Teyonah Parris has come out in support of her first Marvel Cinematic Universe outing, The Marvels, which has currently landed on Disney+. The film had a very tumultuous run at the box office, being Marvel’s first proper financial dud in theatres, grossing $199.7 million worldwide (according to The Numbers) against a budget of $270 million.
Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in a still from The Marvels
Parris has come out to say that the film, which is currently streaming, should at least be given a chance by fans. However, despite earning a significant amount at the box office (while not breaking even) the film was worse received than the lowest-grossing Dceu film, which failed to even make what the Brie Larson project made.

Mirage's characterization in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts strays from his original pompous elitist persona in G1. Mirage in Rise of the Beasts resembles Jazz more than his G1 self, with a different alternate mode and a jovial personality. The version of Mirage in Rise of the Beasts is the most prolific incarnation of the character and gives him a major glow-up.
Throughout the Transformers franchise, various characters have been given differing characterizations. In some cases, the name of an iconic Autobot or Decepticon might be reused for a completely different robot in disguise. Such is the case with Mirage, who seemed a lot more like another Autobot in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Erudite and somewhat smug, Mirage's Generation 1 characterization had him portrayed as a pompous elitist who wanted nothing to do with the war. That's not at all how he was in the Rise of the Beasts movie,...

Clever Easter Eggs in movies fuel fan theories and provoke further discussion about symbolism and major themes. In Fight Club, the constant presence of Starbucks cups critiques consumerism. The references to canceled Disney movies in Meet the Robinsons add a meta quality to the main character and serve as a commentary on abandoned fictional characters.
Many movies include barely noticeable Easter Eggs, some of which add a new layer to the story. Studios such as Disney like to include characters and images from other properties within a movie, which often have no bigger meaning than being a fun visual reference for the fans. However, some references like this will completely change the way the audience sees the movie.

Xolo Maridueña confirms his return as Blue Beetle in James Gunn's Dcu, expressing excitement for the character's future. The inclusion of Blue Beetle highlights the character's impact and the anticipation surrounding his next adventures in the new Dcu. Maridueña's collaboration with Gunn and Safran ensures a seamless transition for Blue Beetle into the evolving Dcu, promising an exciting future.
Xolo Maridueña is set to make a notable return to James Gunn's Dcu. Mariduena's Jaime Reyes role, better known as Blue Beetle, is one character from the previous iteration of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) to be included in the DC transformation under Gunn's leadership.
The confirmation comes directly from Maridueña himself, who expressed his optimism about reprising his role in the new Dcu during an interview at the 2024 Saturn Awards. Per Screen Rant, Maridueña said:
"I know we'll see Blue Beetle again, whether it comes in the form of Blue Beetle 2 or wherever.

Despite the box office disappointment of Blue Beetle, Xolo Maridueña will be returning as Jaime Reyes in the new DC Universe. Maridueña confirmed his return and expressed his excitement to continue working with James Gunn and Peter Safran. It is unclear where Blue Beetle will show up next, but potential options include a cameo in Superman: Legacy or appearing in the Booster Gold series. A sequel to Blue Beetle seems unlikely.
The new DC Universe has the perfect way to build upon Blue Beetle, bringing back Jaime Reyes, 2023's breakout superhero. Xolo Maridueña gave life to Jaime, leading Blue Beetle's cast and ushering a refreshing new story into the old Dceu. Despite the end of that shared universe, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the latter who was a producer on Blue Beetle, had made it clear that Maridueña's time as Jaime Reyes would continue in the new Dcu.

The upcoming Blue Beetle #7 will address whether Jaime can help Ted overcome his challenges and continue his superhero career.
The time for one member of the Justice League is coming up faster than fans expected. No one likes seeing a hero end their career early, but recent events might have pushed one iconic Leaguer to his breaking point. That is unless two of his closest allies can convince him otherwise.

Blue Beetle deserved better financial success for its well-done story, cast, and special effects. Knowing the DC Universe reboot was coming dampened excitement for 2023 releases with unresolved set-ups. The Flash had inconsistent CGI, with some impressive scenes but overall disappointing visuals for an A-list superhero.
With the Dceu officially coming to a close with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, looking back at the shared universe's final year makes clear some disappointing truths. It was no surprise when DC announced plans to create an interconnected movie universe, following in the footspeps of Marvel before it. Moreover, while not universally beloved, the Dceu started off strong with Man of Steel, featuring Henry Cavill's well-liked take on Superman. However, the following years were full of ups and downs, driven by behind-the-scenes changes in direction that resulted in an inconsistent vision and lack of overarching direction.

Veteran celebrities being unable to promote their latest projects during the strike was one thing. Xolo Maridueña dutifully staying out of the limelight was another level of sacrifice. The 22-year-old Cobra Kai actor landed the breakout role of a lifetime when he was cast as the lead of DC Films’ Blue Beetle, becoming the first Latino to be the star of a live-action superhero film. Not only did he miss a tidal wave of personal publicity opportunities for the Aug. 18 release but also the chance to represent Latinos in a uniquely visible way that, to hear him tell it, was just as important, if not more so. As Maridueña said to THR last year: “Blue Beetle isn’t to make me the next heartthrob or biggest star. It’s to show people, ‘Hey, these stories about Latinos don’t have to just be about narcos or crossing the border or being a gang member.

Blue Beetle lead actor Xolo Maridueña names the villain he's most keen for his eponymous superhero to take on in the new-look DC Universe.
Speaking with Collider, Maridueña was asked if there was any DC baddie he wanted his character to battle down the line after taking on the formidable Conrad Carapax/Indestructible Man (Raoul Max Trujillo) in Blue Beetle. According to the Cobra Kai star, he'd like to see Jaime Reyes take on the alien villains known as The Reach. "I mean, I don't know if it's too soon to do the Reach. "I do have a date, and it's right around the corner, so I'm excited to get back in the 'gi," he revealed. Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz has confirmed that the upcoming sixth and final season of the hit Netflix series will leave the door open for potential future spin-offs.
During a recent interview with Upi, Hurwitz teased that there are Cobra Kai characters who they believe have more stories to tell beyond Season 6. "Hopefully, the characters are rich enough that if there is an opportunity in the future to pick up with them again one day, they'll still be characters people are hoping to spend time with," he said. In addition, Hurwitz revealed that fans should expect to see lots of new characters who will be joining Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence in the final installment. "We've also added so many characters to the mix and storylines to the mix that it's constantly evolving what this final season is going to be," he continued. "We are taking ourselves to places in...

This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
At the start of Blue Beetle’s second act, protagonist Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) asks an important question: “Who the hell was Blue Beetle?”
A lot of viewers wondered the same thing when the Warner Bros. movie came to theaters earlier this year and they’ll likely be asking it again now that the movie is streaming on Max. People don’t ask that same question of Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but not because Blue Beetle is at best a C-lister in the DC Comics bullpen. Rather it’s because the man behind the Blue Beetle mask has changed several times since Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski debuted the character in 1939.
The big-screen adaptation introduces Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, who is a recent college grad forced to the superhero identity after receiving an alien scarab from Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of inventor Ted Kord,...

Blue Beetle's Xolo Maridueña made his first comments about the DC film, calling the movie "sacred" and revealing how playing Jaime Reyes afforded him the opportunity of a lifetime.
Blue Beetle premiered during the SAG-AFTRA strike, which left its actors unable to promote or discuss the film. Maridueña took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the superhero movie he considers a milestone for the Latino community, "Blue Beetle is sacred to me, from the family you see on screen to the ones I made off this movie has torn me down and built me back up in ways I'll never be able to articulate," he wrote. "To celebrate this moment behind closed doors has been one of the most formative moments of my life, but it helped me realize there is no dollar sign, no tweet, no headline, that can quantify the feeling inside a child who sees their ancestry is heroic,...

Blue Beetle came out late in the summer as the actors’ strike took place. While the film’s star, Xolo Maridueña, has been able to have some of his pre-strike comments about the film come out during the promotional period, the Cobra Kai star was not able to do any press for the DC movie or talk about it in any way on any venue. However, earlier in the summer, when the hype for the new Dcu movie started to build, Maridueña and the film’s director, Angel Manuel Soto, were able to share just how personal and important this movie was for them as it was a superhero story with a prominent Latin representation that made them very proud and emotional.
Now that the strike has subsided, Maridueña has taken to his social media to finally speak in depth about Blue Beetle. According to Deadline, Maridueña shared a series...

Disney fans born before or during the turn of the century likely associate Disney's animated films with a distinctive two-dimensional style. Beginning with Snow White, these animated movies have become a staple in most Disney fans' childhoods. However, with the advent of Tangled, Disney animation would see a shift into a three-dimensional style of animation. Disney was not new to 3-D at this point. Before Tangled, there were films such as Bolt or Meet the Robinsons. However, Tangled marked the first Disney princess film to be animated in this style; the two-dimensional princess films concluded with 2009's The Princess and the Frog.
The trend of 3-D animated Disney films has continued into the present. Most recently, movies such as Encanto have continued the 3-D trend, with Encanto gaining widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. With this recent success, it would appear that 3-D animation is the current reality of Disney films,...

Soto revealed during an interview with Screen Rant that Gunn brought up the upcoming Booster Gold series when discussing Blue Beetle's future in the Dcu. Wonder Woman 1984 was a welcome throwback to an era of superhero movies long gone. Releasing in 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 came at a time when dumb fun should've been valued more than it was. With a better script, Wonder Woman could have marked a shift that would have benefited the Dceu.
Wonder Woman 1984 may have been a critical failure due to a generally messy plot that left audiences scratching their heads, but there is still a lot to love that viewers may be a little too eager to ignore. Its 1980s setting aside, the tone was a throwback to a more innocent time. And while there were several questionable plot points, the story still represented a cheesy time in superhero films that could have paved a new road for the DC Extended Universe that launched with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and could still provide some inspiration for...

Buried deep within the Disney Vault is a little-known animated feature that tantalized star-gazing children during the early 2000s despite its tumultuous behind-the-scenes struggles. With George Lucas reviving his Star Wars franchise with a prequel trilogy, there was a renewed interest in space, aliens, and the uncharted worlds scattered beyond the Solar System. As Disney and their expansive catalog of subsidiaries confront the flailing reality they face at the box office, maybe now is a good time to revisit one of its forgotten cult classics.
It’s difficult to imagine Disney having any cult classics. A film brand that has seemingly pumped out consistent quality throughout its 100-year existence has also delivered some financial flops. Following a creative lull period during the 70s and 80s, Disney rejuvenated itself back to the days of princesses and musicals (and box office prowess) in what is now known as the Disney Renaissance. Ever since their transition to the cinematic medium, both Marvel and DC Comics have made great headway in bringing superheroes to the big screen. The first of these two comic book companies satisfied moviegoers on May 2nd, 2008, with the release of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. DC, on the other hand, soon followed some odd years later in 2013 with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. As much as these types of films are a pure delight for comic book fans all around the world, one of the biggest milestones that the MCU and Dcu have achieved is the sheer number of movies that have come out of both camps since the rebirth of the genre.

“Barbie” (Warner Bros.), the year’s biggest hit, had some competition its third week out on PVOD (for rent at $24.99), and it’s coming from within its own house.
“Blue Beetle,” from Warners’ DC Comics division, actually took #1 at Vudu — even more impressive since it ranks by revenue, putting the $19.99 “Beetle” at a disadvantage. It placed #3 at Google Play, which often is slower to note new releases. “Barbie” remains #1 at iTunes and Google Play.
Three other new titles debuted this week, led by “Gran Turismo” (Sony), as high as #2 at Vudu. Also at $19.99, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” (Focus) also placed on two charts. It’s #4 at Vudu after its third weekend in theaters.
“Muzzle” (Rlj), a direct-to-home release landed at #6 at iTunes at a $6.99 rental. Taking the “John Wick” plot about a man seeking revenge after his dog is killed, this stars Stephen Lang and Aaron Eckhardt.

“Nothing is cannon until ‘Creature Commandos’ next year – a sort of aperitif to the Dcu – & then a deeper dive into the universe with ‘Superman: Legacy’ after that.

DC co-Boss James Gunn took to Instagram’s Threads to field fan questions, and in the process confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will continue to play Blue Beetle, Oscar winner Viola Davis will still be Amanda Waller and John Cena will remain Peacemaker.
Much of this isn’t shocking, as Gunn has already specified on social that Maridueña will continue to play Blue Beetle in the DC universe, this despite the fact that the Latino superhero movie performed so-so at the box office, earning over $70M domestic, and $125M WW. In addition, we already knew that a season 2 of Peacemaker on Max was in the works.

James Gunn clarifies that the DC Universe canon does not begin until the Creature Commandos next year, and "nothing is canon" until then. Some actors will reprise their roles from previous stories, and certain plot points could potentially be consistent with past DC films, shows, and animated projects. It's not clear if any unannounced Dceu actors will still join those continuing into the new Dcu.
With confusion still surrounding the new DC Universe for some, James Gunn has offered a few new updates on what is and isn't Dceu canon. For the last ten years, the Dceu has had an inconsistent ride, which is why 2023 will mark the end of the franchise after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. With the launch of DC Studios under Gunn and Peter Safran, the two CEOs are looking to start over with the DC Universe, which begins with Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters."

James Gunn has offered some clarification on what's canon in the Dcu along with confirming three specific actors who will return from the Dceu to reprise their roles.
Officially, the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will serve as the final chapter of the Dceu (aka the SnyderVerse). This will be followed by Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran launching what they're calling the Dcu, an all-new canon that disregards the previous DC-based movies. That doesn't mean that there won't be certain actors popping back up that were first seen in the Dceu, as Gunn confirmed to a curious fan with a post on Threads that "Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the Dcu, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker."
