Baywatch!

Warning: Spoilers
Goes off on all sorts of tangents this stupid show, here another doozy. Somehow I don't buy Trevor risking his life for these two.

Not son of beaches then (dvd) (vhs)

The Baywatch DVD collection is bizarre in France. It starts with the season 3 (4 episodes by disc) then with disc 6, we have 3 episodes of season 4 with 1 of season 1. That's why I can watch and review episodes from this first season.

For what i have seen, i can't really distinguish it from the next two ones: same Mitch and Gardner, same sun, same beaches, same rescue outside the sea than inside (lol), same feeling that those lifeguards are the only one to know swimming (lol), same magic "punch" that stops even the baddest villain (lol), in conclusion, same unbelievable and humanist stories.

But it's true that this season has also less impact: First, the opening song is deadly lethargic even thought the ending theme with the piano is cool. Next, the Baywatch team is a bit transparent: one is a mature adult and half time lawyer, another is a young introvert and the "babes" don't do a lot of things. Worst, the first incarnation of Hobbie hasn't the wit of Jeremy Jackson. On the other hand, the recurring wife Gina was a good character and the actress is a fine look alike of Jennifer.

My best episode pick is 1.7 "Rookie School " because it has a good action from the Pomeroys and it illustrates the strong asset of this show that along the Baywatch team, the production knew always find great cast for the non recurring characters.

Togas yeah! Snipers nay!

Accidentally becoming a lifeguard trainee is awesome. Intense mafia action. Da Byook hella macho. Eddie adopts a sexy derelict. Craig gotta flat tire. Gina needs peach and quiet to try to pump it up. Dudes in Speedos. What's not to like?

Trevor goes to school
paultapner28 February 2024
It's time to get some new rookies. A girl on the run ends up amongst the group. She and Eddie get closer. But then her past catches up with her.

Meantime Craig and Gina want a baby. So it's time for a romantic weekend.

And Trevor has to go through rookie school also. Where he develops a rivalry with the star student.

Strewth mate! This one actually hangs together well and isn't bad at all. It balances it's storylines. Trevor gets a fair bit to do and has a good storyline. Jill of course just stands in the background and says a few things, but it remembers to hint at attraction again.

Eddie and his lady are tolerable. The action does again seem to involve very shallow water, but that won't ever stop Mitch. The comedy plot is the Gina and Craig one but that actually works as it balances comedy and pathos pretty well.

All this plus some Newmie sightings. And a guest appearance from William Fichtner. 46 mins spent well enough all in all.
