As a lifelong fan of the original Creepshow—one of the first R-rated horror movies I ever saw as a kid and still my favorite horror anthology of all-time—it has taken me years to come to terms with the fact that Creepshow 2 is not bad. In fact, it’s quite good at times. But because it failed to capture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of the first film (I mean, you had George A. Romero, Stephen King, and Tom Savini all working at their peaks), I have always ignored the fact that there’s a lot to like in Creepshow 2, even if it does fall short of its predecessor’s greatness. Thankfully, Arrow’s new special edition Blu-ray helped put me in my place.
Based on three more stories by King, Creepshow 2 finds original director Romero trading in the director’s chair for screenwriting duties. Calling the shots...

The flavor of bile is unmistakable. There just isn’t anything that tastes quite like it. And you know it when it comes on: The belly rumbles, the esophagus lurches within, and you battle back the slimy liquid that threatens to spew forth from your lips.
It’s a nasty experience. We all hate that sensation so we’re taking measures at Dread Central to help prevent such a situation from occurring.
See, there are horror sequels out there that are so horrifically bad they somehow trigger something in our internal systems... and the belly begins to rumble. We wish you no stomach troubles here, and we certainly wish the taste of bile on no man or woman. So we’re going to provide you with a list of sequels to avoid at all costs because if you check these out, you’ll be searching for the toothbrush in no time!

In early 2012, I saw the trailer for a campy movie called You Can’t Kill Stephen King about a group of young people vacationing near the author’s summer home who get killed off one at a time. The trailer promises a horror movie that breaks all the rules…by not breaking any. The project is described in tongue-in-cheek fashion: six stereotypical characters with weak story arcs, a town full of overacting antagonists, low-budget gratuitous violence and cheesy King references.
The nucleus of the story was written several years ago by Monroe Mann—an alumnus of the Fryeburg Academy in western Maine, whose staff was also involved in the production—and stand-up comedian Ronnie Khalil while they were vacationing in the lake house ultimately used in the film. Co-writer Bob Madia helped complete the script—he contributed much of the King lore and references. Mann and Khalil co-produced and team-directed with cinematographer Jorge Valdés-Iga,...

One of the big sources of excitement within the horror community these last couple weeks has been the persistent rumors of a long-awaited sequel to Beetlejuice, with both Michael Keaton and Winona Rider expressing their interest in being a part of the ghost with the most’s return to the big screen. Will it ever actually happen? Only time will tell. But if it does, it’ll be a follow-up over 25 years in the making – a long time to wait for a sequel, don’t ya think?!
Well, it wouldn’t be the first time us horror fans have had to wait a couple decades for a sequel. In fact, we’ve waited a whole lot longer than that. Just how long, you ask? Let’s take a look at the ten horror sequels that took longer than any others to find their way into our lives!

Actress Elina Madison knows a good scream when she hears one. She's a queen of modern day horror flicks and has appeared in such classics as Curse of the Forty-Niner (2002), Creepshow III (2006), Petrified (2006) and a film she co-produced and starred in called Corporate Cut Throat Massacre (2009). In addition to her penchant for peril, Elina has appeared in various other projects in both television and film. She worked with director David Lynch in the 2001 psychological thriller Mulholland Drive (2001) and with Tom Hanks in the comedy/drama/musical hit That Thing You Do (1996). As a co-star in the award winning feature film Barracuda and the lead heroin (Minty) in the drama Minty: The Assassin (2009), Elina has also taken the plunge into the deep character-driven waters of independent films. Essentially, this versatile actress has played everything from an abused housewife to a sexy meter-maid and is thoroughly enjoying the diversity of a multi-genre'd career.

It's 25 years since Creepshow 2 drew a line under a brief run of Stephen King portmanteau movies (which also included Creepshow and Cat's Eye; there was a Creepshow 3 in 2006, but King wasn't involved). A new anthology of movie-ised King short stories is now on the way though, courtesy of writer/director Mark Pavia.Pavia has King previous, having directed The Night Flier, starring Miguel Ferrer, back in 1995. Since then he's been battling through development hell on any number of projects: for a time he was attached to the remakes both of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn Of The Dead, and he wrote an early treatment of Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train. He also collaborated with King on a Night Flier sequel in 2005, but while the film never happened, the experience was clearly a happy one, leading to this new project, which has King's involvement."Steve agreed to the film right away,...

It’s so easy to write off a villain as a monster or as the boogyman that doesn’t have any emotions. Maybe we see these malefactors as a someone who doesn’t even have the right to feel. Sociopaths are easy to hate or brush off as you close your eyes after a night filled with cold-blooded slasher films.

The Film:
Despite the cliched title, a George A. Romero-produced, sponsored, or whatever anthology film should have gave horror fans some much-needed goosebumps, yet I doubt many horror fans have even heard of this collection, prior to clicking on my review. That’s just part of George A. Romero presents Deadtime Stories, Volume 1‘s issues. Most of what was originally made for Volume 1 doesn’t appear, as planned back in 2009, yet that little trivia matters not. The three shorts here, have little bite, sorely aping the good zombie man’s name for nothing more than marketability.
Acting like any other anthology film, we get our host who introduces us to the upcoming segment, followed by a few quips at the end, and our host here is obviously George A. Romero. He looks like he’s having fun, something that doesn’t translate into the shorts or the audience. Valley...

Anthologies were a dime a dozen in the 1980′s. Whether is was smaller mediums like television [Amazing Stories, Monsters] to theatrical flicks [Cat's Eye, Deadtime Stories], the idea of several mini-films for the price of one was something horror fans were craving, although the general public could care less, which would explain why there has never been a box-office smash from the configuration.
In 1982, best-selling author Stephen King and zombie guru George A. Romero teamed up for their love letter to EC Comics’ Tales from the Crypt with the impeccable Creepshow. What they pulled off is quite remarkable considering the biggest drawback of the vignette format is you usually have a few stinker segments to go with the winners; it is the law of averages. This was not the case here as Romero, working from King’s screenplay, weaved together ordinary situations and gave them an ironic and gruesome twist. Unfortunately, at the time, Creepshow was buried...

If there's one film company out there whom we take an extreme amount of issue with, it is James Glenn Dudelson and Ana Clavell's Taurus Entertainment. The reason is because the duo take properties they ended up owning through some minor miracle and then give them horrendous in-name-only sequels to fool fans into watching and possibly buying. They're back and ready to do more damage.
As if their laughable bad sequels Day of the Dead 2: Contagium) (review here) (btw, it's several years later and "Contagium" is still not a word) and Creepshow 3 (review here) were not enough of a piss poor insult, they're ready to screw with fans yet again.

Taurus Entertainment's crimes against the universe have, thankfully, been minimal and baffling but in their time on the genre scene they gave us Day of the Dead 2: Contagion and Creepshow 3 , exploiting the rights they own to George Romero's previous efforts. It's no secret Taurus is considering a redo of Knightriders . Another remake of Day of the Dead ? Also possible. Within a Variety story about 3D at Cannes came this nugget: Producer James Dudelson of horror-focused Taurus Entertainment, is currently producing a remake of George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead" in 3D and said many buyers have requested 3D conversions of classic 2D movies because "3D works well for certain genres, like horror." But, he cautioned, "You can't just slap a 3D...

Despite my lifelong affection for short stories when they're in book form, I've never been truly satisfied with the cinematic / televsion equivalent. For every Dead of Night, Asylum, or Creepshow, there are three movies like Deadtime Stories, Campfire Tales, and (ugh) Creepshow 3. When you switch over to the TV side of the equation, you've got your Twilight Zone, your Outer Limits, and the better part of HBO's Tales from the Crypt. Unfortunately you also have the Friday the 13th series, the nearly unwatchable Freddy's Nightmares ... and lots of stuff in between. If it's true that an anthology series is only as good as its best episode, then there's certainly some fun to be had with Masters of Horror, Fear...

Remember how in those old movies Castle Frankenstein would lay empty and unused for years between sequels? Eventually the villagers would grow angry, feeling that nightmarish structure was a constant reminder of the evil Frankenstein and his creature had inflicted upon their community -- plus it was blocking satellite reception. Armed with the memories of their murdered loved ones and the knowledge that The Super Bowl was just weeks away, the villagers would take torch in hand and burn that sumbitch to the ground.
By the same token, I can't imagine why Creepshow III still has a web presence. Like Castle Frankenstein, Creepshow III's website still crouches out there like a bloated spider on the world wide web, taunting me with the pain it has caused me. This is an utterly unwatchable horror anthology that fails on many levels and really has nothing to do with the first two Creepshow films.

It’s not often I’ll review and Indy film, but then it isn’t often I’m contacted by a talented young Actress and Producer from America and air-mailed a copy of one of her own masterpieces.
April Wade (The Thing in The Corner, Creepshow III, Women on Top Productions) stars in and produces Junction, a thriller described as “Donny Darko” meets “Ghost World” and directed by Neal Fradsham.
Junction speaks to the Y-Generation who has survived the single-family phenomenon and the battle with an ever-growing feeling of medicated isolation. Silhouetted against a world of expanding globalization and shrinking personal human interaction, Michaela, searches for self-actualization - and her splintered family. Do you want to face the truth? Or, do you want to destroy it?
The formula for Junction seemed perfect on paper I’m sure, the story is without a doubt original in its subjects – voyeurism, incest and...

Creepshow, the 1982 horror anthology movie written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero, is getting the remake treatment. Warner Bros. Pictures is developing the remake, which will be produced by Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment along with Taka Ichise of OZ LA and Tony Ludwig. James Dudelson, the original rights holder, also is attached to produce. Although in the original anthology the stories -- which were written in the old 1950s EC Comics style -- were unconnected, the plan is to structure the new movie a la Go, where individual stories will have interconnected characters and situations.
