Two of France’s fastest-rising young stars, Lyna Khoudri and Rio Vega, will lead the French voice cast of animated feature “In Waves,” an unconditional first love story, and tale of loss and memories adapting American illustrator Aj Dungo’s same-titled multi-prized graphic novel.
An anticipated banner prestige animation title from Paris-based Silex Films, “In Waves” lead producer, the feature also marks the first animated co-production of both Anonymous Content and Charades, behind sales of Jeremy Clapin’s “I Lost My Body” and Mamoru Hosoda’s “Mirai,” both Oscar nominated titles.
In Waves is directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, a former student of French animation schools Gobelins and La Poudrière who helmed episodes of the Silex-produced animated series “Brazen” and was Oscar-shortlisted for her short “My Home,” “In Waves” has just been announced as one of five titles at the Annecy Animation Showcase, part of Cannes’ Animation Day on May...

After multiple delays due to Covid-19 disruptions, the Sydney Film Festival was Thursday finally able to announce a program for this year’s in-person event. It will now take place Nov. 3- 14.
Originally slated for June, the festival was initially shifted to August. But as Sydney returned to strict lockdown from June due to a delta variant outbreak, dates were stalled again.
“We really wanted to have an in-cinema festival this year,” said festival director Nashen Moodley after going wholly online in 2020. “With Sydney finally coming out of lockdown next Monday it couldn’t be better timing. The enthusiasm for ticket sales has been phenomenal.” The 2021 festival also has a scaled down on demand event, available in Australia only.
Some restrictions will still remain in place, including vaccination proof, indoor masking and 75% capacity limits in cinemas. But with 233 films from 69 countries, Sff is offering an enticing line up.

Amazon-owned streaming service puts five more projects in development
Amazon’s IMDb TV will adapt Tegan and Sara’s best-selling memoir “High School” into a drama series that will be executive produced by Clea DuVall. Additionally, the streaming service is significantly expanding its output by putting five more scripted projects in development and greenlighting three unscripted series.
“High School,” which will be co-created by Tegan and Sara, is described as a coming-of-age story of first loves and first songs. Produced by Amazon Studios and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, “High School” is a story about finding your own identity — a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimics your own. Told through a backdrop of 90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

Young love can often be in a rush to bloom, but as Emetjan Memet explores in his short “Blessed Winter”, the younger generations are perhaps better off looking to the older generations for the direction in which they’re heading.
Merdan (Ehsan Imam) is a young man intent largely on spending his days hanging outside his girlfriend Ekide’s (Ezize Shuherat) house, waiting for the right moment to knock. But, wary of her parents, she is seemingly reluctant; a love letter having been recently found addressed to Ekide. But it is not from Merdan. Believing he knows who sent the letter, he tries to act as the aggressor, keeping any potential suitors away from his love. This is something that quickly backfires and leaves Merdan with several nosebleeds. These scrapes see him befriend Ekide’s alcoholic father (Tusunmemet Ablez). A bond that scares her; and her mother (Adile Kurban) is...

In February 2011, one day after dancehall and reggae icon Buju Banton won his first Grammy, he went to trial to face charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute. Despite a thin case and evidence that Buju had been entrapped, he wound up serving seven years in in an American federal prison. His release and return to Jamaica, in December 2018, was akin to a holiday for his fans. Buju was back.

Elisabeth Moss is about to make a killing: The Emmy winner will star as infamous Texas killer Candy Montgomery in an upcoming limited series, TVLine has learned.
The limited series, tentatively titled Candy, is a Ucp production (a division of Universal Studio Group) and is being shopped to premium cable and streaming platforms. Moss plays Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife in 1980 who “seemingly had it all — loving husband with a good job, a daughter and a son, a nice house in the brand new suburbs — so why did she kill her friend from church with an ax?” the official description asks.

Other than the actual fundraising, one of the enjoyable things about “at home” music events in this time of coronavirus is watching artists perform unvarnished.
This was largely true of Bet’s “Saving Ourselves” event (dubbed S.O.S.) on Wednesday (April 22). Although most of the videos were pre-recorded using backing tracks, the home-spun feel of the broadcast and warm-hearted sentiments made for an entertaining and poignant couple of hours that raised funds for communities of color — disproportionately affected by Covid-19.
Emceed by four different hosts — Anthony Anderson, Kelly Rowland, Terrence J and Regina Hall — all presenting from their homes, the absence of any stage direction or time restrictions that typically accompany formal televised events added a loose informality to the occasion.
The benefit kicked off with an uplifting gospel-infused song, “I Smile,” performed by the ageless Kirk Franklin and featuring Kelly Price, Fantasia, Tyrese and others.

I’ve got an intense trailer here for an upcoming backwoods murder mystery thriller called A Dark Place. I enjoy a good murder mystery film and this one actually looks like it could be pretty good.
When a young boy turns up dead in a sleepy Western Pennsylvania town, Donald, a local garbage truck driver, takes it upon himself to play detective. He embarks on an obsessive investigation to prove that the boy had been murdered, leading to unthinkable and harrowing consequences.
The movie stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Victor Frankenstein, Alice Through the Looking Glass), with a supporting cast that includes Bronagh Waugh, Denise Gough, J.D. Evermore, Griff Furst, and Sandra Ellis Lafferty.
A Dark Place was directed by Simon Fellows and it will be released on April 12th.

After two games, both sides were at risk of losing their unbeaten streak, as an inexperienced England took on a mountainous Wales at Twickenham. Let us know what you thought of the game either in the comments below or on Twitter @Ballintouch and remember to use our handy beginners A-z guide to rugby, here.
With Wales in the unique position of favourites for this match at Twickenham, all the talk was about the callowness of the starting England side and the size of the Welsh backline.
It was the gigantic George North who almost drew first blood, two scything runs cutting the England defence to pieces and taking the Welsh into the English 22. Unlike the Irish in the earlier game of the day, Wales were in no mood to start slowly.

Subject: Heather Graham, 41-year old American actress
Date of Assessment: June 8, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Nudity, beauty, sleep
Negative Buzzwords: Romcom, limited appeal and talent
The Case: People like to talk about the so-called "downward trajectory" that Heather Graham's career has supposedly taken. Still, she's worked steadily since her first movie role in 1988's License to Drive (the one where both Coreys stuffed her in a car trunk), which she followed up with an acclaimed turn in Drugstore Cowboy and an adorable character, Annie Blackburn, on the second season of "Twin Peaks." Then, she toiled away in relative obscurity for nearly five years until she stunned audiences (or at least myself) as Jon Favreau's dance partner in the last act of Swingers and appeared alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Two Girls and a Guy. Then, Heather became the very naked Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, which was a pretty overrated movie...

Then, Heather became the very naked Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, which was a pretty overrated movie...

2B Pictures, the banner of Blighty’s Future Film Group, is adapting Alan K. Baker’s novel Dyatlov Pass, based on the mysterious ski incident, for the big screen.
The film will be directed by Simon Fellows (Malice in Wonderland), following the true-life events that occurred on February 1959 in the Russia’s Urals, when nine experienced cross-country skiers mysteriously died.
Andy Briggs (Ghost Town) will adapt the script on Baker’s version of the event. The hiker’s deaths have already attracted much speculations being linked to paranormal activity or a military keeping secret.
The tent had been cut open from inside and counted footprints from eight or nine people in meter-deep snow. Though there was no sign of fight, two skiers had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, one was missing her tongue and clothing belonging to them contained high levels of radiation. Authorities said the group died as...

The movie trailer for the upcoming horror film from After Dark Originals called "The Task" has been released and we have it for you to view below. You can see it below the creepy international one-sheet poster and synopsis below below.
Not sure what I think about the flick so far, but I'm hoping it is better than the trailer suggests. Not a terrible concept, but one that feels a bit over done to me. I mean, didn't we kind of see this idea in one of the Halloween sequels? Maybe I'm just burnt out on all things "reality show".
The Task was written by Kenny Yakkel, directed by Simon Fellows (Malice in Wonderland, Blessed) and stars Texas Battle (Dixon), Alexandra Staden (Connie), Adam Raynor (Taylor). Enjoy.
The Task Synopsis
