Absolutely hilarious!
radiosilence767 October 2007
This show is just so funny! I have been wanting to see this series after reading up on it, but when we got the DVD i was disappointed that it had no English subtitles. So my boyfriend (good thing he's Danish!) took the sweetest task of translating for me as we watched, and we couldn't stop laughing! We wonder how it could happen but it did... we guess it must be because Frank and Casper's facial expressions and movements are so silly, and the two women Mia and Iben are really seriously funny as well. And of course, my boyfriend's way of translating the dialogue was done with a real talent and i love him for it. Great show guys!

Season 1

Clown Season 1 is a love child between Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen. It's an impromptu comedy series set in reality where most people play themselves. There are exceptions, and when these take place with now-famous actors, it breaks a bit with their own set-up. Otherwise, Clown can be described as tear-jerking, funny and easy.

Season 6

Warning: Spoilers
Season 1: 8/10 Season 2: 8/10 Season 3: 7/10 Season 4: 7/10 Season 5: 8/10 Season 6: 8/10

Season 6 is the final season in the original run. It maintains the tempo and quality of the previous seasons, but you can also sense that the series has found its place in terms of continuity. The cast knows their roles so well that they each bring something special to them, and the chemistry is really good.

I like that there's a common thread throughout the season with Casper's depression and Mia and Frank's move to the countryside.

Season 6 concludes with Frank on his knees, having been rejected by Mia. Pivert has indirectly caused Bodil's death, and Casper is, well, Casper. Carøe and Susan are still in jail for cocaine trafficking.

Fun show, a Danish version of "Curb Your Enthusiasm"
thomas-11014 February 2005
"Klovn" is a comedy show apparently based on real events. It has a semi-documentary style to it, very much like the innovative American comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Although very much in its infancy, I must say that "Klovn" looks great, and that is due to the wonderful writing and the fact that the people behind it are Denmarks best comedians - Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam. They continue to take Danish sit-coms to new levels, and "Klovn" is another fine piece of work. So never mind that the idea was not their own to begin with.

The rest of the acting line-up consists of accomplished actors and actresses, for example is Iben Hjelje (High Fidelity) one of the supporting actresses on show here.

If you're fond of real-lifelike, embarrassing situations acted out by very funny people, this is a show you must see.

Best Scandinavian Comedy I've Found
thorsteinn4421 January 2021
A previous reviewer was spot on when comparing this to a Danish Curb Your Enthusiasm. However, in true Scandinavian style, it's a bit more raw/real and the humor is darker. So whenever I'm in the mood from some Curb Your Enthusiasm humor but want a bit more, I go to Klovn.

But even though the style of comedy is similar to CYE, it's very original and has a distinct style that can't be replicated. This is partly due to the fantastic acting and characters of the show. I'm lucky enough to understand Danish but if I got my hands on this show with English subtitles, I'd be watching this with friends and family regularly. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy dark, awkward, Scandinavian humor. Don't watch this with your parents or grandparents.

Frank lives with Mia and he has a best friend in the famous TV star. They experience a lot together and sometimes you can't believe what they've been through!
heidi-18320 August 2006
Everything happens to Frank, and its because he's so stupid. You think: Now it would be a really bad idea to do THAT, and then the second later he's in the very situation you would hate to see him in. A very good piece of entertainment if you are into the danish humor, which is very ironic and harsh. For instance they make fun of being a racist, which is kind of a tender topic these days. But it seems alright in the series because it's only the "bad" guy Frank who is a racist and he is totally voted down on this point of view and it bites himself in the ass in the end. They really had a good idea when they made this show happen because after their big hits like "Far from Las Vegas" they needed a new face in front, they've been using Casper Christensen all the time and Frank has been along the side from the beginning. So the switch of focus has not only been a success but they made Casper an asshole and that is quite funny for the Danes because everyone knows that he is very nice in real life.

A true original

Klovn is one of a kind and I have never seen anything like it. Truly genius and the funniest TV Show I have ever watched. ...Though to enjoy the full potentiel of this show, I do think you need to understand danish and know about Frank and Casper's place in the danish comedy-scene.

The kids bad acting destroyed it...
antonn-5034619 November 2021
Klovn is one of the best danish comedy series. BUT, from season 7 when Mia and Frank got children it kinda destroyed the serie, because of the kids bad acting.

Season 1-6 = 10 stars Season 7 = 5 stars Season 8 = 7 stars.

Great Show from Denmark
Lumpychunks5 October 2011
I discovered this show while visiting a friend in Denmark last year. During some downtime, my friend convinced me to watch a few episodes of Klovn on DVD, proclaiming, it's a Danish Curb your enthusiasm. Before I knew it, I bought the entire box set to take home to my friends in Australia. This show is fantastic, it really draws you in and commands you to watch episode after episode. I laughed myself stupid throughout the whole series and I could easily watch the whole thing repeatedly. Some people have called it a Danish Curb your enthusiasm, but I would dare say that this show is better. Curb maintains it hilarity for about 3 seasons, before becoming predictable and unrealistic. Klovn stays funny and true to itself for the entire 6 seasons. Also, as a side note, if you've ever been to Denmark, this show transports you back there, it's a really beautiful country.

Funniest thing on TV!!
per-697 April 2006
The best way to describe this to Americans is: "like Curb Your Enthusiasm... only actually funny!" Yes some say they stole the idea from Curb, and they admit that they where inspired by that show, but I never thought Curb was very funny. However Klovn is great fun. Not many shows actually make me laugh out loud, but this one sure does. Frank Wahm is a master of expressions and one look on his face can make you laugh. Also the show seems to go way beyond the normal tabu subjects and have no problem using cancer or what not as a punchline. The humor can be very "dark" at times, but thats one of the things that sets it apart from the norm.
