A bit too crude for most people's tastes and occasionally just relies on swearing and gore but generally they have enough genuine laughs to get by

The Rotten Fruit are one of the most popular bands in the world but also one of the most violent and foul-mouthed. We follow their adventures as they compete in a battle of the bands, try to stop their music being given away for free on the Snackster and trying to completely trash a fancy London hotel in true rock'n'roll fashion.

Made by the director of the film Cabin Fever, this is a rather weird series of short animations that will certainly not appeal to everyone. The sense of humour is very crude and relies on lots of swearing, gory effects and crude jokes. At some points this reliance is a bit of a pain and it comes across like it was made by a couple of teenagers who just think swearing is funny. However once you get past this (or get hardened to it – not sure which) then it is actually quite funny in a rather silly way.

The band are mostly English for some reason and the films also take heavy swipes at things like boy bands, rock'n'roll and the website Napster. Most of it is rather childish but it is still quite funny and worth seeing. The gore is quite funny at times and not at others – but the overall effect is good. Generally I enjoyed these three short film, although the Napster one was by far the best of the three (with the boy band one a close second). If you're renting the Cabin Fever DVD then these little cartoons are a very welcome addition to your night's entertainment.

Crazy, fun, gory, 70's rockers made of fruit. Too cool.

I watched this with my mouth hanging open. IT IS NOT FOR KIDS. Completely and I assume intentionally over the top.

This is a group of animated fruit (yes fruit) who happen to be crazy rock stars, the story's are about their exploits as a band.In one short a boy band bites the dust very violently and in another short they trash a hotel room.Loads of fun!! It is obvious they are loosely based off of all the hard rock British bands of the late 60's and early 70's.

The cartoon is brilliantly over the top good gross out fun.It is in poor taste often, and often just funny so you are warned.

I wish there were more episodes...watch them if you can.

Something's rotten

Warning: Spoilers
"Rotten Fruit" is a series of 3 animated short films, each roughly 4 minutes long. Over 10 years ago, these were made by Noah Belson and Eli Roth, a successful director and longtime collaborator with Quentin Tarantino. Their work here reminded me a bit of Rex the Runt. The animation style is not too appealing for me, but that's just personal preference. We watch a couple rotten fruit as they cause mayhem basically everywhere they go. The dialogs, stories are neither too funny nor too memorable I must say. Belson and Roth clearly tried something both never did before in the past, but unfortunately it did not turn out a success in my opinion. Thumbs down.

possibly the best thing Eli Roth has done yet, I'm serious

Yeah, the Rotten Fruit, where to begin? They're a band, and they're rotting fruit, oh, and they're like the California raisins, only they do rock and roll and they curse a lot and get into angsty moods and feuds. And don't even TRY and use a 'snackster' to get the music out there, it just won't work. These are just very cheesy short films made by horror director Eli Roth and Noah Belson, but they work for their intents and purposes, which are that of the same caliber of an underground comic-book. I laughed really hard a few times, even just at the mention of some of the characters' names (Banandar, Constable, etc). A lot of them are chuckle-type laughs, but they're all still good, stupid jokes spinning off of rock bands (and boy bands) and all tossed around and given some fervor by these foul-mouthed, uh, produce; maybe think of them as the South Park kids only if they were a rock band, and fruit. But like South Park, it pulls off its crude quality with its sense of humor. It's violent, rude, off-kilter, and definitely displays Roth at his comic best (there are inklings of his comic talents in Hostel). My favorite of the three would go to Room Service, where the band tears up their hotel room, repeatedly bothering the staff, but then end up cleaning the entire place when off-handedly 'challenged' by the manager! I'd definitely watch these again, they're the filthiest, cruelest bunch of Gumbys, and it's jolly good fun. A-

Best Cartoon
Ice18_20075 April 2004
The Rotten fruit is the best Cartoon that is for adults. They are a dirty version of Veggie tales. They sing like veggie tales. But they also drink do drugs and have sex. I'm sure veggie tales would never do anything like this. The Rotten Fruit no point in it but they have different problems. For a example on this one show they destroyed a hotel room. Then in another show the killed a boy band group so that their group will win this contest. So if your sick of Veggi tales and want to get away from them. I give this show two thumbs up. One thumb is for the comedy and the other thumb is for the down right greatness of it. So if your in the mode for some fruit that tell you how it is then watch The Rotten Fruit.

Hilarious and Sick Good Fun

Eli Roth is turning into one of the most bizarrely brilliant filmmakers of my generation. His first feature, "Cabin Fever," a wonderfully gory and hilarious film that almost everyone seems to hate, is a masterpiece in my opinion. However, here, with The Rotten Fruit, he uses more humor than horror to pull the viewer in. The background of The Rotten Fruit is as follows: They're the Rotten Fruit, the most popular band in the world, and we get to see the behind-the-scenes antics of the band, whether it be them trying to win a Battle of the Bands contest by offing the competition, trying to take down the evil Snackster free music provider, or just plain old screwing with the staff at a swanky London hotel. Of the three shorts given to us on the Cabin Fever disc, by far the best is the episode entitled "Battle of the Bands". The reasons behind this are the use of clever in-jokes, hilarious usage of British slang, making fun of your typical boy band (which is always hilarious) and, if you enjoyed Cabin Fever, the gory and sick way they take care of their competition. All in all, if you're out for a good laugh, and only want to watch something for maybe 15 minutes, watch The Rotten Fruit. You won't regret it.

Lots of fun!

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best animations I've ever seen. It is a further demonstration of the great talent of the filmmaker Eli Roth. With a minimal budget and a super creative script, the animation reaches the top, not only graphically but also in its development. The three episodes ("Battle of the Bands", "Snackster" and "Room Service") are quite different, but it is impossible to control the laughter. Definitely not suitable for children, the animation is full of violence, sadism, swearing and even sex kk, but believe me, the dialogs are priceless and it is impossible not to sympathize with the band members. LOL

I recommend this title.

Laughed out loud

Oh My God! The Rotton Fruit are Hilarious...I made my dad watch it and boy did he laugh(I think he was remembering the 70s)

These little short films would be counted as gory, and not for the squeamish...If the subjects of his violence weren't fruit.

I loved it, very creative.

These short animations, and Eli Roths career in itself inspire buddy actors and film students, and remind us that Hollywood isn't all superficial jerks, and one day we may be lucky enough to have the opportunity to create a work, not for money or popularity but because it feels right.

I wish Rotton fruit would come to Australia, it would beat the pants of other animated series.

Eli Roth, You asked people to leave there opinions on IMDb...well here they are.
