Butterfly Effect for Kids
jmbwithcats1 February 2008
Always Will is a love story first and foremost, but much more.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the darkness that of The Butterfly Effect. It's refreshing to see a new slant on changing the past more along the lines of Groundhog Day with Bill Murrey.

The movie is low budget, but with a good plot line and that always makes up for low budget. The acting is also enjoyable, the characters have a simple honest chemistry that just works.

A mother who loves him, a dad who is gone, probably died, and a step dad who is a total horses ass. With a young life full of regrets, missed opportunities, and hopelessness, but with a chance to change all that.

Of course if you think too deeply about it you realize if he did change the past how could he remember he ever had the black eye in the first place? Just as in The Butterfly Effect the inmate wouldn't have noticed anything different about Kutcher's hands.

The only drawback is they made the step dad a bit too mean spirited and slobbish, it was a farce to the point that it is completely incomprehensible why the mother is with him in the first place.

Thus creating characters that are too superficial.

Courting the girl ala Groundhog Day was cute though. The little kindnesses really make you relate on a personal level which really builds a refreshing story.

But the story really gets going when you realize how the opportunities he's giving to himself are taking those opportunities away from others, creating even worse problems than he began with.

The whole movie is obvious from the start where it will end and how, but it's still enjoyable getting there.

It's an independent film, so keep that in mind
miaaacameron12 August 2019
I JUST got done watching this movie (the end credits are rolling as I write this) and I have to say, I thought it was quite cute and clever. It is an independent film, so with that, the quality of the film is less of a movie movie and more of a home movie but that's what I find appealing about independent films so it's all fine and dandy. Thing that impressed me the most were the shots, they were honestly great. The actors/acting could've used improvement but they were quite alright - yes, there is some emotion lacking in the way that they say their lines, but there's still enough emotion from everything in the film to keep you with the characters and with the story. Cringey at times, and moments of occurrences that are questionable but in a comedic way that makes you giggle at how silly a line is or the way that something is being portrayed. Overall though, a cute film. For an independent movie that has a set budget and involves mainly kids and young people as the actors, the story is good. Give it a shot, you might like it!

interesting plot, needed a lot more

Without comparing this too much to the first Butterfly Effect, the storyline was what made me watch this time waster. Always will is about as good as the 2nd Butterfly Effect.

The acting in Always will was passable at best, Baglini didn't seem to do anything with his lines. Nor did any of the other actors.

A dug up capsule of students school items is the ridiculous item that allows Will to travel to times in the past and change them. In The B E Kutcher remembers parts in the past that have been blocked because they are memories best forgotten, with more tragic consequences when the events are changed.

The storyline of Always Will is interesting, the movie needed decent acting and a better idea of how he could change his life. See Back to the Future or any number of time travel movies for something better.

it's "Always Will", but barely watchable
mham-23 April 2008
I rented it on a whim from the 99cents section at my local blockbuster. It's premise sounded cute and I like to take chances on independent films. I'm still not sure how this film found it's way to my local Blockbuster. The actors were just as good as middle school children in a local theater production. In others words you could see them trying to act and failing and there is no chemistry between any of them. The only redeeming quality of the film is the songs used through out the film. I could go on about the quality of the cinematography, but I will not. I think if you still want to see it after hearing how bad the acting is, then it's your time and your money to wasted. Don't say no one warned you.

I loved this film
FFindie19 July 2007
I saw "Always Will" at Dances with Films, where it won the audience award. The story was very clever and I could not believe that this was made on a shoestring budget by an independent filmmaker. It honestly looked more like a studio film. I laughed out loud, and was surprised by a little twist when Will decides to return to when he dug up the relic. The only fault I found was the Dad character. The actor played the character a little one dimensional, but since it is a comedy it still works. I loved that I could take my kids, when most festivals (unless they are "family" festivals" show the most outrageous films they can find.) I hope to see this in theaters, it's that good.

Family Friendly, Clean & Enjoyable

I started to watch this movie, then decided to view the rating. I am glad I didn't read the rating before I started to watch it, as I might not have watched this good movie! I found many flaws, but I will not disclose them, so I don't give you any spoilers. No sex or profanity, so if you are looking for a movie of that sort, you won't find it here. However, if you want to see a very good movie (almost make you cry), then here is the one!

Best flick I've ever seen that feels real, from elementary to high school.

Truly Brilliant
ebsmith501717 June 2014
Brilliant acting by a young actor, Andrew Baglini. He had an amazing charm on camera and really related well to the audience. The plot was very innovative, so innovative that Butterfly Effect stole the same premise and just spent more money on it. I wish this would have had the financial backing to advertise as heavily as Butterfly Effect or at least approach them in civil court to prove their plot was first! Particularly impressive was Andrew Baglini, as mention, and he really played well off of fellow actor John Schmidt. It's neat to think that the majority of the movie was filmed right in the Philadelphia suburbs! I highly recommend watching this movie immediately!

great family film
codemanjones18 January 2010
it is a knock-off of butterfly effect, and the acting is sub-par. But keep in mind this is aimed towards kids, who won't typically care about acting.

BUT, very enjoyable storyline, many of the scenes playing right out of your half-forgotten memories. Audio track feels thin at times (some scenes are not scored), but the indie-sounding songs are fantastic.

Overall, had a great underdog feel that has you rooting for the side of good, and lets you forgive the failures in the film's production.

P.S. the hilarious DVD menu alone was worth the $1 rental for me!

rent it, even if it's just for you

Extremely charming movie
bgaiv24 June 2020
I'm bumping it up on number because it's very independent and amazing what they pulled off.

It is very charming! The lead is great, but beyond that, it really wakes up high school and elementary memories more than any other movie I've seen.

There are weaknesses, like they keep screwing up the 180, and a really bad cut late in the movie, plus the foster father seems like he's acting in a different movie.

But still, it's very worth it for what it pulls off!

Top tier cast
joeabate-7438418 July 2022
I recently found this film at the referral of a close friend. I was weary at first, but wow! The casting by the director brought this to the next level. The time capsule scene in the beginning was well above industry standard. This is going to have to be added to my yearly watch party at vacation with the timely classic Full Metal Jacket! Thank you Michael for your direction.
