A multiplatform children's programming partnership between several networks and children's entertainment companies will debut with blocks on three networks in early September. Qubo will premiere Saturday, Sept. 9 on NBC and its sibling network Telemundo, then Friday, Sept. 15 on the i Network. The networks will each air a block of programming from Scholastic (Dragon), Classic Media/Big Idea (VeggieTales, Larry Boy: The Cartoon Adventures and VeggieTales Presents: 3-2-1 Penguins!) and Corus Entertainment's Nelvanna (Babar and Jacob Two-Two). Scholastic, Classic Media/Big Idea and Corus are all partners with NBC Universal and Ion Media Networks on the children's educational television initiative, which was announced in May.

MEXICO CITY -- TV Azteca and leading exhibitor Cinepolis have embarked on a joint distribution venture with Friday's release of animated 3D adventure Piratas en el Pacifico (Pirates in the Pacific), marking the Mexican broadcaster's first foray into the distribution business. Cinepolis has exclusive exhibition rights to the swashbuckling kids film under an agreement with Azteca. Produced by Peru's AlpaMayo Entertainment for just $530,000, Piratas is Latin America's first feature 3D toon. The movie opened nationwide in Mexico on 100 screens. If Piratas performs well, Azteca and Cinepolis will distribute AlpaMayo toon Dragon next year, and the partners will start shopping for other independent pictures as well, network executive Javier Arnau said.
