Long-running court show Judge Alex has been cancelled. The cancellation was confirmed by Stephen Brown, executive VP of programming and development for the Fox Television Stations.
“We would like to thank Alex Ferrer as well as executive producer Kathy Sapp and the entire staff for producing a strong daytime court program,” said Brown in a statement. “Alex’s extensive police, legal and judicial experience combined with his great sense of humor made for compelling daytime television for nearly 10 years.”
Judge Alex debuted on September 12, 2005 and features cases that are presided over by Judge Alex E. Ferrer, a former police officer, lawyer, and Florida judge.
The series is the lowest-rated of the five remaining court shows and will continue airing original episodes through August.

Is Michael Lohan a bad boy? Sure, the father of the troubled Lindsay Lohan doesn't have the best public reputation (multiple arrests, yapping to the press about his daughter). But if you were to judge him based on his appearance on "Judge Alex" Bad Boys Week to resolve a contract dispute about a celebrity boxing match, you might not think so.
"They were both actually very polite -- that's the way I like to run my courtroom. I don't like to let people run amok," Judge Alex Ferrer tells Zap2it exclusively of Lohan and Damon Feldman, the celebrity boxing promoter who sued Lohan for dropping out of two matches.

Talk shows like Bonnie Hunt and Oprah Winfrey may be going away but it looks like the court shows are here to stay. Twentieth Television has announced that Divorce Court and Judge Alex have each been renewed for two more years, taking each through the 2011-12 season.
Divorce Court has had a long history on the small screen, in three incarnations. It ran for 12 years, from 1957 until 1969, and then came back for another seven years beginning in 1985. The current incarnation has been on the air since 1999 and Judge Lynn Toler leads the on-air proceedings.
Comparatively, Judge Alex is a newcomer, having been on the air since 2005. The court cases are presided over by Alex Ferrer, a former police officer, attorney, and Florida judge.

Actress-comedian-author Jackie Guerra has been meeting with top-level producers around town discussing a daytime talk show, sources said.
Guerra would host the project, being discussed as a possible syndicated show, sources said. Latino talent has become a big part of syndication as multiple talk show pilots this past development season featured Latina hosts, and courts shows including The People's Court, Judge Maria Lopez, Judge Alex and Cristina's Court feature Latino judges.
Guerra's reps at Rebel Entertainment Partners and Brillstein-Grey are tight-lipped about the discussions and declined comment, but Guerra is no stranger to daytime as she has made a number of appearances on The Tyra Banks Show to discuss topics including her recent weight loss; she also was developing a daytime talk show with Dick Clark Prods. in the late 1990s.
Guerra is the author of books including "Under Construction: How I've Gained and Lost Millions of Dollars and Hundreds of Pounds" and hosts a show on Air America called Workin' It. As an actress, her credits include PBS' drama series American Family, WB Network's comedy series First Time Out and the feature film Selena.

Twentieth Television, which this season launched the court show Judge Alex to respectable ratings, said Tuesday that it is developing two more first-run court strips targeted to launch in the 2006-07 season. One of the shows features Cristina Perez, who presides over cases on Telemundo's court show La Corte de Familia (Family Court) and is shooting an English-language pilot this month. That project is being developed by syndication veteran Peter Brennan, who launched the court shows Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown and most recently executive produced Twentieth's revival of the newsmagazine A Current Affair. The other show features Lynn Toler, a former Cleveland Heights Municipal Court judge and litigation attorney specializing in civil matters. Her relationship with Twentieth extends to 2001, when she hosted its court show Power of Attorney.
