Brilliant!

Remember these two names: Nicker Tucker (Director) and Mark Hefti (Lead)!

This film showcases these two new talents. A unique genre that keeps you guessing and on the edge.

The problem with writing a review about such a film is that you can only write so much about it without spoiling it.

It is a remarkably insightful film about the nature of what makes people become fans or "fanatics". The feeling you get when you watch this film reminds me a bit about how I felt when I watched "A simple plan" with Billy Bob Thorton or "The Office", a BBC series from England. It is an uneasy feeling mixed with sinful voyeurism, sadism but complete entertainment.

One thing is for sure, this movie won't leave you indifferent.

You'll want to watch it again to admire the talent.

My only criticism is that it might be 10 minutes too long. It's one of these things where you don't want it to end but wish it ended 10 minutes earlier when it's over.

Great job! I am looking forward to what these guys will come up with next.

Great sound track by the way!

Inveiglely real
glevering10 February 2005
I was very lucky to get the chance to watch Fandom. After viewing this well constructed documentary, I was left with a good feeling. Although I don't relate to the main character Gordon I can say that I can understand him. I will compare this movie to another great documentary that I saw Searching for Haizmann. Fandom like Hazemann explores a forbidden depth of nature that people take for granted when anxiety is left. I feel confident that others who view this will appreciate its depth and intrigue. Fandom offers directive measures to pull out every hidden emotion. Emotions best captured when reality has sunk in. My hats are off to the director and the crew for an aspiring film. In the future I hope more documentaries are this good. I rate this film 10/10.

Unethical production
lists-1288 April 2006
This is an unethical film. The filmmakers laugh and taunt a mentally ill character on-camera. They proceed to get the protagonist drunk on-camera, and in a pivotal scene intimidate the character to continue participating in the film. The filmmaker complains about how much money it costs to make the film and holds the character accountable for the costs associated with production if the character does not participate. This is wrong.

Horrible production values, careless storytelling aside, the ethics of this production are distorted and abusive. The filmmakers, rather than opportunistically promoting this misguided film, should seriously reconsider their practice.

Amazing film!!

Fandom truly caught me by surprise! I didn't know what to expect going in, but I laughed out loud, I gasped out loud, and cried (not so out loud). A very bittersweet kind of movie that I've been trying to explain to my friends, but you just have to see it to understand the impact it has. I would tell anybody and everybody to check out FANDOM if you have a chance. I don't want to say too much about it, and give it away, but there are some unexpected twists and plot turns. Gordon and his family are such great characters that they keep you in stitches throughout the film. The director and cameraman also play a part in the movie, and have some of the funniest moments when they comment on the odd nature of Gordon and his actions. Don't expect to be only laughing though, because poor Gordon goes through a lot in this film. Great job to the filmmakers and cast!

basically scary
strohphoto19 December 2006
I've seen scary movies and this one kept my pants wet because I was so frightened that I peed. I enjoyed the Calfornia road trip, wished the acting was good, and wanted to laugh but couldn't. The premise is good but the results to get to there were not effective. Essentially, I believe it should be recast, re-written with actual dialogue and let Jim Carrey take the lead. The supporting cast does a good job in faking the realism. I hope that Natalie Portman is somewhat amused and flattered. I remember when Rebecca Schaffer was shot in LA and the film did have a sense of nuttiness that a psychopath may have like Scott Peterson. Unfortunately, there was no real guts to hold the viewer and it failed.

Don't Give Up Early, It's Worth The Wait

Only a couple of movies in my 52 years have caused my jaw to drop with their ending. This was one of them. I cannot recommend this movie too highly! It is riveting viewing from start to finish and the pay-off at the conclusion will stick with viewers their entire life. I cannot remember being so dumbstruck with a movie's conclusion. The story line is one that has to fascinate every movie fan in the world. We all wonder about those individuals whose lives are devoted to the adoration and veneration of celebrities and this movie captures a glimpse inside that dark and disturbing world perfectly.

Great viewing, but admittedly uncomfortable throughout. I'm still reeling.
