I do not own the first Guitar Hero, nor the third. I bought the second a while ago after playing it at a friends house, and I thought that the game had definite potential. And it did.
When I brought it home, it took me a while to come to terms with the new and interesting style of game-play. Rather than tap buttons with your thumbs on a small hand-held controller, you would use your index, middle, ring, and pinkie finger to hold down the frets to play different notes. To add in more realism, you had to strum a little bar in order to make noise.
Yes, it all seemed very fun for quite some time. I eventually got very good at the game, but by the time I got to the medium setting to the hard, the game changed drastically. There just wasn't an easy transition between the two. So, I honed my skills on the medium setting and left the game alone for a while.
Really, folks, don't misunderstand me. The Guitar Hero series is a fun one, but I just have a problem with it at parties. It has always irritated me that people had to ruin others' good time by bringing this game along. It ruins the chance to be social for so many. Eventually, the majority of the people at the party are flocked in front of a television set watching colored bubbles go by. the other thing is that the game is tremendously popular, and when brought to a party, there is almost always an argument as to who will play next. Most die-hard fans are the ones who bring the game to the party, and are more than often the ones who spend the majority of the time hogging the game.
To me, I enjoy the game alone or with a friend and NOBODY ELSE. I also think that those who can play Guitar Hero without error should get a life, get off their ass, and learn how to play a real guitar. Clearly they have enough persistence to pursue it.
