The character of Hospital Management figure Paul Tennant OBE, latterly Sir Paul Tennant (as he appears in the feature length finale) originally appeared in the script writer Jed Mercurio's previous medical drama Cardiac Arrest from series 2 in 1995. On both occasions he was played by Nicholas Palliser.
Polly and Tony are married in real life
The sex scenes in this series are incredibly explicit and present in almost every episode. Max Beesley, who played Dr. Rob Lake, said he was very nervous when filming these sequences with Neve McIntosh, who played Donna Rix. "It is strange, you've got eight or nine people standing around you and you're completely naked, expected to look relaxed and having a great time," said Beesley, who at first thought that having sex with McIntosh in explicit positions (doggystyle and missionary with legs on shoulders), performing on her graphic cunnilingus and repeatedly licking her nipples, would make his co-star very uncomfortable, but instead he was wrong. "I want to make sure the actress is at ease, but it was Neve would put me at ease in Bodies." McIntosh indeed thought the explicit sex scenes were necessary to tell the story, so asked Beesley to be as real and rough as possible in doing them because "It was definitely the way to go and I loved that." The chemistry and sexual tension between the two actors increased to such an extent during the series that it was said that a romance was born between them. Married McIntosh insisted she and Max were just pals, but admitted he was a "nice and lovely guy with a great sexual reputation." She also said her husband Alex Sahla, a cameraman and writer, understood that she had to do the steamy scenes for work and trusted her.
