A smart, assured and involving short
A student film that is polished and promises better things to come from the writer/director. Lots of details, nice moments and great economy in storytelling. Great use of music, too. See it where you can.
If you've seen "Still Life", you'll see a leap in skill and progress as a filmmaker. What's interesting is how Ms. Wang has chosen to explore the theme of family and connection through both these films. Different in tone and approach, they nonetheless make an interesting point about the state of the nuclear family today, in the face of modern life and its personal challenges to individuals. I'm hoping to see more of her films in the future.
