Sex & Nudity

  • Full frontal (animated) nudity is shown in several episodes throughout the show. The moments of nudity are muted by context and lack of visual details.
  • Many episodes in the final season focus on rape and sexual assault, including towards minors.
  • It is shown in Season 3 that Dr. Potterswheel is sadistic as he gets sexual gratification from inspecting Bloberta's mutilated vagina and goads her to go further with it, which she does. When she overcomes this bout of depression and stops mutilating herself, he immediately loses interest in her.
  • The show contains from Moderate to Severe sexual innuendo. The sexual content is infrequent until the episode "God's Chef"; from there, the content slowly becomes more suggestive for the later episodes, especially in Season 3. The show deals with various strong adult themes including masturbation, homosexuality, bisexuality, brief jokes about prostitution, adultery, etc.
  • It is shown early on that Orel's father, Clay, is having an affair with Coach Stopframe. The relationship is more about their suppressed desires than their acting upon them.

Violence & Gore

  • While most violence in the first season is slapstick and humorous, the second and third season include depictions of strong violence, including sexual violence. Although it mostly takes place offscreen, it could still be considered disturbing to many viewers.
  • There is a scene in an episode where Orel is in a bath tub filled to the brim with blood.

Profanity

  • "Retarded" is said in season 2.
  • The words "bastard" and "whore" have been used various times, but as with the word "hell", have been used in a logical context. One episode features Orel's father giving the finger.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The misuse of alcohol and drugs are never shown in a positive light, and the dangerous effects of these substances are shown.
  • Orel's father is seen drinking in every episode, and is seen drunk in a few of the later episodes. Although this is done for comic effect in the first season, it becomes more realistic and disturbing in the later seasons.
  • Orel smokes a considerable amount of crack/cocaine in the episode Charity; played for comedy, as Orel does not realize the extent of his drug usage.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is one of the darkest, most mature adult animated shows out there.
  • While starting out as a satirical comedy, it continues to become darker and darker with each passing season, slowly becoming a heavy drama with fairly adult themes.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A bloody coat hanger is briefly shown, implying that the woman in the scene used it to abort a fetus after being raped.
  • Contains very infrequent strong violence. The episode "Innocence" contains a scene where Orel convinces his friends to help him fill a bath with their blood so he can 'bathe in it and stay young'. This is shown very briefly, but is quite remarkable. There's also a scene in the episode "Nature Part 2" where, in a drunken rage, Orel's father shoots him.

Profanity

  • In the episode "Courtship", the word 'bitch' was said.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the episode "Nature Part 2", Clay shoots Orel's leg. He proceeds to blame him for getting in the way. When Orel tells Clay that he has rubbing alcohol in the medkit, Clay drinks the entire bottle in front of Orel before falling asleep. At night, he is attacked by a bear, which Orel hesitantly shoots.
  • In almost every episode,Clay beats Orel with his belt but it is usually offscreen. In the episode "Grounded", It shows Orel being beaten by Clay.
  • The themes can be very dark and the way which some religious subjects are handled can be intense. It's mostly more intense than it is frightening, but the scene where Orel's father yells at his son out in the forest can be very creepy, even for older viewers. The show deals additionally with very heavy adult themes throughout and it is intended for a mature, adult audience only. Many scenes can shock and are intended to offend.
