A Body in the Trunk
claudio_carvalho26 October 2007
On the day of the California Presidential Primary, between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM, Janet arrives in the hospital as Jane Doe and immediately goes to an emergency surgery. Teri and Alan arrives in despair, trying to find which daughter is in surgery. In the Campaign Headquarter of Senator David Palmer, he schedules a meeting with Maureen Kingsley on the third floor. The reporter confirms that Keith's therapist George Ferragano had told that Keith had killed the man that raped his sister, and she confirmed that Keith had gone to a hospital using a fake name. Meanwhile, Jack Bauer forces a situation in the precinct to release Greg Penticoff and get information about Kim. Nina is not able to trace the phone call of Gaines to Penticoff, and they find a body that Gaines left in the trunk of a car. Janet has problems in her surgery.

In the fifth episode of "24", David Palmer seems to believe that Keith killed the criminal that raped Nicole. Teri does not know what happened with Kim. Jack Bauer helps Penticoff to escape from the precinct, trying to find where Kim is, and he finally tells George Mason that there is a conspiracy in the CTU. Gaines shows to Kim and Dan how dangerous he is. Will Janet survive? My vote is eight.

There's no such thing as "sorta dead"...
MaxBorg896 December 2007
"If you ever want to see your daughter again, get me out of this!" Greg Penticoff (an unrecognizable John Hawkes) told Jack Bauer at the end of the previous episode. Now, fearing for Kim's life and with George Mason still suspecting him of treason, Jack has to come up with a plan to get Penticoff out of jail. Pity the LAPD won't agree on that one...

In the meantime, Teri and Alan York learn of a Jane Doe that has been taken to the hospital and Alan identifies the half-dead girl as his daughter Janet. This means she didn't die two hours earlier, as Kimberly's kidnappers told Ira Gaines, and lying to Gaines has damaging consequences. In addition, Senator Palmer's personal problems worsen during a meeting with Maureen Kingsley, the woman who wrote the troubling article about Keith and has a virtually foolproof source for the story: George Ferragamo, the boy's therapist.

Bauer's awareness of his daughter's condition adds poignancy to the narrative, as does Palmer's realization that he might not be able to trust his own family, while a sudden jolt of violence serves as an effective reminder of the fact that 24 can be unexpectedly brutal at times. The real value of this fifth hour, though, comes from seeing Sutherland's performance acquire new layers of complexity: as he tries to get Penticoff out of custody, Jack shows the first of his many fake bouts of anger, fooling the cops and also the audience. No wonder the actor won a Golden Globe for his work in Season 1.

Conspiracy All Around!
g-bodyl1 May 2015
This is the fifth episode of the first season of 24. It's a very tense, action-jammed episode that has many things going on at once. Once again, I really like the realistic tone of the story being set in real-time and all. The story itself may have a few weaker moments, mainly in the scenes with Teri, but this is still a highly-adequate episode.

In this episode, "4:00," Jack follows the suspect to the police station, where he wants to learn more about his daughter's kidnapping. But he has to avoid being caught by George Mason. Meanwhile, Teri and Alan are at the hospital while Janet, Kim's friend goes in surgery. Kim realizes how dangerous Ira Gaines can be.

Overall, this is a fast-paced, explosive episode highlighted by some interesting action scenes within the police precinct. I loved the ending as it adds another twist to the story.

My Grade: A-

Hitchcoc1 October 2018
Jack, goes off on his own, finding a connection to the girls. He is pursued and must actually let a criminal out of jail in order to gain his assistance. Meanwhile, Jack's daughter continues to be abused by these guys. The psychosis of evil ones is front and center here. Jack continues to search and do his due diligence to save the Senator. The other plot line is the Senator's son who is about to be accused of the murder of a young man who raped his sister and then supposedly jumped to his death.
