Ever since Universal and Hasbro made a disastrous first impression with "Battleship," film fans have been quick to shoot down the notion that a board game could work as a movie. However, in an age where studios are desperate for movies with some kind of brand recognition, we've seen a resurgence in attempts. From "Monopoly" and "Hungry Hungry Hippos," to "Uno" and "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots," it seems as though no tabletop pastime is safe from development hell.
These announcements, of course, sound ridiculous at face value. What story is there to be told in a game of "Uno," for example? There isn't one (at least not inherently) because the game has no narrative, but seasoned hobbyists will be quick to inform you that there are countless board games that are brimming with viable story concepts. From short excerpts in manuals to full role-playing experiences, a number of popular...

Where have you gone, American Idol? A nation turns its lonely eyes to … wait, seriously? You’re still on?
Believe it or not, it’s true. Idol has survived long enough to see its 20th birthday. When it debuted on June 11, 2002, the TV singing contest was the blockbuster that promised to define the new pop-culture era. Like the country it’s named after, American Idol is still technically on the map, but it’s staggering in a punch-drunk haze of crushed dreams and betrayed hopes, and the nagging sense that...

Let’s be real: You probably didn’t stay up after the Oscars to watch the final round of American Idol Season 20 auditions. And who could blame you? We’ve replayed that Will Smith/Chris Rock slap so many times in our brain, it’s made us dizzy.
But the episode did, in fact, happen. And although there were no more Platinum Tickets left to dole out, the judges still sent a few more singers through to Hollywood. Could this season’s winner be among them? (Come on, it’s got to be someone we’ve seen so far.) Let...

The CW’s “Riverdale” is one of TV’s most talked about series, but one scene in the Season 2 episode “Chapter Twenty-One: House of the Devil” caught most fans off guard. The Archie Comics adaptation has always pushed the envelope with the edgy reimagining of the classic comic, but a striptease scene involving 16-year-old Betty Cooper has given fans pause.
In “House of the Devil,” Betty (Lili Reinhart) helps her boyfriend Jughead (Cole Sprouse) throw a retirement party for his father, who has decided to leave behind his biker gang, The South Side Serpents. Jughead had previously joined the gang during his father’s stint in prison. Worried about her boyfriend’s safety and wanting to be a part of his world, Betty decides to join the gang herself. Her initiation? A pole dance at the gang’s bar hangout.

Warning: We're about to discuss the most shocking moment from this week's all-new episode of Riverdale! Hop on your bike and speed out of here if you do not want to be spoiled…
Betty stripped down for Jughead… in front of a whole crowd of people, including her mom! Confused? Let us explain.
In this week's all-new episode of Riverdale, "Chapter 21: House of the Devil," Betty was determined to find a way to stay close to Jughead so that she could keep a protective eye over her boyfriend as he wades deeper into those "snake-infested waters."
"So what, you want to be a Serpent?" Toni asked Betty with a hint of sarcasm.
"Let's say Serpent-adjacent," Betty answered seriously. "But yeah, part of his world. This world."
In order to make that happen, Betty discovered that she would need to do the "Serpent dance," which is an "outdated and sexist tradition" in which the wannabe Serpent ladies strip down...

Hong Kong's Oscar foreign-language film selection, Mad World, is the debut directorial feature of 28-year-old Wong Chun, who shot the film in Hong Kong in merely two weeks with a tiny $257,000 budget.
The film was mostly shot on location in a subdivided flat – a type of private rental housing unique to Hong Kong that consists of individual rooms divided by newly-built partitions with each room accommodating an individual, a couple, or even a whole family. The film stars three highly established actors in the leading roles – multi-hyphenate Eric Tsang (Infernal Affairs), Shawn Yue (Love Off the Cuff), and...

21 Best Foreign Language Film submissions and 16 Golden Globe submissions make this festival an important event in Los Angeles.
Now in its third year, The Asian World Film Festival is held at the Arclight in Culver City. With the upcoming worldwide release of the modern creature feature comedy Cute Little Buggers I was lucky enough to spend some time with the film’s director Tony Jopia to talk about his influences, bringing the bunnies to life and having fun on set.
How did first get in to filmmaking?
When I was 9 years old I was asked what I wanted to do at school. I remember seeing Airport 1975 (1974) and then not long after another film called the The Poseidon Adventure (1972). They both kind of set a firm seed in my mind that making moves is what I wanted to do. My father used to wake me up at midnight to watch all the creature feature movies that used to appear late at night. I had school the next day yet he would still wake me up at midnight and say, “Come and watch this”. It was the...

Prince Harry (and his world-famous hugs!) made a room full of kids feel like royalty on Monday during the annual WellChild awards in London.
The prince swapped smiles and embraces as he made his way around the room at the annual event, run by the charity of which he is patron. The emotional ceremony honors the inspiring children who live their lives in the face of serious illness.
“All the amazing things that are going to happen in the future, it’s all going to be . I never want to lose touch with that generation,” Harry told People in a 2015 cover story.

According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, the Days Of Our Lives crew is set to bring back actress Lisa Rinna (above) to reprise her old role as Billie Reed! They say she’s already started taping her episodes and is scheduled to appear on screen in early 2018 sometime. The show is currently keeping her storyline tightly under wraps. So, there’s no official details about what Billie will be doing when she returns to Salem at this time. The last time we saw her in action was way, way back in 2013 when she took off to Europe to pursue a new job opportunity. Lisa Rinna first joined the Days Of Our Lives cast way back in 1992. Then she left about three years later to join the cast of Fox’s hit primetime drama at the time “Melrose Place.” She returned back to the Days Of Our Lives team in 2002. Then left again.

Gothic horror found its way into the American mainstream in the early 1960s courtesy of Roger Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations for American International Pictures. Movies with a tortured Vincent Price brooding around darkened castles, longing for the spirits of some long-lost love were reaching audiences on the same screens as Frankie and Annette and the Beach Party series—and from the same studio, no less. Over in Europe, though, it was a totally different story.
Mario Bava’s The Whip and the Body (La frusta e il corpo) is gothic horror of a very different sort. Yes, there are darkened castles and brooding characters and waves crashing against cliffs and possible madness, but it’s of a much, much more adult nature than its American counterparts. After an affair that led to the suicide of a servant’s daughter, Kurt Menliff (Christopher Lee) returns to his family castle...

Here's a great fan-made trailer that mashes together the film Mad Max: Fury Road with the classic 1963 film It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. The result is It's a Mad Mad Mad Max Fury Road, and it's a lot of fun! I'm a big fan of both films and they are completely different, but they amusingly work so well together. The trailer was created by Monkey Blood, and it uses the footage of Mad World with the audio from Fury Road. ...

Prince Harry showed off his signature charm when he attended the official opening of the Virgin Money London Marathon Expo on Wednesday. The British royal had an adorable photo op with a little girl named Mellisa Howse, who was wearing a cute Wonder Woman shirt, as he helped her cut the red ribbon. He even put his fun uncle skills on full display as he applauded the 5-year-old's efforts. While her father admitted she probably didn't know who Harry was, she definitely looked a little starstruck as he leaned down and held her hand. The sweet outing comes just a few days after his revealing interview with The Telegraph for its Mad World podcast. Aside from opening up about being a godfather, he also talked about the possibility of starting a family of his own, saying that he would "love to have kids." Perhaps his blossoming romance with Meghan Markle is to thank for that.

Prince Harry "shut down all his emotions" when his mother Princess Diana died 20 years ago.
The 32-year-old royal was just 12 years old when he lost his mother in 1997 after she was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France, at the age of 36, and has admitted he almost suffered a "complete breakdown" as he grew up determined not to think about the loss.
He said: "I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12, and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years, has had a quite serious effect on not only my personal life but my work as well.
"I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions when all sorts of grief and sort of lies and misconceptions and everything are coming to you from every angle."

Just back from the 2017 TCM Classic Movie Festival with a few thoughts and thoughts about thoughts. I certainly held my reservations about this year’s edition, and though I ultimately ended up tiring early of flitting about from theater to theater like a mouse in a movie maze (it happens to even the most fanatically devoted of us on occasion, or so I’m told), there were, as always, several things I learned by attending Tcmff 2017 as well.
1) TCM Staffers Are Unfailingly Polite And Helpful
Thankfully I wasn’t witness, as I have been in past years, to any pass holders acting like spoiled children because they had to wait in a long queue or, heaven forbid, because they somehow didn’t get in to one of their preferred screenings. Part of what makes the Tcmff experience as pleasant as it often is can be credited to the tireless work...

I know there are bigger Star Wars fans out there than me, so maybe they could answer this question. When Luke Skywalker meets Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine in the original Star Wars, why doesn't Obi-Wan remember his previous exploits with R2-D2? The real answer may be that George Lucas might not have thought far enough ahead at that point to know he wanted to actually make the prequels one day and that those two would have crossed paths at that time in the story, but does the franchise itself offer a reason? Is it just Obi-Wan's memory going bad?
In any case, YouTuber Jeffim Sheroky has put together an amusing little video that shows R2 having sad flashbacks to all of their adventures together set to Gary Jules' haunting cover of "Mad World."
