Earlier this month, it was announced that Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, are teaming up with director Jonathan Liebesman – who they previously worked with on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – to make a werewolf movie called Wolf Night. Now Deadline reports that Wolf Night has found a home at Sony’s Screen Gems.
Michael Bitar is overseeing the project for Screen Gems, while Alex Ginno does the same for Platinum Dunes.
Screen Gems has put out a whole lot of horror movies over the years, with titles including Don’t Breathe, Resident Evil, Underworld, Deliver Us from Evil, The Grudge, Carrie, The Stepfather, Prom Night, The Pope’s Exorcist, Insidious: The Red Door, and the upcoming Tarot. They recently secured a first-look deal with Gary Dauberman, who worked on the...

We had learned about an interesting horror project earlier this month titled Wolf Night, a werewolf movie set to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman. The film has been compared to both District 9 and The Purge… with werewolves… and Deadline brings us a big update this week.
The hot Platinum Dunes package has been picked up by Screen Gems, Deadline informs us, with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller producing Wolf Night for Platinum Dunes.
Will Honley and April Maguire wrote the screenplay for Wolf Night, but aside from the comparisons to the aforementioned movies, the plot is under wraps at this time.
Jonathan Liebesman’s directorial credits over the years also include Rings (2005), The Killing Room (2009), Wrath of the Titans (2012), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
Will Honley recently wrote Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.
Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves and Larry Fessenden’s Blackout are also headed our way this year,...

The folks at Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, clearly love working with director Jonathan Liebesman. After working with Liebesman on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, they had him attached to direct their reboot of Friday the 13th for a while – and even though Liebesman wasn’t at the helm of that one by the time it went into production, they did work with him again, on their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, a decade later, Platinum Dunes and Jonathan Liebesman are re-teaming for a werewolf movie called Wolf Night.
Deadline wasn’t able to dig up much information on Wolf Night, but they did learn that the project is being described as “District 9 by way of The Purge“. Will Honley, whose writing credits include Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, wrote the screenplay with April Maguire.

Project Dorothy opens with 1990s vintage footage of a huge factory with robotic machinery, smiling faces in the offices, and lots of forklifts. But something went wrong in this industrial paradise, we hear a voice talking about evacuation, followed by the sound of unseen people running and screaming. Then a final “I love you” as the lights go out.
Then “Many Years Later” two men James and his younger accomplice Blake are on the run after a bank robbery gone wrong. They were hired to get a laptop in the safe deposit box, and they got that. But James also got a bullet in the leg. Needing a place to hide, they break into a familiar looking building.

I’ve been on a bit of a TV kick lately. You’ll see it coming up in one of the adaptation videos but also in what I’ve been watching. The 2023 season of Creepshow has been a lot of fun and Mike Flanagan’s “Succession mixed with a Giallo” in Fall of the House of Usher has been one of my favorite pieces of media this year. It reminded me a lot of growing up watching the second coming of TV horror movies in the 90s. I hesitate to call it the golden age because I think the 70s still holds that title but the 90s had all manner from Stephen King adaptations,...

As of this writing, there are nine movies in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series, and sussing out their chronology is one of the more herculean tasks a horror fan may find themselves undertaking. Like the "Halloween" movies, the "Texas Chainsaw" flicks abide by a choose-your-own-adventure structure, with some movies following a definite timeline, and others merrily ignoring previous chapters. Confoundingly, several of them have almost identical titles. The only consistent element of "Texas Chainsaw" is that they are all horrifically violent and unbearably disturbing. But, y'know, in a good way.
The premise of the "Texas Chainsaw" movies is simple. Thanks to rampant American poverty, entire families have been forced to live off the grid in remote, rural parts of the country. One of these families, largely inbred and blissfully detached from conventional morality, has taken to kidnapping passersby, stripping them for meat, and using their skin and bones as construction materials.

When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

It can seem like "superhero movie" is an automatic greenlight in Hollywood these days. Yet, the genre is still littered with unrealized projects.
One is "X-Men Origins: Magneto." True to its title, it would've chronicled the early years of the X-Men's arch-foe. If any Marvel villain could sustain an origin movie, it's Magneto, who has one of the boldest backstories in superhero comics. In the 1980s, "X-Men" comic writer Chris Claremont desired to revitalize Magneto, to make him "a more credible adversary, but also a more credible person." That meant offering a reason for why he believed in mutant supremacy. Claremont considered what was known about Magneto and struck upon brilliance:
"Magneto had to have come to adolescence, and possibly come of age, in the Second World War. And he certainly looked European. And what would have given him such an extreme attitude toward mutant-human relations? [...] The next corollary was,...

In 1974, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” emerged as one of the most influential slasher movies of all time, and Leatherface entered the pantheon of horror villain greats. Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!

This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

Legendary’s upcoming direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is getting a dramatic overhaul one week into production. Deadline confirms directors Andy and Ryan Tohill are exiting the project over creative differences because Legendary is unhappy with the footage they shot over week one of filming. David Blue Garcia, the filmmaker behind the $58,000 indie “Tejano,” is taking over directing duties on the film.
“The Dig” directors Andy and Ryan Tohill boarded the “Texas Chainsaw” sequel in February 2020. The movie picks up in the same timeline as Hooper’s 1974 movie and ignores the events of the previous sequels, similar to David Gordon Green’s 2018 “Halloween,” serving as a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 movie. According to Deadline, the new “Texas Chainsaw” cast includes “Eighth Grade” favorite Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Jacob Latimore, and Moe Dunford. The film is shooting in Bulgaria.

Ryan and Andy Tohill set to breathe new life into an old leatherface as Texas Chainsaw Massacre begins again.
Sally and Franklin Hardesty are picking up one last goddamn hitchhiker. Legendary Entertainment has their hand on the starter rope of another The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, according to Variety.
With a screenplay by Chris Thomas Devlin, the film will be directed by Ryan and Andy Tohill, who made their feature-directing debut with The Dig (2018). That movie was about a convicted killer with amnesia who gets out of jail to dig up a body he can’t remember. Much like the last film made from Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic: the 2017 film Leatherface directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo.
“The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” producer Fede Alvarez said in a statement. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.

There are some big changes coming to Netflix in July.
From new shows and movies, to shows and movies leaving the service, it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep up to speed on all the movers and shakers.
That's why we'll be running this monthy article with all the information you need about these changes.
The biggest premiere on the streaming giant in the month of July will likely be Stranger Things Season 3, which is getting a Thursday launch on July 4th.
The extra long weekend should give viewers ample time to binge the eight-episode third season of the sci-fi drama.

See With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ upon us, here’s why Marvel deserves (gasp!) an Honorary Oscar
This NBC series starred Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter and Malcolm Barrett as a trio of time travelers who try to prevent a mysterious organization from changing the course of history as we know it. Throughout its two seasons, the series took viewers back to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the Salem Witch Trials, Hollywood’s golden age, and the Battle of the Alamo, to name a few. It wrapped up its run with a two-hour Christmas special that took place during both California’s Gold Rush and the Korean War’s Hungnam evacuation.

Halloween is over, and as the monsters, slashers, and trick-or-treaters fade into the night to be replaced with Christmas iconography, I am left with a hollow feeling. “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good.”
October is one of my favorite months of the year, and not just because of my wedding anniversary. October marks the changing of the seasons, the influx of pumpkin spice into the bloodstream of the world, and the only time when talking about horror movies regularly is okay and not a potential warning sign that there is a serial killer nearby.
The status of horror movies has changed over the years and continues to chase the fads of what’s popular; nothing new here. However, with a new Halloween film in theaters and a renewed interest in bringing back the Friday the 13th franchise, now is a great time to wax nostalgic on some of the classic slasher film franchises.

Ah, movies. Remember those, Netflix viewers? Because why binge every episode of “Queer Eye” when you could do a “Black Panther,” “Spider-Man 3,” and “The Breakfast Club” triple-header? It would take just as much time and be much more educational.
All three are heading to the streaming giant next month, along with “The Cider House Rules,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” and “Groundhog Day.” Netflix gets into the comedy game with originals, including Sanaa Lathan in “Nappily Ever After” and “Sierra Burgess Is A Loser,” starring Shannon Purser of “Stranger Things” and “Riverdale” fame. Rashida Jones makes her directorial debut next month with “Quincy,” the definitive documentary about her legendary father, Quincy Jones.

With a relentless delivery of some of the most head-turning lines in cinema, R. Lee Ermey had a commanding, unparalleled screen presence in films and television, and we're sad to share the news of the iconic actor's passing at the age of 74.
The news of R. Lee Ermey's passing was shared on Twitter by his manager, Bill Rogin, who posted:
"It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ("The Gunny") passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

A Us Marine, Vietnam veteran, and drill instructor in real life, Ermey brought that same military intensity, determination, and passion to the big screen in 1987 for his standout role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

You might be asking yourself, “Didn’t we already see ‘Leatherface‘? ” and we understand the confusion. It wasn’t that long ago that we got “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning,” which itself was a prequel to the Michael Bay produced reboot. (We know, bear with us). Instead, “Leatherface” is a prequel to Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 horror classic, and yes, it’s about the beginnings of the madman who would wield a chainsaw.

Nine years ago Jonathan Liebesman directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Now that prequel to the remake is being overwritten by another Texas Chainsaw origin story. Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are behind the cameras this time, and the first poster for Leatherface has just arrived. Reflect on it below.Like Liebesman's film, the new Leatherface is following the hulking killer's early years in the 1970s, although in this case we'll find him in his teens before he dons the mask and picks up the saw. The hook for the plot is Leatherface escaping from a mental institution along with three other inmates, dragging a kidnapped nurse along with them for "the road trip from Hell". Sam Strike, Sam Coleman, James Bloor and Jessica Madsen are the escapees, with Vanessa Grasse the nurse. Stephen Dorff plays the deranged Texas lawman chasing them, and Lili Taylor is Leatherface's mom,...

It’s a fate worse than any Blockbuster late fee from back in the day: if you watch the tape, you die one week later at the hands of Samara Morgan, the black-haired ghost girl who needs no help getting out of the well she calls home. Though the 2002 American remake of 1998's Ringu unveiled some of Samara's backstory (in addition to the 2005 sequel, The Ring Two), there's still much more to explore about the adopted girl in the well, and Paramount is looking to to shed light on the murky horrors of Samara's past with Rings, the upcoming third entry in The Ring remake franchise that's slated for release late this year. Pre-production on the movie recently kicked off in Atlanta, and director F. Javier Gutiérrez shared some photos that give us new glimpses of the black-haired terror from the TV screen and much more.

For somebody to drive a chainsaw through a human body, swing a mallet down on someone's head, and wear another person's skin on their own, they likely had some tumultuous teen years. Though we got a taste of what Leatherface's, aka Thomas Hewitt's, younger years were like in Jonathan Liebesman's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, we haven't had a full helping of those growing pains-filled times, but French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are looking to change that with Leatherface, an upcoming prequel to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. From Millennium Films, Leatherface will at the very least explore a slice of the titular antagonist's teen life and although cameras haven't started rolling on the project yet, a growing cast is being assembled, with one of the actors potentially set to play the legendary backroads killer.
