Following in the footsteps of Jennifer Aniston, Sofia Vergara and Ricky Gervais, Kerry Washington took on the task of flipping lips with host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday's episode of "The Tonight Show." "I love being here and having you interview me," the "Scandal" star told the comedian. "You're doing a very good job and it's inspiring. It makes me want to interview me." The pair proceeded to swap lips, using a range of unusual voices and switching up accents while performing Meow Mix and Kit Kat jingles. To top off the hilarious segment, Kerry and Jimmy teamed up for a new song about "Scandal," set to the tune of Elton John's classic hit, "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road." "Goodbye Livi Pope, though I never knew you at all, there's only two more episodes before the show comes back next fall," Fallon began singing before Washington chimed in.

The camera pans up, passing slowly over the floor-length cascade of round sequins that comprise her dress—the color of the Yellow Brick Road—and by the time she reaches the end of the stage, it's clear that Ma Rainey (Mo'Nique) is the coin of the realm. Seated in the audience, our heroine, blues icon-to-be Bessie Smith (Queen Latifah), peers up at this glittering fantasy of the power of performance completely transfixed. And so are we. Channeling her abhorrence for an unjust system into the subversive authority of the star turn, Ma Rainey, much like the actress who brings her to life, quickly establishes herself as a magnetic force. What she attracts with her music's beguiling blend of humor and pathos she can also repel with the quick draw of a pistol or a rash of rough talk.

She's best known as serious Olivia Pope on Scandal but Kerry Washington was playing for laughs when she and Jimmy Fallon did a "lip flip" on Wednesday's Tonight Show.
In the recurring sketch, the pair swapped lips and used weird voices and accents as they sang jingles from Kit Kat and Meow Mix commercials before teaming up for a song about the season finale of her hit show (to the music of Elton John's "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road").

NBC is apparently back on the Yellow Brick Road. The network has given a series order to the “Wizard of Oz”-inspired drama “Emerald City,” which had originally been placed in development by the network in 2013. The drama, which has received a straight-to-series, 10-episode order, offers a dark twist on the classic tale, telling the story of 20-year-old Dorothy Gale, who’s transported to another world with her dog — this time, a police canine — to a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. John Legend, fresh off his Oscar win with Common for Selma original song "Glory," will produce and curate music for an as-yet-untitled musical romantic drama starring R&B singer Miguel.
According to Variety, Miguel is in negotiations to star as a "former one-hit wonder who regains his love for music when he is hired to coach an aspiring singer for her audition on a singing competition show." Nabil Elderkin, the video director who helmed clips for Legend ("All of Me"), Bruno Mars ("Grenade") and Good Music ("Mercy"), will make his feature film directorial debut.

My first review for a Peter Jackson film about Middle-Earth was published on December 13, 2001. I was a wee bit enthusiastic. There was a moment during the opening act of Jackson's latest film, "The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies," where I just sat dumbfounded by how effortless Jackson makes it look as he summons up whole worlds with millions of moving parts. My kids are being spoiled by the sheer density of the fantasy world that Jackson and his collaborators summoned up, and with this final chapter in this latest trilogy, he not only marries this to the earlier "Rings" films, but he also brings together in a way that makes all three of the Hobbit films feel more cohesive. By this point, we're well past the point of discussing the choice made to expand the "Hobbit" films from one movie to three. I would love to see a...

Somewhere over the rainbow, the Buckeyes are killing it!
Somewhere over the rainbow — or somewhere in Ohio, specifically — the Osu marching band performed a tribute to The Wizard of Oz during the halftime of the Buckeyes game against Cincinnati. And it was truly something spectacular.
There’s the tornado and the house dropping on a Wicked Witch:
News: Someone started a petition for Weird Al to play the Super Bowl
Dorothy and Toto on Yellow Brick Road and a grand finale in Oz:
Plus, appearances by a dancing Tin Man, a melting witch, a hot air balloon, and, of course, amazing music. For the record, Ohio beat the Bearcats 50 to 28. But let’s be honest, the marching band really won.
Watch the entire performance:
Elsewhere, Eli and Petyon Manning are rapping about football:...

Wizard of Oz fans at Comic-Con last month saw ads promoting an upcoming limited series called Emerald City, NBC’s long-gestating modern take on the magical land over the rainbow. Now that project is no longer moving forward.
EW has confirmed NBC has dropped a house on its plan to go down the Yellow Brick Road in prime-time, though producer Universal Television might still shop Emerald City around to other networks. The project had a straight-to-series 10-episode order in January with writers Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Matt Arnold (Siberia). Sources say the network and writers ended...

Miguel just wants someone to smoke with and lie down with, as well as enjoy a disdain for spaces between words, in his new video for “Simplethings.” In the strikingly shot black-and-white clip, he not only finds his match, but, apparently, he and his new love have the same spirit animals. What are the odds? The video features Miguel and his love wandering separately throughout Los Angeles as their wolf equivalents also ramble throughout city streets, apparently causing no alarm whatsoever. The song, which was featured on the “Girls” soundtrack, is a ballad, but the fuzzy distorted guitar and echo-y production gives it added edge. Miguel and his love finally connect on the beach, as do their wolf counterparts. The R&B singer continues work on his followup to 2012’s “Kaleidoscope.” He also most recently appeared on the 40th anniversary of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” remaking “Bennie and the Jets” with Wale,...

Miguel's just one of the artists (Fall Out Boy doing “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting"? Okay!) covering John in a tribute to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road for the album's 40th anniversary reissue. The song's less remix, more cover, aside from Miguel's ending plea ("I mean, where do you get a mohair suit, anyway?") with Wale adding a verse about the pitfalls of fame. And with that Elton John biopic just around the corner, the newly cast Tom Hardy should watch his back. Miguel can almost certainly pull off John's famous glasses collection more convincingly.

Happy 100th birthday, Parks and Rec! Unfortunately it’s not exactly a happy one for Leslie, whom we see on her last day as a city councilwoman. Her final hours in office mostly consist of initiating Ingrid (the always welcome Kristen Bell) while accidentally singing “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” out loud. Ben wants to make things better because he loves Leslie so, but up until the end, his ideas are a little lacking. Which is kind of how I feel about this episode.I’m sorry! I’m sorry to say that. No one wants to love Parks more than I do. I want to love everything about it all of the time every day forever. But much like the episode’s title, “Second Chunce” was just a bit … off. Leslie’s barely been out of a job for 30 seconds when she sees Dexhart’s been up to his usual...

“Some of this really happened,” says an opening title to David O’Russell’s latest pic, American Hustle. The script by Eric Singer, written some years ago, and later revised by O’Russell (who initially came up with the title American Bullshit), is loosely based on the Abscam scandal of the late ’70s and early ’80s. It tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie Dimaso (Bradley Cooper) who pushes them into a dangerous world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, but will we like it as much as we liked The Fighter, Three Kings and to some extent, Silver Linings Playbook? Guest Kate Rennebohm joins Ricky D and Jost Spiegel to discuss...

American Hustle
Directed by: David O. Russell
Cast: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence
Running Time: 2 hrs 18 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: December 20, 2013
Plot: An FBI agent (Cooper) recruits a conning couple (Bale & Adams) to help take down dirty politicians and the mafia.
Who’S It For? If the presence of anyone in this lead cast intrigues you, American Hustle is definitely worth a look.
Overall
A who’s who of David O. Russell performers from his past two films Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter, (with an exception of Jeremy Renner), American Hustle is a film driven by such performers who are game for the unorthodox shenanigans he often gravitates to. In fact, the film is more about its performances than its characters, which isn’t entirely a good thing. It’s good for the ability to enjoy the experience of the movie — the giddiness of watching...
