.
No word on a cast for Kung-Fu as yet, but hopefully this time round we actually get a Chinese actor in the role of Kwai Chang Caine, the Shaolin monk who wanders the American West after leaving his ancestral home – a character originally made famous in the series and its sequel, Kung-Fu: The Legend Continues, by David Carradine.

It’s time for the East to meet the West. Deadline has reported Bill Paxton is in talks to direct the movie adaptation of the 1970s television show “Kung Fu.” The television series followed a Shaolin Monk (played by David Carradine) who fled to America. He ended using his martial arts skills to fight ruffians in the wild west. Paxton is known for his acting roles in several movies and television series. He was best known recently on HBO’s “Big Love.” However, he has a couple of directing credits including “The Greatest Game Ever Played,” and “Frailty.” John McLaughlin is hired to write the script adaptation. Tower Heist comes out on Friday, and now there’s this development. Ladies and gentlemen, The Rat is back.
Yes, some of us were foolish enough to think Brett Ratner was gone after helming Rush Hour 3 in 2007 and then disappearing for a career of producing. But you can’t keep a competent-yet-still-bad filmmaker down; with Tower Heist likely to rake in some real coin and The 39 Clues in his future, he might be back on the directing scene for good.
Appropriately, Deadline reports that Ratner will be helming Hunting Eichmann for Mandalay Pictures. The news comes via their report that Narnia scribe Ann Peacock has signed on to write the film, which is “a thriller based on the true account of Israeli agents who secretly entered pro-Nazi Argentina to capture Adolph Eichmann, known as the architect of the final solution.” (Spoiler alert: they got the son of a bitch.

Bill Paxton, he of the James Cameron movies and the guy most people mistaken for Bill Pullman and vice versa, is in talks to direct the big-screen adaptation of the TV show “Kung Fu” for Legendary Entertainment. Paxton, who is no stranger to feature film directing (he directed the surprisingly good “Frailty” in 2001 and the golfing movie “The Greatest Game Ever Played” in 2005), would helm the big screen version of the 1970s TV show from a script by John McLaughlin (“Black Swan”). Paxton is the third director attached to the movie. Max Makowski surfaced as a candidate back in 2007, and a few months before that, the Hughes Brothers were supposed to direct. Said to have originally been conceived by Bruce Lee before it was absconded by Warner Bros., “Kung Fu” the TV show ran for three seasons and starred David Carradine as a slow-moving, slow-talking Shaolin monk hiding out in...

After helming a couple decent films like Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played, two very different stories, now actor Bill Paxton is returning to the director's chair with a surprising project. Deadline has word that the actor, who has much more free time since completing his turn on the HBO's "Big Love" is now in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of the favorite 70's drama series Kung Fu which originally starred the late David Carradine. Legendary East, the Hong Kong arm of the same company behind Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, is behind the new project which plans to shoot in China next summer. Read on! The original series (at least the first season) followed Carradine as Caine, a stoic Shaolin monk forced to flee China after killing the royal family member who slew his Master. It's being reported that actor/director Bill Paxton is in talks to direct the big screen adaptation of the classic 1972 TV series Kung Fu with David Carradine. I've always enjoyed watching Paxton in the movies that he's been in. He recently just finished up his HBO series Big Love. Paxton is no stranger to directing either, he direct both Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played. Both of which were solidly good movies. I think Kung Fu would be a cool project for him to actually take on, and I hope he ends up getting the gig.
The film’s being put together under the Legendary Entertainment banner to shoot partly in China next summer. For those of you not familiar, the original series tracked the adventures of a Shaolin Monk as he wanders the American West. The Walt Disney Studios Analysis series is back for its final edition. Here we explore the types of films the banners under The Walt Disney Studios have been releasing over recent years, and my thoughts on these ”categories.” With that introduction out of the way, here we go.
Pixar Animation Studios productions
For sixteen years Disney has been distributing films from Pixar, the leader in quality entertainment for families. These movies have spanned the spectrum of storylines, from superheroes to robots and everything in between. Critical darlings (with Cars 2 proving to be the exception to the rule), these movies are global sensations. Toy Story 3 became the first animated film to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide. Pixar’s offerings are also extremely profitable outside the film format. Disney can leverage these properties in the merchandise and theme park arenas, as well as other mediums that provide exposure to these characters.

Let’s face it, if you’re Tom Arnold, then a “True Lies 2″ actually coming true is the best thing you can hope for. The comedian/actor hasn’t had what you would consider “choice roles” since the 1994 movie by James Cameron, and there are still plenty of fans clamoring for a sequel to the spy/comedy starring the former California Governor now that he’s given up politics and dived back headfirst into the Hollywood pool, cheating scandal notwithstanding. Speaking to a bunch of paparazzi outside a restaurant where he just had dinner with the Big Oak (via RumorFix / h/t Moviehole), Arnold once again confirms that “True Lies 2″ is happening. What’s more, Bill Paxton, who played a sleazy car dealer in the original, will be directing. Paxton, a former James Cameron acting regular, has previous directing experience. He directed 2001′s excellent thriller “Frailty”, and was behind the...
