Cologne, Germany -- Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger, Chinese actress Yu Nan ("Tuya's Marriage") and acclaimed Spanish producer Jose Maria Morales ("The Milk of Sorrow," "Lost Embrace") have joined the jury of the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, headed by jury president, director Werner Herzog.
Also on this year's Golden Bear jury is Italian director Francesca Comencini -- whose most recent drama, "White Space," bowed in competition last year in Venice; German actress Cornelia Froboess -- famous for her role in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Veronika Voss"; and Somalian writer Nuruddie Farah, winner of Germany's Neustadt international prize for literature.
With the exception of writer Farah, everyone in the 2010 jury is a Berlin Festival veteran. "The Milk of Sorrow," (2009) "Tuya's Marriage" (2006) and "Veonika Voss" (1982), were all Golden Bear winners. Zellweger came to Berlin for the 2003 festival opener "Chicago" as well as 2004's curtain raiser "Cold Mountain," for the role that later won her an Academy Award.

Next time you go to the grocery store imagine you are in a retail wilderness--let’s call it the Supermarket Serengeti. Its a lush habitat of overlapping ecosystems each populated with brands, like species, trying to survive and perpetuate their kind into the future where success is measured with sale figures.
On the shelf, the way that established brands enable product line extensions is analogous to the natural laws that govern parental invest in the survivability of their children. Visually, the parent or sibling brand bestows favor and influence upon its fledgling product lines. Simply stated, children would look most like their parents while cousins, who have fewer functional similarities, would naturally receive less investment from their aunt and uncles.
The sharing of visual equities should be a proud demonstration of brand paternity. Some brands effectively hand out cigars while others seem to invest nothing more than a birthmark and...

Robert here, noticing that the Venice Film Festival announced the lineup for it's 66th installment on Thursday. Here's the in-competition list, with a few bits I managed to find about each film.
Baaria (Opening Film) dir. Giuseppe Tornatore
The director of Cinema Paradiso gives us a three-generation spanning epic about his Italian hometown.
Soul Kitchen dir. Fatih Akin (pictured)
Akin directed the terrific Head-On and The Edge of Heaven (if you haven't seen either or both, do now). He re teams with Birol Unel from Head-On for a comedy about culture and gender clash.
La Doppia Ora dir. Giuseppe Capotondi
It's been tough finding information on this as Venice's website (nor IMDb) has much at the moment. I can tell tell you is that it's a freshman effort, it's Italian, and it's fun to say... La Doppio Ora!
Yi ngoi (Accident) dir. Cheang Pou-Soi
A Hong Kong crime film about...

A senior lawmaker - Rep. John Dingell, Chairman of the House of Representatives House Energy and Commerce Committee - added to the chorus of "White Space" protests led by broadcasters on Friday. Mr. Dingell sent a list of questions to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin asking the agency to identify devices that are causing interference to broadcasters using the band for unlicensed broadband services. The FCC is due to vote on the proposal to open up the spectrum on Nov. 4, the day America votes for its next president.
