- Richard Carpenter: believed that sooner or later something was going to happen with us and we did too, or we wouldn't have stuck with it. But when the Carpenters hit, it actually exploded.
- Maria Galeazzi: I think she had moments of happiness but I think that basically she never really found what she was looking for. I think she was happy with her success, but for some reason she had this internal torment.
- John Adrian: She was just terrified of being fat, which is ridiculous really. But how can you say when you're not another person?
- Karen Carpenter: I was out playing baseball and football and playing with my machine gun, very tomboyish.
- Agnes Carpenter: They'd swing and listen to the music. Richard always wanted to play piano. She took a little bit longer to take an interest. She liked baseball first and then she went into drums. Suddenly she wanted drums.
- Richard Carpenter: They thought, that nothing's ever going to happen, in New Haven, Connecticut. So he got us out.
- Jerry Dunphy: That was home?
- Richard Carpenter: Yeah, that was home.
- Karen Carpenter: Right, right. They wanted to be in a surrounding where it might have happened easier.
