Some people may like it

Over the years I say that the taste of people have changed. Of course that also depends on where you live. What I'm trying to say is that you probably will agree that entertainment got cheaper, more violent and more sexual.

Jensen is an example of that change in taste.

If I could describe it I would call the show: cheap and annoying.

Why do I still watch it sometimes? Well that's because people nowadays just like to watch things that are made for the simple minded. Even though I find it cheap and annoying it secretly is a bit funny.

Jensen the host, he keeps making fun of other people. His lame jokes are brought to you in a funny way. It doesn't require your mind to do any thinking at all.

It's good we have shows like those. The simple-minded people want to get entertained. Watching CSI all the time makes you stressed. Oprah is getting a bit old fashioned. So try Jensen.

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

:: LAUGH OR DIE

Jensen! is a show which is, simply put, simple-minded comedy in a Daily Show sort of fashion. Structured as it is, Jensen usually divides his show into two parts: an 'overwhelming' entrance as himself as the show host, where he usually pretends to calm the audience down because they are way too enthusiastic. If you look carefully, producers at the side try to make the audience go wild by sign language for 'this is the time you need to applaud'.

With my studio experience, it wouldn't surprise me if, just like other television shows, they pre-recorded the laughs. The recording of the laughs can be divided into three parts: a little laughing, lots of laughing, and laughing your ass off. This gets carefully mixed in between the shows, which gives you the impression that all jokes that are made are indeed funny.

:: DAILY NEWS

This is followed by some lame jokes, usually based on news and popular affairs. Jensen his daily news usually consists of badly edited videos of other television show and extremely poor quality videos ripped off of YouTube. This is amateuristic at most.

:: INTERVIEWS AND GUESTS

Jensen then fills his time with interviews, where it seems he tries to be as little compassionate as possible. On top of this, lame sex jokes about the length of his penis, the amount of women he has slept with, kinky stuff that goes on in the backstage room, are most likely to pop up every once in a while. As far as the guests are concerned, they vary from international stars to temporary famous people, such as the "Vegan Streaker", Dutch Idol candidates, "Boer Zoekt Vrouw"-candidates and in some cases politicians. Due to the fact the Dutch show-business is not comparable to that of the United States, the supply of truly interesting people is limited. This combined with the size of the country, the influence it has on political scale and the rather boring political situation in the country itself, makes the interviews rather dull.

In the situation where there is an actual celebrity, Jensen tends to ask rather simple questions, rather than having an in-depth interview. Unlike a normal interviewer, Jensen is quite politically incorrect. This could be seen as a definitive plus. Dutch TV tends to be rather conservative, influenced by religion and prudish. Jensen is none of that - however, he crosses the lines sometimes.

:: LIVE MUSIC

Artists that coincidentally perform on the show, usually lipsynch. A good reason for this may be that the studio sound was never meant to be used as an artists audio-decor. That might very well be. If artists really play live though, the act itself is worthless. Camera positions are poor, sound quality usually hits the extreme low points. Not to mention that the people who actually do sing live, are parodies (Dutch Idols rejects, for instance) or one hit wonders.

:: GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE SHOW + Very easy to watch, no brain activity involved + Progressive as opposed to the quite conservative Dutch television + Great guests coincidentally + The disappearance of the 'co-host' (I'd rather call him part of the studio decor) Jan Papparazi

:: BAD THINGS ABOUT THE SHOW - Repetitive jokes - Harsh language - No respect for people with disabilities - Prerecorded laughs - Uninteresting guests most of the time - Poor artists

lame talkshow, recycled guests, cheap comedy..
BdR767 May 2007
"Jensen!" is a Dutch late night talkshow modeled after American shows like "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" or "Late Show with David Letterman". It starts with an opening monologue, some comedy bits and then one or two guests. While the American talkshows can be entertaining and glamorous, Jensen is just cheap and lame.

The first problem with Jensen is the host, Robert Jensen. In American talkshows the host is usually a stand-up comedian, like Conan O'Brien or David Letterman, who know how to entertain and really put on a show. Robert Jensen is nothing like that, he became famous by harassing dutch celebrities and making prank phone calls on his radioshow. He's uncharismatic, laughs at his own jokes, makes inappropriately lewd comments and takes cheap shots at his guests.

The second problem is the guests. Occasionally there will be an interesting or famous person, but most of the time the guest's name sounds only vaguely familiar. Some people who appear very frequently are Herman (Dutch Idols reject), Kelly (transvestite from the third Dutch Big Brother series), Kim Holland (Dutch Porn star), all not very classy to say the least. The Netherlands is a small country and there simply aren't enough celebrities to fill five shows a week. Sometimes a guest has clearly got nothing interesting to say at all, for example some Britney-Spears-fan who shaved her head just like Britney, Jensen spent about 10 minutes on her..

Another problem is the comedy. The quality isn't very good to put it mildly. For example, they show bloopers from live gameshows (belspelletjes) and pictures or movie clips copied from the internet (you know, those e-mails you sometimes get from friends or colleagues), which I think is really cheap. Whenever they do create something original, it's usually footage from a news item with added sound effects or stretched faces or something like that.

In short, this is an awful talkshow, how anyone can find this garbage entertaining is beyond me.

No one likes him!

Jensen is a talk show hosted by a rotund monkey, the producers probably found in the streets of Amsterdam. He laughs all the time, about his own jokes. He doesn't take the time to read about his up coming guests and asks stupid questions, and in the end it's all about sex. I would like to make clear that the only people in Holland who watch that show have an IQ of 35. Unfortunately that's still about 5% of our population... He is ridiculed constantly, by the Dutch! Sure, it was tear-jerking to see him interview intelligent or heroic people with idiotic questions. But don't EVER think he is something the Dutch all look up to, or love and think is funny, because we don't! so don't compare him to the standard of our entire nation, just to the idiots!

Robert Jensen is a patronising idiot
BrianSewell1 June 2007
The man firmly belongs on a 1980s prank radio show, I doubt it but I hope he reads this. 'In the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is king'' and this is so true, the quality of Dutch TV is so poor so it is no wonder that the Dutch rave about this inept imbecile. I had the gross misfortune to see this fool patronising two Primordial Dwarfs, it was so sickening to watch this man asking stupid questions to these brave people. The name ''lul'' is Dutch insult (look it up if you must) and this firmly applies to this man, he has the interviewing technique of a horny male rhino chasing a female. He must go home at night, check his bank balance and and widen his eyes in disbelief. Too many people rage on about these instant fame seekers (Idols, Fame Academy, X factor) and how they should work to get to the top, well Jensen has had years to perfect his profession, but he is still a useless figure head for the inept. Get him off TV for the sake of the few intellectuals that scan the Dutch channels. You can see it on the faces of his International guests, they think to themselves ''is he the best that this land has to offer''? He thinks, as do his many viewers, that the guests are worried that he may pull one of his totally non funny pranks, it's not that, they just think he is a total fool. Dutch people please please please, stop trying to be like other people of the world and just try to be yourselves, you cannot rap, you are musically bereft and your TV sucks donkey do and you certainly cannot do American style talk shows, there is only one thing you can compare Jensen to, it's inanimate, it smells and it comes out of the non talking end of a bull.

ooohhhh Robert!!!
Nicelodeon27 July 2006
I was pleased to hear there was going to be a Talkshow with Robert and Jan back in 2002. Before that they were radio DJ's in the mornings for the same company that brings us the Talkshow Jensen.

Most of the time before going to school the radio was my friend and Jensen in the morning was I think the only radio program I wanted to listen and have a laugh. Prank calls to famous Dutch people, top class jokes, games, music, interviews, you name it, it had it all and gave the listeners a great morning before they start the day.

They combine being on the radio and doing their Talkshow. But I enjoy the Talkshow slightly more. I love the expressions on their faces when they make jokes, fun of people or the guests that appear on their fantastic Talkshow. They start the show with "the Breaking News" mostly hilarious news that are real but slightly changed to make it funny and they end their show with a nice song from a band or singer. The guests that appear on Jensen are mostly terrified knowing Jensen and his jokes towards famous people and always talk about topics the guests usually don't want to talk about. But at the end we all can enjoy it, it's fun, fresh, addicted and they are not planning to stop anytime soon.

Some memorable shows from the last 2 years are those with Herman Berghuis(Dutch Idols 2 and 3) Kelly van der Veer(Dutch Big Brother 3) and Bassie(Bassie and Adriaan, kids show)

*Robert Jensen is comparable with Howard Stern and David Letterman along with his *prank calling* hypocritical but funny friend Jan.

This show shouldn't even be on IMDb, it's that bad.
hok_herman22 November 2007
I can't believe there are people that rate this show higher than a 4.

It's the worst thing on Dutch television ever. Mr. Jensen has to be the most obnoxious person in the Netherlands, an he's the host. So the program isn't watchable. There are a lot of mediocre shows on TV here, I can live with that, but "Jensen!" has to be the lowest in what is already a pretty low standard. It's a lame attempt to copy the late night shows that are so popular in other countries. However they failed to put in humor and forgot about the fact that people don't like throwing up after watching two minutes of horrible television like this.

Unfortunately Dutch television has a history of selecting awful hosts for shows like this, but Mr. Jensen sets another low, and that's why this show deserves the lowest of ratings.

Jensen is losing his magic
Zwaffel24 December 2007
First, let me say something about the popular myth that only people with a low IQ watch this show. A poll by our university, concerning humor, pointed out that about 30% of my fellow students of EE (Eindhoven) loves this show's humor. One's sense of humor is affected by their environment and people around them, not with how well educated they are. I think this show, though, is an example of what humor has become these days (in the Netherlands). I therefore also think that adults (25+) will less likely like this show compared to adolescents (15+). In case you think this is rubbish, I suggest you check out the audience (and yes, adults ARE allowed to come to the show too, I can tell because I've been there once). This show is meant for a relative young viewer like myself (17). I'm one of the 'Hans Teeuwen'/'Ab Normaal' kind of people.

But yes, I agree that his humor can be classed as a combination of cheap/sexual jokes. But I do not get what's wrong with that. If people find it funny and enjoy it, what's the problem? If it really was annoying and no one would watch it, it would be cancelled due to low ratings.

The problem I do have with his humor is that it repeats itself a lot. This might sometimes be funny but most of the time.. it isn't. For example when the guests uses a sophisticated word, Jensen will most likely respond with 'Is that some kind of STD?', or he will answer with "Ohh man I just got an orgasm" after a long applause. His book of humor is limited to 10 pages.

I think the decision of going daily was the worst decision ever made, since it used to be once a week. Going daily did result, as expected, in a loss of the show's quality, special guests and ratings. I watch it about 2 or 3 times a week now. In the past though, I wouldn't want to miss a single episode (and also listened radio before that).

7/10, for the fact it is still funny, although the show is slowly but surely losing its magic.

comment on Brian Sewell
mirjamvandalen17 January 2008
I think the Dutch people are very down to earth and thank god we do not suffer from having a freaking big ego like Brian Sewell who wrote the comment above. Let me guess, you're American... Yeah, yeah, we know that everybody in the USA is f***king better and everything is f***king bigger than the rest of the world, so let alone the Netherlands. Not everybody enjoys the Jensen show and he's not pretending to be like your precious American talk show hosts (barf) but if you don't like it, just don't watch it and that also goes for the rest of the Dutch TV as well as the Dutch radio! There's an on/off button on a TV or radio for a reason.... In fact, why don't you just leave the country all together if all you can do is claim that the Dutch are inferior and cannot do anything? There is absolutely no reason to say that we have to try and stay ourselves because we do NOT pretend to be someone we are not! So stop insulting the people of the country that you are living in at the moment and look at your own pathetic country before you start insulting some other country! And for the international American guests, they do NOT need to go on, but they do because they have some show, album or whatever to promote so who is the dumb ass here now?
