I have this video hidden away somewhere. I watched it a lot when my children were babies. When I felt weepy about loving my little ones, I'd put this in the VCR and weep some more.
The video (I had no idea this was ever on TV) is simply each of the singers singing a song to their child about loving their child. The singers are recorded sitting on a porch, or in a hay loft, or some other warm, relaxing place, sunlit and soft. The musicians are sometimes in the scene, sometimes not. Roseanne Cash, of course, plays the guitar.
The songs are devoted, sweet and heartfelt and every time I see the video, it makes me want to hug a child. If you are not a mom, you won't benefit from the lovely lyrics that just seem to 'turn on the waterworks' - oh, OK, maybe if you are a father who dearly loves his children and doesn't mind sobbing about it!
Carole King sings 'If I Didn't Have You to Wake Up To' as a love song to her child.
Roseanne Cash sing 'Carrie' to her daughter.
Emmy Lou Harris sings the title song, 'Child of Mine' which was penned by Carole King.
Maura O'Connell sings 'Dun Do Shuile,' the Gaelic lullaby. She also sings the song that begins, 'I hope you have the feet of a dancer...' or something like that. It was the first time I had ever heard that enchanting song, wishing a child every good thing possible in life.

Gloria Estefan sings 'Nayib's Song (I Am Here For You)' which she wrote for her son Nayib and which always reduces me to a blubbering mess.
Deniece Williams, Dionne Warwick and Mary Chapin Carpenter sing also. Mary Chapin Carpenter's contribution is 'Dreamland,' a lullaby which is sung by all the performer.
