Crystal is as cute as a bug in a rug
chasmilt77723 December 2005
I really enjoyed this Hallmark DVD. Crystal Bernard is stunning and a real delight to watch. I reckon it's her Texas beauty that makes her so gorgeous. Steve Guttenberg plays young St. Nick, and does a great job. This is one of those kind of movies that you wish could never end. If your single, male or female, give this movie a try. Thanks again Hallmark, ya'll did good on this one. This movie brought a tear to my eyes when Nick helps out the Dept. store Santa. You will have to watch this movie for yourself and see if it makes you feel good too. It is refreshing to see this movie because the last Christmas / Santa movie I saw was Billy Bob's horrid "Bad Santa" - lol.

Okay
Christmas-Reviewer15 August 2016
Santa's heir (Steve Guttenberg) woos a widowed advertising executive (Crystal Bernard) who wants to use him in the biggest ad campaign of her career.

Now the premise pf this film a cute idea. Fans of 1980's films might enjoy seeing Steve Guttenberg and thus his casting.

Now the film moves fast. There is however something missing because the film feels incomplete.

The film is "Family Safe". However the only people that might enjoy this is children under 12.

Now if you happen to catch this film on Television watch it. It does have a few nice moments that saved this film from becoming a total bust!

If you love The Santa Claus 2 you will enjoy this
lisafordeay20 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Steve Guttenberg from Police Academy and It Takes Two plays young Nick the son of Santa Claus who is the next in line to become Santa Claus as his father is retiring. However Nick has to find a wife before Christmas or else he won't become Santa. Meanwhile we meet a widowed mother named Bette(Crystal Bernard),who hasn't dated a man since her husband's passing and as a little girl she wanted a doll from Santa but she never got it. Nick decides to travel to LA to find a wife and he later meets Bette who is looking for an actor to play Santa Claus for her job campaign. Nick agrees and you pretty much know what happens(hint the two fall madly in love).

Will Nick tell Bette that his Santa or will she think his gone in the head?

Overall its a sweet movie and I like Steve Guttenberg since the 90s.

The only think that annoyed me was Nick saying ho ho ho on repeat and it's got the exact same plot as The Santa Claus 2 with Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell. Still though if you love The Santa Claus 2 then I'd say check it out on TV as it's always on repeat on True Christmas.

5/10.

Darling movie
Davidsmom9315 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This Christmas movie is darling! It was quite refreshing (although that is an odd word to use) to show a single Mom as a widow, not as a divorcée. It seems that so many movies glorify divorce and single motherhood.

I also agree with those that says that the wig used for Crystal was terrible! It was terribly distracting! They would have been better off to just let her have short hair. I don't know of anyone that always has her hair in a ponytail!

Please note that there is a sequel and it is equally as darling (Meet the Santa's)!!

I just wish that there was a final movie to view... where they settle into the North Pole!

Not exactly a cup of Christmas cheer.
michaelRokeefe12 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Made-for-TV, tame and lame. Must be the season of stupidity. Santa Claus(John Wheeler)is considering retirement and wants to turn over the reigns to his son Nick(Steve Guttenberg). But Santa is concerned because his son has yet to settle down become a family man. Ernst(Armiln Shimerman)actually runs the operations at the North Pole; and he hand picks three candidates for Nick to approve of. Nick surprisingly falls in love with a single mother Beth(Crystal Bernard), who has lost the Christmas spirit long, long ago. Will she be the next Mrs. Claus? Hokey deluxe. Also in the cast: Thomas Calabro, Dominic Scott Kay and Wendy Braun.

Pretty good cup of Christmas cheer!
jml19882 December 2019
This was lovable and sweet. My dislikes were that Beth seemed too blah and not smitten enough. I also would have loved to watch her quit her job and them see the North Pole for the first time. I really loved the little magic Nick did for people!

Little son Nick
Lejink4 December 2013
My wife and I will watch any old Christmas related rubbish at this time of year and this fairly sappy, silly movie certainly fits that category. Steve Guttenburg, looking like Will "Elf" Ferrell's kid brother, stars and generally gets to goof around as Santa Claus's son, Nicholas naturally, charged by his father to find a wife to settle down with and take with him to Lapland for the rest of her days. Tracked and urged on by Santa's rather dour little helper, he saves the life of an unbelieving single-mum workaholic advertising executive career woman, played by Crystal Bernard. Rather conveniently, she's recently widowed and bringing up her young son alone, but before you can say "A partridge in a pear tree", encouraged by her young son, the two gradually come together as a couple but can they do so by the deadline of Christmas Day? Well, what do you think?!

The plot as you can tell borrows from "Elf" but with even more schmaltz and sentimentality with the kid son looking conveniently like a brother of MacAulay Culkin. The comedy is very mild and obviously family-oriented but you can't believe in the wholesome winsomeness of Guttenburg and Barnard, the former only identifying us as to his true identity by giving it "Ho Ho Ho" any chance he can get. I did like the touch of Claus Jr making like a universal translator for the oration of a store Santa for a variety of different nationalities, but in the end the Chrstmas pudding is over-egged and over-syruped to the point that your teeth may fall out just watching it.

A New Holiday Classic!
jmsabater27 December 2004
This is a movie that I would buy on DVD. It is the perfect Christmas movie. It did not have one single thing that was negative. Steve Guttenberg was perfect in his role as Nick. His characterization was so complete, down to his natural sounding Ho Ho Ho's! He demonstrated the kind of man that any woman would be so blessed to have. I have enjoyed him in films for years and he is as captivating as ever. Krystal Bernard was so cute. I have watched her for years, also, since It's a Living to Wings. She very aptly portrayed a New Milenium Career Woman and Mother. I have always enjoyed the dimension she brings to her characters and gee, she never seems to age! The boy who played Jake was great! He reminded me a bit of the boy who played in Sleepless in Seattle. He is very talented and gave a memorable performance. I know I will recognize him in future projects! I wish so much that they would repeat the airing of this film this year. I look forward to seeing it often in the years to come. This is a Christmas film that I won't ever get tired of seeing. I really loved it!

Life is officious enough. We don't need it in Santa.
mark.waltz24 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's bad enough that Crystal Bernard's boss is officious and demanding, but do we need to see it in the running of the North Pole? Santa has a right-hand man who is so officious that you want to see him turned into stocking coal. This creates a very unpleasant opening to a Christmas comedy that has a retiring Santa demanding that his son (Steve Guttenberg) get married. Just like that. Sweet Mrs. Claus is also as demanding, although jolly old St. Nick just seems like a little boy in a fat santa suit.

So now Guttenberg hits the big city, looking for miss right and finds it with the widowed Bernard who has a young son. Joyful Joyful. Christmas movies of the past 25 years have been a very mixed bag, and there is something about the new fashion that makes the old fashioned much more desirable. New trends aren't necessarily a good representation of the holiday spirit, and this is very depressing with the agenda it presents.

You get all of the Christmas joy in the music and in props oh, but there's a phoniness in modern society that just makes this irritating from the start. The acting for the most part create a bunch of obnoxious characters, and it makes me long for a sleigh that will take me through a Time Tunnel back in 1946 when I could find a wonderful life with James Stewart or hopefully a revival house starring Barbara Stanwyck taking me to Connecticut for Christmas. Guttenberg is fine but he has no chemistry with Bernard.

One of the best Christmas Movies out there
carolhardycane18 December 2009
To me, the only annoying thing about the movie was Nick's laugh. I realize that as Santa, he has to "ho ho ho" sometimes, but I didn't like hearing it every single time he laughed. Other than that, it was a great movie. Crystal Bernard is beautiful and always likable and the kid who played her son was a doll, too. You have to remember that Christmas movies are, as a general rule, not going to be Oscar winners. You have to like the genre first, and if you don't, you probably won't like most Christmas movies and should stay away from them (while muttering "Bah! Humbug!" to yourself!!!!). This one is better than most.

It is utter crap
kas_63 April 2007
Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus is one of the crappiest TV movies I have ever seen. The story and the content of the movie is absolutely awful in terms of the script and the way the writer wrote ("mothering" parts of Beth played by Crystal Bernard), in the script that I feel is totally unacceptable causing the audience a lot of horrific, upsetting, boring and it is horrendous to watch.

On the other hand, Beth Andrews (Crystal Bernard) is totally garbage in her role is 100% crap and her acting is totally rubbish which I feel is totally disgraceful for a Christmas movie to be broadcast, making the audiences feel aware. In my opinion it is not a good movie.

I am not happy with the story, the content, the acting and everything which in the movie especially "Meet The Santas" which is another crap follow up. Wish this TV movie should not be broadcast at all.

I wish this movie is not going to be broadcasts in future not in thirty million years.

Weak fantasy, gushy summer holiday flick falls flat
SimonJack25 December 2017
One wonders why Hallmark aired this Christmas-theme movie in the summer. "Christmas in July," perhaps? Whatever the reason, it's not a very good film. Much more fairy tale than romance, it's quite far out. It may appeal some to little kids and families. But it may have trouble holding older children and adults.

Steve Guttenberg's Nicholas, or "Nick," is a likeable and kind guy; but he's gushing over with it here ad nauseam. His "Ho, ho, ho" laughter a few times is terribly hokey. He even draws a somewhat scornful look from Beth the first time, as though this might not have been rehearsed and she thought it wasn't quite right.

Crystal Bernard plays Beth, who appears to be non-stop working in this film. She has a boss that doesn't let up. Yet, for all her nights and weekends of work, she still has time for her son and a friendship or two. It's a little hard to figure that out. Unless she may have to work nights because she's off so often during the daytime with Nick and others.

Anyway, if anyone worked as much as the movie tries to tell us she does, they would probably look a little haggard and show some physical signs of tiredness. But, Beth is perkier than ever after another light night of work.

This film just doesn't work, even with the dwarf people in the cast who serve as elves.

Loved this touching and sincere Christmas story
direknyte30 November 2006
I truly loved this story, it was AWESOME to see Crystal Bernard again! It was so much better than a lot of recent "holiday" movies (Tim Allen's 'The Santa Claus' series not-withstanding It was thoughtful, happy, and actually contained both spirit and hope. All that being said, the only thing that bothered me, and yes, it is indeed trivial... what in hades happened to Steve Guttenberg's eyebrows? Looks like someone tried to thin them out or something, and obliterated them completely. It sorta freaked everyone in my family out. Anyways, kudos to Hallmark for making another fine, high quality family program, hope you keep them coming!

One of my top favorites...and the sequel too!
adoptshelterpetstoday15 December 2014
This Christmas movie is timeless, and I find it enjoyable every time I watch it!.....The plot definitely stays focused on Christmas...and flows nicely...a really nice magical type of Christmas movie...a light-hearted, "fun" movie, without being corny to prompt changing the channel...and without annoying "background" (so called) "singing" and / or unrelated songs and /or blaring music!...which Hallmark Christmas movies are notorious for having....This movie totally is unlike the other Hm. "Christmas" movies that attempted to have the same effect...but came up extremely short.

The "humbug" theme was expressed in a way that made the movie optimistically interesting and cheerful....The very talented Crystal Bernard and Steve Guttenberg were excellent choices. Neither one was annoying. I think Steve particularly was an excellent choice to carry out his role. He had the right expressions, appearance, humor, sincerity, and voice tone...best Santa Jr. by far. Everyone's acting was nothing less than ideal. And on the whole, this movie is second to none in its category.

***Congratulations to Steve, Crystal, and the staff for making a very, very enjoyable Christmas movie!***

This movie is one of the better Made for TV movies in several years
dennyswoman19 December 2008
I think this movie had a very good plot with believable characters who played Nick and Beth. It is not only believable, but it is one that will hold your interest throughout the movie. Unless, you're in to violent, negative movies...this movie is positive and comforting. A must see. Thanks Hallmark. I think a second sequel to this one and Meet the Santas would be a good idea. Why not do one where they portray the start of their life at the North Pole and the trials that they go through to get to the point where it really comes naturally. That would be a keeper!! Nick played by Steve Guttenberg is very good. I did keep wondering when he would fill out and his hair grow gray but he is young here. Steve always does an excellent job with whatever role he plays. Beth played by Crystal Bernard was great! She played a great single mom trying to juggle work and home life. The actor who played Ernest was excellent in his role. And the elves they showed in the North Pole scenes looked like the ones who played in Little People, Big World. The sequel with Beth's mother is equally believable and is cute with the magic they do right under her nose. Both of them are keepers to me and we need a followup of the start of their married life at the North Pole!!

Great Movie...But...
tsktjmb13 November 2017
Love this movie. I actually live where it was filmed. However, There's a lot lacking in Gutenberg's performance. It seems forced and poorly acted and the constant fake Ho, Ho, Ho is unbearable.

Gutenberg's father (retiring Santa) is also a terrible actor.

The plot is great and all the other actors do a great job.

Better casting was needed.
