Sex & Nudity

  • Plenty of sexual scenes between teens- these scenes are not graphic, do not show nudity. The sexual scenes are not very long and graphic, usually cut out after a few seconds.
  • One character is known to sleep with a lot of people, and in one scene a girl is in another room moaning out her boyfriends name. We later find out that she was actually reading a magazine and trying to trick her friends in the room next door.
  • There is multiple scenes that show people kissing.
  • The sexual scenes include drunken make-out sessions, cheating, losing virginity, and some underwear shots.
  • There are also some scenes where one main character tries very aggressively to force physical action on female characters. It is not implied that he actually rapes any characters, but the forceful physical touch is clearly upsetting to the female characters, and is often stopped by a 3rd party who shows up.
  • Throughout the series there is kissing but no graphic shots. Majority of scenes can be predicted when it is about to happen so it is easy to fast forward if you aren't comfortable for you or your child to watch.
  • The episodes also cover on topics such exploring sexuality as well as characters discovering their sexual identity.
  • In addition to the many verbal references to sex throughout the entire season, there are also some sexual scenes.
  • An example is when a woman (dressed in a cleavage-baring lingerie) climbs on top of man on the bed and starts kissing him. He then turns her around so that he is on top, and places himself in between her legs as they continue kissing passionately. There is no nudity in this scene, and sexual intercourse is implied afterwards.
  • There is also a passing homosexual relationship involving one of the secondary characters; but other than a brief same-sex kissing scene between random people at a party, no physical activity is shown.

Violence & Gore

  • Attempted sexual assaults, some fist fights with a little blood, a mugging and shooting, and a violent drug overdose.

Profanity

  • Regular use of words like "bitch" and "ass".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Almost every single episode someone is drinking some sort of alcoholic beverage. NOTE: most the people drinking are minors. People sometimes smoke cigarettes and take drugs including marijuana and cocaine. Bad drugs and an overdose have been featured

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In season 1 it is obvious Blair has an eating disorder (bulimia) and there are few scenes displaying this.
  • The series has dealt with more mature themes like death, blackmail, lovers cheating, serious illnesses, drugs, drug overdoses, and sexual orientation.
