Above: Bedrich Dlouhy’s 1970 poster for Rashomon (Akira Kurosawa, Japan, 1950).Flipping through the website of the incomparable Czech poster store Terry Posters the other day, I came across an artist whose name I hadn’t known before. I was aware of some of Bedřich Dlouhý’s posters: his split-screen design for Věra Chytilová’s Something Different was one of my favorites in Isabel Stevens’s recent piece on Chytilová’s posters in Sight & Sound, and I knew his designs for Rashomon, Red Desert, The Pink Panther and 8 1/2, but I had never put two and two together that they were by the same designer.Part of the reason I didn’t know more of his work is that most of the films Dlouhý worked on in the ten years that he was designing posters (from 1962 to 1971) were films from the Eastern Bloc that are little known here. Films from Hungary, Yugoslavia...

The last round of films playing at Fantastic Fest later this month was just revealed (check out the full line-up right here), and one of those films has just debuted the first trailer for The Town That Dreaded Sundown. The film seems to simultaneously be a remake of the original 1976 horror film and a sequel since it takes place 66 years after the events of the first film where a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana. There are clear references to the original film, but plenty of new terror to get a whole new generation interested. On a fun note, it's cool to see the revived Orion Pictures logo back again. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's The Town That Dreaded Sundown (via Blumhouse): Based on a terrifying true story, The Town That Dreaded Sundown picks up 66 years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana,...

Last week, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos was talking up the success of "Orange Is the New Black," noting that it and fellow binge-viewing favorite "House of Cards" have thrived because viewers no longer are willing to sit around and wait for the episodes of same show to be delivered at the same time every week. So how does he justify hiring Chelsea Handler to host what will become Netflix's first talk show?
To be sure, Thursday's announcement of the deal was fuzzy on details; neither Sarandos nor Handler has explained what form the new chat series will take, nor how often it will air. But a talk show, which thrives on topicality, seems to require a new installment daily (or nightly). Weekly hardly seems adequate (see John Oliver's new HBO series, which cheekily acknowledges this problem by calling itself "Last Week Tonight"). And yet, Netflix has...

And then there were two. After tens of thousands of votes and several rounds of heated competitions, we're finally at the final round of Save One Show 2014, our annual campaign to save one network series from cancelation. The two shows left standing? Beauty and the Beast and The Mentalist! (Moment of silence for Dracula and Revolution.) The CW romance drama and the longrunning CBS procedural fended off 18 shows to make it to the final round. But there can only be one winner. The last round of voting closes Thursday, March 13, at 5 p.m. Pt, with the winner being announced bright and early Friday morning. You've come this far and now it's time to bring it...

The final week of quarter-final eliminations brought major twists and turns before heading into next week’s semi-finals. Did your favorites land a spot in the top 20?
America’s Got Talent has finally reached its final elimination before the semi-finals. The last round of cuts included some surprises — and some not-so surprises. Train also made a pit stop at Radio City Music Hall and performed their hit “Bruises” with Ashley Monroe and season-seven runner-up Tom Cotter returned to the America’s Got Talent stage.
‘America’s Got Talent’: Aug. 21 Results
The Virginia State University Gospel Chorale, musician Dave Fenley, singer Selena Mykenzie Gordon were the first group up on the chopping block. This elimination was really between Vsu and Dave after Selena’s rocky performance the night before. In a surprising twist, America went with Dave! Not that Dave isn’t fantastic, but Vsu’s performance was also great.
