I got the whole season collection from the library, watched a couple episodes, and it wasn't bad. Soul Mirror is about a little girl Tsubasa who was very shy in school. The episode is about Tsubasa getting a strange female twin who came out of nowhere so the twin is a very rare twin. Hikaru finds out that Tsubasa had no courage and had to teach her how to be more courageous in life so that Tsubasa can be more appeased in life. Winged Hearts is about Tsubasa caring about her new sister even more and then the two familiar females starts making new friends and that cheered Tsubasa up to be as happy as Hikaru was. Tsubasa also made a friend named Sho the one that was talking about dreaming about flying. I haven't watched Valient duet yet but soon i will, so far this is a very cute and enjoyable show. I think little secret is about Tsubasa caring about her friend Sho like more than everyone else and Sho became like her best friend ever and she enjoyed herself and the friendship has cheered up her day. She's kinda acting like she's her boyfriend though. Forever close is sort of like a kind of sad and emotional story. Sho Tsubasa's best friend suddenly dies and left Tsubasa downright miserable and very upset but she and Hikaru learns how to cheer up though but then....... Memories remain is about kinda sad at the end of episode 13 when Hikaru had to go because she was created so she couldn't last very long with Tsubasa so sadly, it was time for Hikaru to pass on to a better life which left Tsubasa filled with sorrow, grief, heartbroken and despair. SO she was likely more sad than when her best friend died. It was a very cute show, nicely drawn characters, art and good music and that kinda entertained me. My favorite character is Hikaru because she was a very active and joyous little kid. I'm so sorry she had to go but Overall: Great Show.

Figure 17

This anime, compared to others I've watched, ROCKS! Not because it was a sci-fi anime (well not just that, anyway)also because there's drama, too. The main character, Tsubasa has a lot of qualities that I find in myself. In the first episode she's shy, lacks self esteem, and doesn't really talk to the other kids in her new school, but all that changes when she meets an alien man named D.D. Unfortanately when she encounters the mysterious guy, Tsubasa is attacked by a monster called a Maguar. Before she's killed however, a little green tube (called a ribbers)fuses with her body to create a suit to protect her. Inside the suit, which is later called Figure 17 (hence the title), Tsubasa hears another girl's voice that guides her in defeating the monster and saving. Tsubasa defeats the monster and goes back to her normal state, yet the ribbers becomes a mirror image of herself and calls herself Hikaru.

Now the world is in the hands of these two until backup from D.D.'s home planet comes to aid in the destruction of the Maguar. Of course while saving the world, Hikaru teaches Tsubasa the strength to believe in herself and get over her shyness. Also many of the people in Hikkaido believe they're twins. If you watch this anime, you'll see that most of it isn't all fun and games, you'll cry when you see how much many of the characters are like you. Please watch it!

Underrated Heart Tugger

Warning: Spoilers
I don't really watch anime nowadays. I sort of grew out of it.

But this one is different. I remember seeing a full episode preview a long time ago and it captured my interest. The first episode, while diving into SCIFI elements in the end, had great drama. Rarely does something captivate you with its characters and sympathetic moments without looking really dumb and cheesy. Let alone halfway into the first episode! Yet this one pulls it off.

Tsubasa is a socially awkward girl who lost her mother at a very young age. Emotionally fragile, she blames herself and as a result loses all self confidence. Her dad, a lifelong aspiring baker, decides to move to another town to pursuit that dream. Tsubasa then leaves her familiar hometown to a very unfamiliar place, things will get worse she assumes.

She's only half right. At least at first. While things go bad at school, she wanders around the local forest at night and...pretty much lands in the middle of an alien battle near the end of the episode. What happens is that a copy, called a Figure which is made out of metallic goo, encases her body and she becomes one of those "Pretty Solider" characters in alien form. Typically, a Figure goes back to its original form once its done fighting...however this one does not. Enter Hikaru. Hikaru is her polar opposite in personality. She is out going, friendly, very hungry, and has a confidence meter off the roof! That is the only thing that's different about them (well, besides the pony tail on Hikaru). On the outside, they look like identical twins.

This is where the episode ends and the series really begins. It's really 70% human "day to day life" drama and 30% SCIFI action/alien plot. To be honest, I would give this a perfect 10 if the alien part of the anime was as well developed as the human drama. The SCIFI stuff is cliché anime fare, complete with laser blasts and dramatic punching and kicking. Most other anime i've seen with drama are pretty good, but never did any of those make me almost want to weep for any of the characters. The only other one I can think of is the brilliant "Grave of the Fireflies", which has about the same effect but with more powerful imagery (plus its based on historic fact). You'll yearn for less SCIFI when it comes on in favor for more character growth, which is the series' strongest point.

I won't spoil it any further but there are gonna be moments where you'll feel real bad for the main character. Her character is simple yet very likable. You want her to snap out of her introvert nature and be more outgoing, with Hikaru cheering her on and acting as her personal cheerleader (and real time body guard). If you let it get to you, it will. And you'll too will be glad you got yourself into something as fantastic as this.
