The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (2003) Poster

Mark Bittner: Self

Quotes

  • Mark Bittner : We're all one river till we hit this cliff. That distance between the top of the cliff and the bottom of the cliff is our life. And all the individual little droplets think they really are individual little droplets until they hit the bottom, and then they're gone. But that droplet doesn't lose anything, it gains. It gains the rest of the river.

  • [first lines]

French Tourist : Bonjour. Regarde ça. Wow.

Mark Bittner : You're not Fanny, either. Where's Fanny? Come on Fanny, where are you? There you are. Yes.

  • Mark Bittner : I don't think of myself as an eccentric. I saw these wild parrots, they were a big mystery to me, and I wanted to find out who they were.

  • [last lines]

Mark Bittner : I used to think the native birds were really boring. I didn't even think about them. I never noticed them. And now I always see them, I always see what they're doing. And I see that just like the parrots they have personalities too. I mean, they have their own particular lives. There are even quail here in the city. I've noticed that mourning doves, which looked very stupid to me, if you get at just the right angle you can see the pupil, and then you get a different idea of what they are. I was looking for something that I could really get into. I didn't expect it to go this far.

    [pause. Mark's hair being cut]

Judy Irving : And, um, Mark and I became a pair.
