Video Exclusive: Chris O’Dowd On Getting Stuck At The Top Of A Ferris Wheel Filming ‘Big Door Prize’
The Big Door Prize, which premiered at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, follows the story of a mysterious machine that appears in a small town grocery store that predicts the destiny of anyone who uses it. In the show, Chris O’Dowd stars as Dusty.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview, O’Dowd discussed his favorite memory from shooting the show.
“Being stuck on the top of a Ferris wheel during a rain storm or storm coming,” he said. “Couldn’t get the thing to work, but it’s precarious being anywhere where you’re unfamiliar, and I think that’s kind of what the show is about. We were doing a long scene, I think it was old. It was old, and much like myself, when getting stuck we couldn’t get it to move quickly at all.”
O’Dowd also revealed his secret talent.

Twenty years ago today, Quentin Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein unveiled the filmmaker’s sophomore movie — an ambitious anthology of crime stories, all interconnected and metatextualized — at a late Saturday night screening at the Cannes Film Festival. A little over three hours later, as the crowd staggered out of the Palais des Festivals, they knew they had an audience favorite on their hands. Soon, they would be able to add Palme d’Or winner, Best Picture Oscar nominee, the first indie film to break the $100 million mark, a gamechanger and a modern classic to the list.

London, Sep 28: British singer Adele is reportedly in talks to play the lead role in a biopic in country singer Dusty Springfield.
The film, to be penned by David Stenn, will focus on Springfield's time living in Memphis, Tennessee in the late 1960s during the making of her 1969 album "Dusty in Memphis".
"There is a project - and it's true Adele is attached - but it's in an early stage of development," dailymail.co.uk quoted a source as saying.
Adele's London-based spokesman offered "no comment on this" when approached by Daily Mail.

The Way, Way Back (Fox Searchlight)
One of those perfectly executed coming-of-age stories that I hope will not get lost in the giant summer tsunami of animation, sci-fi (see Pacific Rim below), and 3D mega-action films. Co-written and co-directed by the Academy Award-winning team of Nat Faxon and Jim Ras (they also have supporting roles in this film), who have hit the nerve of what it means to be young, uncertain, and disengaged in the new digital America. Moreover, we empathize with our 14-year-old introverted protagonist Duncan (Liam James) as he tries to understand his place in a world of adults who refuse to grow up -- tricky business for the children and even more so for the hard-partying parents. But when your mother Pam's (Toni Collette) new boyfriend Trent (Steve Carell) is a douchebag hellbent on "winning" your respect, and you can see right through his phoniness because you...

Environmentalist. Cannabis spokesperson. Playwright. Vegan. Cannabis enjoyer. Woody Harrelson is a complex individual and a multifaceted presence on screen, his roles running the range of clean-cut cowboy to cold-blooded killer. But no matter who he's playing there always seems to be a lingering essence of the real Woody, and that's why he rules.
This week sees the former TV star getting "Cheers" for his role as a stage-magician-cum-bank-robber in "Now You See Me" and this November he'll reprise the part of Haymitch Abernathy in his first-ever sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." We're stoking the fires of Woody worship as we pay tribute to our favorite High Times cover boy with nine of his quintessential roles.
9. 'A Scanner Darkly' (2006)
There's no denying the essential Woodiness of stoner dude Ernie Luckman in Richard Linklater's rotoscope animated take on one of Philip K. Dick's most grounded and personal novels.

Ufc President Dana White praised fighter Liz Carmouche for coming out like she did:
I love what she did. I know I have the big ‘homophobe' persona and people think I'm some homophobe. I'm the furthest thing from it. I think it's ridiculous it's 2013 and the government tells two people they can't marry each other. Who is the government to tell two people who say they love each other they can't be married? It's ridiculous .… I applaud that she came out and that she's the first one. Good for her. I hope more do. It doesn't bother me one bit. Shouldn't bother anyone else either.

December is a month that increasingly sees few releases of new albums, so the closer this list gets to the present day, the fewer albums of importance there are to discuss, and most of those are hip-hop albums.

Traffic: Mr. Fantasy Aka Heaven Is in Your Mind (Island)
Shortly after Steve Winwood quit the Spencer Davis Group (of which he was the lead singer and organist), he formed Traffic with some guys he'd jammed with at a club in Birmingham: guitarist/vocalist Dave Mason, saxophonist/flutist Chris Wood, and drummer/lyricist Jim Capaldi. After a couple of hit singles, they convened at a country cottage and put together the debut album by Traffic, titled Mr. Fantasy in their native country. By the time it was released, Mason had already quit.

The best way to spread holiday cheer, Will Ferrell instructed us in the 2003 movie Elf, is singing loud for all to hear. And what better place to sing than on Broadway? Now the stage musical version of Elf is back on Broadway after a one-year hiatus. And it’s joined by a new stage version of the 1983 yuletide movie fave A Christmas Story (pictured above) — that naturally features a leg-lamp kickline and a tap-dancing fantasy number called “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out.” Both shows opened this week for limited runs, and here are excerpts of our reviews (as well...

Fear Of Music, the name of both the latest work from Jonathan Lethem and the Talking Heads album, comes as the most recent release from the 33 1/3 series. In this series, each book (30,000 to 40,000 words) investigates a single popular music album. The first, on Dusty Springfield’s album Dusty In Memphis, came out in 2003. Nine years later, more than 80 carry the 33 1/3 insignia, with more on the way. The existing set of books leans toward work from canonical ’60s and ’70s white rock musicians—Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited; The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St.;...

A high-flying, basket-tossing new musical based on the 2000 teen cheerleader comedy Bring It On took an unusual (backward-somersaulting) path to its Broadway opening this week. Instead of launching a national tour after a splashy New York run, the energetic tuner (which is only loosely based on the Kirsten Dunst film, plot-wise) played in 13 cities starting last November before bowing on the Great White Way. In my B+ review, I noted the youthful cast and a score, by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), with lyrics by Miranda and Amanda Green (High Fidelity), that actually “sounds...

I told you we'd be better off without raspy frump superstar Elise Testone in the competition. Now we have five contenders who could -- unless Phil Phillips is truly obliterating the home vote, which is possible -- win the damn contest. I like a grudge match. I like my American Idols roiling in the pit and beating each other up like hard-bodied slaves in the "Express Yourself" video. I want to see Hollie Cavanagh climbing up Joshua Ledet's limbs like a gibbon and ripping out his vocal cords with her pearly incisors. Do we have any graphic novelists in the house? Storyboard this for me and I swear to God I'll pimp you for weeks on AfterElton.
This week's set of themes included the 1960s and British pop. Because those don't overlap at all, idiots. Why is Idol like this sometimes? Make these kids do disparate genres I care about,...

A potential bromance sputtered awkwardly. Ryan Seacrest pretended not to know the difference between a daffodil and a tulip. J.Lo and Steven Tyler respectively admitted to never having heard “The Letter” and “Bleeding Love.” And Randy Jackson one-upped them by going all “durrr”-faced when confronted by the word “crustacean.” (In his defense, it does contain more than two syllables.)
But who cares about such ignoble details when you’ve got the American Idol Season 11 Top 5 doing their darndest to one-up their own personal best performances and give us major Idol Moments in the process?

American Idol judge Randy Jackson is quite possibly the most ridiculous person on television today, but I’m not sure I have any vitriol left for the man who is affectionately/ragefully known by the Idoloonie Nation as “The Dawg.” (Yes, folks, that’s the ‘D–’ I was referring to in my headline.)

The chicks and chavs of American Idol wailed two jams this week: one post-2000 anthem and one "soul" song in the tradition of Soul Train, the most phenomenal music series of all time. (Sorry, Dick Clark! I still watch $25,000 Pyramid reruns every day, so no disrespect.) Though it was awkward when Don Cornelius' son Tony appeared in the audience not two months after his father's self-destruction, much of the night was a splendid musical spectacular. Hot. And a couple of beleaguered contestants rebirthed and came alive for the first time in weeks. Wee!
Now, if I were performing this week, I'd have chosen "Work It" by Missy Elliott (I love inventive vagina slang!) and "Ease on Down the Road" from The Wiz. Both would feature Timbaland in a scarecrow costume, if that helps you to understand my vision. Onward to our rankings!

For the last couple of years, Kristin Chenoweth has told reporters how badly she wants to star in a biopic of the legendary bisexual vocalist Dusty Springfield. And as Dusty's lover, Kristin wanted Kerry Washington for the part. The two have professed their desire to star together ever since, and it's still not come to fruition.
I had to ask Chenoweth: Where is the movie? The lesbians need to know!
"Not just lesbians, maam, me!" Kristin said at the ABC TCA party. "You know what? I don't know. We had a script that needed a lot of work, but Dolly Parton is writing her show so she wants me to do that. I'm like 'Hurry up, Dolly!'"
But she hasn't wavered on who she wants as her on-screen lover. "That's my girl!" she said of Kerry. "Wouldn't she be perfect with me? If I was lesbian, she'd be my girl.

When all is said and done, 2012 may well go down as the year of the music biopic. Plans are already in order for Sam Cooke, Bobby Fuller and Jeff Buckley to get their own films, and British songstress Dusty Springfield seems to be next in line. The UK production company Fairbanks has enlisted director Nick Hurran to helm the picture, based on a Ray Connelly adaptation of the Sharon Davis biography A Girl Called Dusty. Connelly is no stranger to music biopics as he previously penned That'll Be The Day. In the mid to late 1960s, Dusty Springfield was arguably the most popular female solo artist in the world. By the time she was done, she'd notched more than twenty charting singles, recorded one album, Dusty In Memphis, that continues to be regarded as one of the best ever and paved the way for numerous gay, lesbian and bisexual singers...

Remember Jessica Sharzer's imagining of the Dusty Springfield story, which began production in 2005? No? How about the one starring Nicole Kidman, penned by The Hours' scribe Michael Cunningham which got off the ground in 2008? Still drawing a blank? Turns out, the cursed project just can't seem to get made, even with significant star power behind it. The third time could be the charm, though, as Fairbanks Productions has saved up $30 million in change to give it another shot. Based on Sharon Davis's intimate novel A Girl Called Dusty, the film is the third announced production from the 6-month old company founded by Dominick Fairbanks - the great grandson of none other than Douglas Fairbanks. Filming is set to start at some point in 2012, as long as the "Death comes in threes" rule doesn't show its face. Gist: "This is the story that she never had the chance to tell herself.

No record collection is complete without a copy of “Dusty in Memphis,” British singer Dusty Springfield’s singer’s 1969 classic that included “Son of a Preacher Man,” and showed that soul has no geographic boundaries. Sheryl Crow grew up a lot closer to Memphis than Springfield as we learn from “100 Miles From Memphis,” the title of her new album which references the distance from that soul capital and her hometown of Kennet, Mo. The songs here, most of them originals, are patterned after the lush, layered soul music she grew up on. This is Al Green’s Memphis, not Elvis’s. Opener, the...

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass team up again for a blistering thriller about the conspiracy over WMDs
Hollywood has made a habit of buying bestselling books on the strength of their catchy titles and then hiring writers to provide them with plots and dialogue. Joseph Heller undertook the task of giving flesh and wit to Helen Gurley Brown's self-help manual Sex and the Single Girl. Woody Allen performed a similar, rather more successful job on Dr David Reuben's Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask. Written by the Washington Post reporter Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone, is an eye-opening account of the blundering operation of the Coalition Provisional Authority in its first year. It was optioned on publication four years ago, and the producers came together with director Paul Greengrass, writer Brian Helgeland...

Now that Reid is officially out, what will Luke's reaction be when he hears the news? Will he see his nemesis in a different light?
Join us for the fun and refresh for updates!
2:05Pm Est: Oh jeez ... now there's a "baby daddy" storyline with Janet, Jack, Carly and Dusty. So Jack and Carly are back together? Because last time I watched Jack had moved back in with Janet and they were doing a whole Dudley Moore/Mary Tyler Moore in Six Weeks thing with about-to-kick-the-bucket Liberty, trying to make her last days like a non-stop "Omg, A Pony!" birthday party.
Oh, okay. Janet is having a baby for the bone marrow, to help out Liberty. How very My Sister's Keeper.
Reid is saying goodbye to Katie, and Luke is startled as he walks by to see Reid hold the baby up and actually smile. Or is he waiting...

Andrea Arnold, from Fish Tank, Red Road and Wasp fame, will be hitting Wuthering Heights next, but she might be following that up with another original piece called The Cleaner. Peter Strickland (see pic above) who made waves last year with his film Katalin Varga, will be going to Italy for his next project - a horror film called who is developing The Berberian Sound Studio. - Thanks to the workaholic folks at thePlaylist for making this press release "more" public, as there are plenty of noteworthy projects in development mentioned in the UK Film Council from talented filmmakers who've yet to even mention these future films. While we are aware of what Winterbottom, Ramsay, Hirschbiegel and Terry Gilliam, there is some fresh stuff in here to be excited about. Here are a half dozen that are now on my radar, I've include the press release below or you...

Broadway.com is reporting that Kerry Washington (Ray, The Last King of Scotland) could soon be signed on to play opposite Kristin Chenoweth in the upcoming Dusty Springfield biopic. Chenoweth will play the bisexual chanteuse and Washington would play Dusty's "African-American female lover."
The site notes that Chenoweth originally told E! last year that she'd love to have Kerry play the part, and Kerry told the press today that she ran into Kristin in L.A. and told her she'd love to play her girlfriend. “It’s very exciting," Washington said. "I feel like I’ve been waiting to make out with her forever.”
I'll pause while several of you nod in agreement.
Kerry Washington is an accomplished actress who has also played gay twice before in Spike Lee's She Hate Me and The Dead Girl, in which she got down with Brittany Murphy.
And while the Dusty...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTV News. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
There's been a lot of talk about Taylor Momsen and her band the Pretty Reckless in the Newsroom this week. Who does the band most remind us of? Are they any good? And will Momsen have to fight off Courtney Love? But mostly it made us think about other actors who have tried their hand at music. So this week's question is: What is the best — or worst — actor-turned-musician transition? Read the Newsroom's answers below, then leave your own thoughts in the comments.

A former backing singer who worked with Dusty Springfield has said that modern stars do not have the ability to sing like her. Of modern singers, Bell said: "None of them actually sings like Dusty because, well, frankly they are not capable. (more)...

Infectious is a good word to describe the energy of Kristin Chenoweth. Whether she’s chatting about her love of Broadway, her recently canceled ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies, her charitable causes or the Christmas holidays, it’s impossible to not feel a little intoxicated by talking with her. This is probably no news to her long-time fans but also explains why her career is hotter than ever before.
With her new holiday CD, “A Lovely Way To Spend Christmas,” and her appearance on TNT’s Christmas in Washington special on December 17, it’s easy to see why the holiday is Chenoweth’s favorite.
When we asked how the songs she’ll be performing on the TNT special were chosen she said the producers, “listened to the album and they picked them for me. And I love the songs they chose for me but I’m a little...

Australian actress Nicole Kidman is to play Dusty Springfield in a new biopic of the singer's life.
The 40-year-old star is to team up again with Michael Cunningham - who scripted her Oscar-winning performance in 2002's The Hours.
The movie will chronicle Springfield's rise to fame in the 1960s and touch on her battles with alcohol, drugs and mental health problems before her death from breast cancer in 1999.
Script-writer Cunningham says, "It will be the real Dusty. A great artist who no one knew what to do with. But she is going into history with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones."...
