Five years after John Malone retired from the board of directors at Charter Communications, he is exiting his post as the company’s director emeritus, Deadline has confirmed.
The veteran exec and Liberty Media chairman, who has served on Charter’s board since 2008, cited the same Clayton Act concerns that led Steven A. Miron and Steven O. Newhouse to resign from the Warner Bros Discovery board early this month.
“I stepped away from my director emeritus role at Charter due to the uncertainty around Clayton Act inquiries,” Malone said in a statement, per Cablefax. “I remain heavily invested in Charter via Liberty Broadband — which maintains its three board seats — and am confident in Charter’s leadership team and strategy for the business.”

With a base roster of 32 fighters, Tekken 8 has surpassed Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6, as it has earned the crown of being the greatest fighting game of the current generation because of its relatively non-greedy practices. Where MK1 and SF6 had 22 and 18 characters in their base rosters, respectively, with the rest of the fighters locked behind paid Dlc, the latest installment in the Tekken franchise ensured that it treated its fans with as many iconic faces as possible.
However, there was a void in the absence of one Og fighter who, ever since his debut in 1997’s Tekken 3, remained a fan-favorite character in every game that followed.

The Indomitable Flash, Eddy Gordo, has arrived in Tekken 8.
Although Eddy Gordo will make his Tekken 8 debut for all players on April 4, gamers who bought the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition got to select the Brazilian fighter from April 1 onwards.

Once again, the Iowa Hawkeyes are leading ESPN to record audiences for women’s basketball.
Last week’s Elite Eight matchup between the Hawkeyes and the Lsu Tigers drew 12.3M viewers, making it the network’s most-watched college basketball game ever. It’s also the largest audience ever for a women’s college basketball game, across any network.
In addition, the Iowa-lsu matchup is ESPN’s second most-viewed college basketball game since 2012, including professional basketball.
On the heels of sky-high viewership for the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight sustained that momentum with record performance as well. The Elite Eight averaged 6.2M viewers across all games, making it the most-watched on record, up an impressive 184% year-over-year.
That also blows viewership for the Sweet 16 out of the water, considering that portion of the tournament averaged just over 2M viewers. The most-watched game was Iowa-Colorado, which saw 6.9M viewers.

Gaming is at its peak nowadays, and every developer who makes an excellent game gets the success they deserve. In 2023, games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty got the success they so deserved. But the most surprising was Street Fighter 6, which became an unexpected breakthrough for Capcom. The same happened for Tekken 8 recently; both of these games became successful, surprising everyone involved.
It’s not as if fans do not know about these games or that they are small franchises; it’s just that fighting games have a very niche audience. Hence, when these games get so successful, everyone can’t help but wonder what happened. But the director of Tekken 8 has his doubts about the future of his genre.

Kaiju No. 8 stands out in one way many shonen works fail to. It is relatable in a way most coming-of-age stories wouldn’t be. At the same time, it keeps tropes from the genre in a flow that helped it gain its popularity even more. There is much support for the idea introduced, however, it is the protagonist who holds the aces.

Warner Bros Discovery said Monday that Steven A. Miron and Steven O. Newhouse have both notified the company’s board that they have resigned as directors after the U.S. Department of Justice informed them it was investigating whether their service violated Section 8 of the Clayton Antitrust Act on overlapping boards — specifically involving Charter Communications.
The section prohibits directors and officers from serving simultaneously on the boards of competitors, subject to limited exceptions.
Newhouse is co-president of Advance and Miron is CEO of Advance/Newhouse Partnership, privately held by the Newhouse family. The family owns about 8% of Wbd stock through its previous holding in Discovery. Miron is also a director of Charter, as is another Newhouse family member, Michael Newhouse.

After 14 years together, editor Nela Märki and cinematographer-producer Martin Rattini locate a kernel of sadness in a shared life they describe as happy: they have not been able to have children. Grief and love inform the couple’s first feature—they share directors’ credits—with the title “Why the F*** Am I So Sad?,” which documents their changing relationship to childlessness.
Their documentary project was pitched earlier this week at Thessaloniki’s Pitching Forum and has since received the Mediterranean Film Institute Doc Award, which consists of free participation in the 2024 edition of the Mfi Doc Lab, a script development program dedicated to documentaries. Films that Märki has edited have screened at Locarno, Cph:Dox and IDFA, but “Why the F*** Am I So Sad?” will be a debut feature for both of them as directors. Rattini, who is also a cinematographer, produces with Italy’s Helios Sustainable Films.

The player base of the recent Helldivers 2 title was quick to form a weapon meta in the initial weeks of its release last month. While the game offers a large variety of loadouts, players, especially those who are new have opted for a very specific set of weapons that help them clear through missions and enemies alike.
However, since the is still in its early stages, it seems that many weapons that could potentially be the best ones yet might have slipped from right under our noses. We are talking about the obscure AC-8 Autocannon, a weapon that is balanced overall and is available fairly quickly to someone who is just beginning the game.

Tekken 8 has already sold a couple of million copies globally, surpassing the sales expectations of Bandai Namco. Interestingly the numbers came out to be a savior, to some extent, given the underperformance of their Mmo game Blue Protocol. The numbers generated by the popular fighting game hopefully did set off the potential losses. Now as the game is probably adding microtransactions, it remains to be seen how the new feature will perform.
Nonetheless, fans are clinging to the hope that the game won’t be putting hefty price labels so they can afford and enjoy it without going on the edge. The franchise has, to this date, sold 55 Million copies globally with Tekken 7 passing with flying colors, having sold over 10 Million copies. Bandai Namco would want to continue with this success with the latest game in the franchise which is possible when fans aren’t upset with their endeavors.

With a show as inconsistent as Fear the Walking Dead, you never know what you'll get.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 8 was another middle-of-the-road installment, but it did feature reunions, callbacks, and a shocking death that should usher in the final episodes of the series.
Since Charlie's arrival on Fear the Walking Dead Season 4, she's been one of the most polarizing figures in franchise history.

There was an element of ambiguity surrounding Charlie's fate since the end of Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 because, with such a severe case of radiation, she stood to die soon after the events at Strand's tower.
Many believed she was dead, including Daniel, who stepped in to become a father figure to her in her time of need.

Furniture stores are strange places. The liminal feeling they give off is something like a life-size dollhouse or home you once lived in but can’t remember when. If you’ve ever been into an Ikea, chances are you thought about what it’d be like to spend the night in one of the staged rooms that has a sink with no running water.
A friend told me once that when she was younger, her parents would take her and her older sister to Bob’s Furniture for snacks and movies. While her parents would pretend to shop around for a pressboard dresser, she and her sister would raid the store’s self-serve cafe for popcorn, ice cream, candy, cookies and then sit down in the store’s small theater while something like “Finding Nemo” or “Shrek” played.

Below Deck Down Under viewers were likely surprised when second officer João Franco from Below Deck Mediterranean joined the cast. But he’s not the first crew member to jump series and cast crossovers seem to be happening more and more within the franchise.
So which crew members started in one Below Deck series and jumped ship to another?
‘Below Deck’ crew member crossovers who launched a new series
The original Below Deck series was such a success that production company 51 Minds launched Below Deck Mediterranean. But rather than kick it off with an entirely new cast, they included original chef Ben Robinson to set sail alongside new chief stew Hannah Ferrier and Captain Mark Howard.
Robinson appeared on Below Deck Med once more as the relief chef on season 4. Chef Adam Glick took over on Below Deck Med for seasons 2 and 3. He then became the crossover cast member to launch Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Ed Sheeran added Eminem to the equation for the Detroit stop on his ongoing “Mathematics Tour,” with the pair performing “Lose Yourself” and “Stan” in front of the rapper’s hometown crowd.
“I wondered if I could play you a cover of an Eminem song tonight,” Sheeran began. “I think you know it. We rehearsed it today; we’ll see how it goes.” After strumming the “Lose Yourself” intro and admirably rattling off the first few lines, Slim Shady took the stage to finish off the opening verse. Though the rapper sounded just as ferocious as he did on the original 8 Mile cut, the singer-guitarist brought his own twist with some nice harmonies during the chorus.
Cutting the song short, Sheeran raised the hype by telling the audience, “Can I just say, he was gonna come out and do one song, but I said you can’t come out...

Coto, whose childhood love of Star Trek and Super-8 moviemaking led to a 40-year career in film and television, died Sunday at his home in Pasadena after a 13-month battle with pancreatic cancer, a family spokesperson announced.
Coto also worked on the final two seasons of Upn’s Star Trek: Enterprise (2003-05) and on the final three seasons of Showtime’s Dexter (2010-13). The "Fast & Furious" franchise has taken quite the ride, growing from a modest "Point Break" riff to globe-trotting espionage, borderline superhero movies (with cars). Along the way, it left the laws of physics in the dust. There are currently 11 "Fast & Furious," the 10 mainline films plus the spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw" — or are there?
Director Justin Lin (who directed five of these eleven films) made himself a household name with 2002's "Better Luck Tomorrow." Afflicted with ennui, the four begin committing petty crimes, which escalate to robbery and then murder — the victim is Steve (John Cho), boyfriend of Ben's crush Stephanie (Karin Anna Cheung).

Valdez had been battling end-stage kidney failure and died at home, his son, Steve Valdez, told the station on Friday.
A native of East Los Angeles, Valdez attended L.A. City College and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at the local TV stations Kcet and Ktla and the La Opiñion newspaper before joining Kttv in 1981 when it was owned by Metromedia.
