We already have our tissues ready for the series finale of How I Met Your Mother on Monday, but this makes it a little easier to bear. The cast of the show got together for an episode of Inside the Actors Studio on Thursday, and when they did, it was … legendary. There were lots of laughs, but the best moment came when Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel performed an impromptu duet of "Confrontation" from the musical Les Miserables. It wasn't the first time the pair have sung the song together - the Les Mis fans previously performed a snippet...

Three syndicated shows have bit the dust since the start of the new year; The Megan Mullally Show, The Greg Behrendt Show and Geraldo at Large. The daytime market looks easy but it's a tough sell. Just ask Dr. Keith Ablow, host of cancelled syndicated show number four.
The Dr. Keith Ablow Show debuted on September 11, 2006, was produced by Lmno Productions and Telepictures Productions and syndicated by Warner Bros. Domestic Television. The show was hosted by Ablow who was a couples therapist for 20 years and has appeared as a guest on several shows as an expert regarding several high-profile trials. He's also written a half-dozen novels and seven non-fiction books, including the best-selling Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson.
The show's stated goal was to "help individuals, couples and families cope with the personal challenges they face in today's world, and develop strategies that can help them lead more fulfilling lives.

Third time's a charm -- though not for Greg Behrendt. In the third syndication cancellation in as many weeks, the Tribune group has cancelled freshman The Greg Behrendt Show.
The "self-help" talk show debuted in syndication on September 12, 2006 and was hosted by stand-up comedian and best-selling author Greg Behrendt. Each episode featured Behrendt attempting to change their lives in some way -- from cheating boyfriends to lifestyle makeovers. (You can hear one guest's experience via The Hollywood Podcast.)
The Sony Pictures Television-produced show was cancelled, like most, due to low viewership. In its four months, the "self-help" talk show attracted an average of only 880,000 households (0.8 rating) in daytime. It was tied with the similarly challenged The Megan Mullally Show that will go off the air at the end of this month.
The Behrendt cancellation may also be due to soft sales at the recent syndication show in Vegas as well...

Sony Pictures Television's freshman daytime talker The Greg Behrendt Show will not be returning for a second season, the company confirmed Wednesday. The strip, which is averaging a 0.8 household rating season-to-date, is still in production, with a mix of original and repeat episodes scheduled to air through at least May. The news follows the cancellation last month of NBC Universal's rookie talker The Megan Mullally Show. A third freshman talker, Warner Bros.' The Dr. Keith Ablow Show, also is not expected to return for a second season.

Well, NBC Universal has made the first syndication cancellation of the 2006 -2007 season. It comes as little surprise that the struggling Megan Mullally Show has been cancelled -- but it does leave some local stations in a bit of a bind.
Back in 2005, as the popular sitcom Will & Grace was preparing for its final season, NBC Universal announced that the actress best known for her portrayal of the saucy Karen Walker would host her own daytime talk show. It seemed like a good move.
Megan's Karen character was extremely popular on W&G and some even suggested that she and Sean Haye's Jack could have even sustained their own sitcom. Two-time Emmy Award-winner Megan also had a lot of experience in television and on stage in such musicals as Broadway's How to Succeed in Business WIthout Really Trying! (with Matthew Broderick). Heck, sitcom veteran Ellen DeGeneres has done extremely well...

Freshman daytime talker The Megan Mullally Show won't be back for a second season.
NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution delivered the news to the Megan staff Wednesday that it was stopping production immediately on the first-run syndicated strip. The news means that Megan is the first syndicated rookie of the 2006-07 season to get the ax.
The show will remain on the air through the end of the month, airing a previously scheduled mix of original and repeat episodes. NBC Universal is planning to work with each station currently airing Megan to find "potential programming solutions" that fit their needs following the show's departure, a spokesman said.
"We are very proud of the hard work and effort that our staff put into the production of this show," NBC Universal said. "And our host, Megan Mullally, is truly one of the most talented people in our business. We are grateful to have partnered with her on the show and are appreciative for her tireless commitment, effort and dedication to this endeavor."
Added Mullally: "I am extremely proud of the show we created and am thankful for the passion and tireless efforts of (executive producer) Corin Nelson and the entire staff."
The hourlong show, which launched in September, is averaging a 0.8 household rating season-to-date.

Syndicated talk show Rachael Ray remained the top rookie strip despite showing a week-over-week decrease, while CSI: Miami again led the weekend newcomers during the week ending Oct. 8. Rachael Ray dropped 5% for the seven-day frame to average a 2.0 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research, during a week that saw several pre-emptions thanks to Major League Baseball playoffs. Among all newcomers, The Megan Mullally Show was the only strip to post an increase over the previous week. The talker jumped 13% to a 0.9. Fellow freshman talker The Dr. Keith Ablow Show fell 10% to tie with Megan at a 0.9, while The Greg Behrendt Show was flat at a 0.8. Newsmagazine Geraldo at Large decreased 13% to average a 1.4.

WNBC New York is moving rookie talker The Megan Mullally Show from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m. starting Monday. The station will replace the strip with a double run of CBS Paramount Domestic Television's Judge Joe Brown, which is relocating to its former slot from noon. Mullally, from NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, averaged a 0.7 household rating on WNBC last week, but a NBC Universal representative pointed out that Megan has had some of its best performances in 10 a.m.-noon slots in such major markets as Phoenix, Orlando and Milwaukee.

Newcomer Rachael Ray cooked up the best debut for a syndicated talk show since Dr. Phil's launch four years ago, according to Nielsen Media Research data for the week ending Sept. 24. Rachael Ray averaged a 2.3 household rating, the best for a talker's debut week since Dr. Phil averaged a 4.4 in September 2002. Overall, the strip ranked as the No. 4 talker among all 13 shows in the genre, behind The Oprah Winfrey Show (which averaged a 6.5 for its 21st-season premiere, up 16% from the previous week), Dr. Phil (whose fifth-season premiere averaged a 4.9, up 7% from the previous week) and Live With Regis and Kelly (3.1). Among other newcomers in the talk genre, The Megan Mullally Show averaged a 0.9 in its debut week, tying with The Dr. Keith Ablow Show in that show's second week on the air. A comparison with Ablow's debut week isn't possible at this point as those ratings are being reprocessed by Nielsen. Week 2 ratings for the other rookie talker, The Greg Behrendt Show, also are being reprocessed.

Talker Rachael Ray got off to a good start in its national syndication debut Monday. Rachael Ray earned a weighted average of a 2.8 household rating/9 share in 55 overnight metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research. That figure was an improvement over both its lead-in and year-ago time period averages, jumping 17% from the lead-in average of a 2.4/8 and rising 33% from the September 2005 time period average of a 2.1/7. The show's debut also marked the highest for any first-run syndicated show premiere since Dr. Phil launched in September 2002 with a whopping 5.3/14 in 53 overnight metered markets. Talk-variety strip The Megan Mullally Show also debuted Monday, averaging a 1.2/4 in 45 metered markets. That figure was off 8% from its lead-in average of a 1.3/4 and down 14% from its year-ago time period average of a 1.4/5.

KNBC Los Angeles said Monday that it's moving syndicated talker "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" back an hour to serve as the lead-in for new talk-variety strip "The Megan Mullally Show". As you probably know, actress Megan Mullally, best known as the drunken and sassy Karen Walker on the recently-ended NBC sitcom Will & Grace, is keeping busy. The very talented Mullally is scheduled to host her own talk show this fall. The Megan Mullally Show will be syndicated across the country and will be shown on many NBC stations in the afternoon.
In case you missed them, some very funny promos for the new show have been airing and feature both Karen and Megan. They make a great team. So much so that you have to wonder if Megan's ready to let go of her famous character. Maybe not.
At a recent NBC party, Megan was heard to say that she would like to occasionally resurrect her boozy alter ego for some special comedic skits on her talk show. Unfortunately, she doesn't actually own the Will & Grace character so it's unclear...

Megan Mullally is looking to draw on the best elements of all her favorite talk shows and hosts -- such people as Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas -- and incorporate those into her own talk-variety strip launching in the fall. "I want it to be a 'best of talk shows' talk show," she said. "I've always been a big fan of talk shows, ever since I was a kid -- Carson, Merv and Mike. I think it's cool to pull elements from all the best shows." The Megan Mullally Show, distributed by NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, will include comedic and musical elements, skits, field segments and a band, Mullally said. But one thing it won't have in common with many talk shows of its ilk is that she won't be seated behind a desk. Although the actual set is still being worked out, Mullally said she's aiming for something that's "fresh and different." Mullally -- who has been at NATPE this week in Las Vegas helping to promote the show -- also wants to feature a mix of celebrity guests and "real people" in the hourlong daytime strip, saying she doesn't "want to discriminate between" the two groups.

It's been sold in more than 50% of the U.S. to stations representing more than a dozen station groups. Nelson said she's been a fan of Mullally for years and met her when the actress appeared as a guest on Rosie. Once they sat down to talk about Mullally's new show, the pair instantly clicked, she said.
