- Nabilla Al-Jamil: [hiding in the laundry room as hit men shoot at them from the outside the room] God. Don't you have a gun?
- Chloe O'Brian: I work with computers.
- Audrey Raines: I just came from the clinic where their treating Prado for multiple injuries
- Jack Bauer: What'd you expect me to do? Marwan has a nuclear warhead and his going to use it unless we find him first
- Audrey Raines: I understand the situation
- Jack Bauer: Then you know what I did was absolutely necessary: at least now we know where he is
- Audrey Raines: Logan gave you a direct order not to use "extreme" interrogation measures without his authorization. Jack, you are acting against the President
- Jack Bauer: I know, look I've got to go
- Audrey Raines: You can't keep working outside the law and not expect consequences
- Jack Bauer: Trust me: no one understands the consequences better than me
- President Charles Logan: Authorizing the torture of a foreign national is one thing but torturing a US citizen, I can't
- Mike Novick: Sir, this man Prado has information on the whereabouts of a nuclear warhead
- President Charles Logan: We don't know that for sure
- Mike Novick: No, we don't because you're not letting CTU do what they need to do
- President Charles Logan: I'm going to wait until the Attorney General gets back to me with an opinion
- Mike Novick: Mr. President, we are running out of time
- President Charles Logan: [to Walt] you were the first one to raise an objection to this: what'd you think now?
- Walt Cummings: I think you need to make a decision Sir, and sooner rather than later
- Mike Novick: [Referring to Bill Buchanan waiting to hear the President's decision] what should I tell him?
- President Charles Logan: [Raises his voice] stop pressing me for an answer I'm not ready to give, I need more time
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone] I just got out the room with President Logan: he knows how we got the information from Prado
- Bill Buchanan: How did he find that out?
- Mike Novick: His not a stupid man, I'm not going to lie to him
- Bill Buchanan: Well, you'll just have to convince him to leave it alone
- Mike Novick: I tried, his not going to leave it alone
- Bill Buchanan: Fine, tomorrow he can bring charges against me: right now I have to get back to the business of finding Marwan
- Mike Novick: It's not tomorrow and it's not "you"
- Bill Buchanan: What's that mean?
- Mike Novick: He wants Jack Bauer arrested
- Bill Buchanan: Arrested? Jack is heading up the team trying to bring in Marwan
- Mike Novick: We're aware of that, Logan's adamant: he wants this dealt with immediately. Anything less he'll take as a personal repudiation of his Presidency
- Bill Buchanan: [Raises his voice] ok, what's more important? The President's feelings? Or capturing the man who's responsible for everything that happened today?
- Mike Novick: I hear what you're saying but Logan's already called the Secret Service. They're on their way to take Jack into custody, I suggest you warn him immediately
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone] I'm sorry for the delay but the President is still working through his decision
- Bill Buchanan: The President won't have to make that call
- Mike Novick: What're you talking about?
- Bill Buchanan: Prado gave up Marwan's location
- Mike Novick: I thought Prado claimed he didn't know anything?
- Bill Buchanan: He did: he changed his mind
- Mike Novick: You mean Bauer physically coerced him? Tell me what happened?
- Bill Buchanan: Bauer got the information we needed, I think it's best if I insulate you from the details
- Mike Novick: [Angrily] the President gave explicit orders: you should've restrained Bauer
- Bill Buchanan: With all due respect, "restraint" isn't a luxury we can afford right now
- Mike Novick: What am I suppose to tell the President?
- Bill Buchanan: Convince him to sign off on the "extreme" interrogation and we'll change the timeline in the official record
- Mike Novick: I made the mistake of deceiving one President, I won't make the same mistake twice
- Bill Buchanan: Even though we both know Bauer was right? Someone out there has one of our nuclear warheads. May I speak off the record?
- Mike Novick: Go ahead
- Bill Buchanan: I'm worried about President Logan
- Mike Novick: Worried? Why?
- Bill Buchanan: His behavior over the last few hours, I'm concerned about his ability to lead us through this crisis
- Mike Novick: [sighs, before hanging up] I understand
- Audrey Raines: How could you let Jack torture Prado?
- Bill Buchanan: [Before taking her aside to talk privately] it had to be done
- Audrey Raines: The President made it very clear: he didn't want Prado's rights violated
- Bill Buchanan: That's right he did make it clear and he was wrong
- Audrey Raines: We can't just break protocol because we think it was right at the time and expect to get away with it
- Bill Buchanan: Normally, I'd agree with you but in this case "I'd rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission"
- Audrey Raines: What kind of answer is that?
- Bill Buchanan: The answer is it worked: we got Marwan's location. With all due respect, this is not Washington DC, policy and politics don't always work on the front line which is where we are today
- Audrey Raines: Yes but Charles Logan is a politician and he is not going to give you "forgiveness." I "hope" this does not come back to haunt you or Jack
- Bill Buchanan: If what we did gets us to Marwan, we'll live with it
- Chloe O'Brian: [Over the phone] this is Chloe O'Brian, how can I help you?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: I was just telling the man on the phone I'm not sure exactly who I should be talking to?
- Chloe O'Brian: I'm an analyst at CTU Los Angeles: why don't you start at the beginning?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: I'm calling about my boyfriend
- Chloe O'Brian: What's his name?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: You need to understand I'm not sure if this "means" anything
- Chloe O'Brian: You were about to tell me his name?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Sabir Ardakani: we've been going out since grad school
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Can you spell that?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Ardakani, A-R-D-A-K-A-N-I
- Chloe O'Brian: Where'd you go to grad school?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Berkley Tech, we were both studying engineering. His been traveling a lot lately, "business trips" he said, I'm not sure why I looked, probably because of everything that's been going today but I found something on his computer
- Chloe O'Brian: Tell me
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: I think Sabir may have become involved with "radical" groups
- Chloe O'Brian: You mean terrorists?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Yes
- Chloe O'Brian: Where is Sabir now?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: He said he was going to Arizona for a client meeting but that hotel has no record of it
- Chloe O'Brian: When you looked through his computer files, tell me what you found "specifically"?
- Nabilla Al-Jamil: Most of the files were encrypted but there was one document in the recycling bin that's a schematic for a micro chip: a type I've never seen before
- Habib Marwan: [On a pre-recorded video] people of America, you wake up today to a different world: one of your own nuclear weapons, has been used against you. It'll be days and weeks, before you can measure the damage we have caused. As you count your dead, remember why this has happened to you. You have no understanding for the causes the people you strike down or the nations you conquer. You choose to meddle in their affairs without respect, you follow your government unquestioning toward your own slaughter. Today you pay the price for that ignorance. Unless you renounce your policies of imperialism, interventional activities, this attack will be followed by another and another after that
- President Charles Logan: [Over a speakerphone with Mike Novick nearby] how did Marwan get pass your men?
- Bill Buchanan: They had to move in before they were ready
- Mike Novick: Why?
- Bill Buchanan: Secret Service showed up to take Bauer into custody which compromised one of our positions
- President Charles Logan: [Stunned] I didn't mean... that's not what I meant to have happened
- Bill Buchanan: With respect Sir, your orders were explicit
- Mike Novick: What other search protocols are you running?
- Bill Buchanan: None: we're essentially without a lead
- President Charles Logan: Give us a few minutes, we'll get right back to you
- President Charles Logan: [after Mike gives him a stern look, referring to his decision that compromised capturing Marwan] this not my fault: none of this would've happened if Jack Bauer hadn't disobeyed my orders in the first place
- Mike Novick: I'm sorry Sir but if you're asking me to agree with that assessment, I can't. If it wasn't for Jack, we wouldn't have located Marwan. CTU is waiting for us to call them back with a directive, what would you like me to tell them?
- President Charles Logan: [Shaking his head] I have no idea, and that's the problem isn't it? It is my fault we lost him. This man Marwan has a nuclear warhead and I "allowed" him to escape
- Mike Novick: Mr. President...
- President Charles Logan: [Interrupts him] stop, I don't even know if I deserve to be called that
- Mike Novick: Whatever I call you won't change the fact you are the President of the United States
- President Charles Logan: I shouldn't be: for the good of this country, I should resign
- Mike Novick: That's not an option Sir, not without "destroying" the public's confidence which is already at its limits
- President Charles Logan: Then what should I do? Tell me what to do
- Mike Novick: [sighs] there's someone who can advise you better than I can. You should "consider" bringing him in here to help you through this
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone] I'm sorry to disturb you so late
- David Palmer: No, I've been up all night following the news: this is a tragic day for our country
- Mike Novick: Yes, may I ask when you received your last intelligence briefing?
- David Palmer: Three hours ago why?
- Mike Novick: Since then, the terrorists behind today's events, Habib Marwan has taken possession of a nuclear warhead
- David Palmer: [Stands up] my God, how?
- Mike Novick: Well, he recovered the football in the wreckage of Air Force One and he used it to track and steal a warhead. President Logan feels he needs "help"
- David Palmer: What kind of help?
- Mike Novick: Substantial
- David Palmer: I'm not sure what you're asking me to do
- Mike Novick: President Logan is requesting you run the effort to recover the stolen weapon: you'll be in place to make whatever decisions you need to be made. A crisis is looming, hard choices need to be made, by the President's own admission, he feels he may not be up to the task. This country is very possibly facing the worst terrorist act in its history. We need your leadership
- David Palmer: Before I do anything, I want to speak to President Logan face to face
- Mike Novick: Fair enough I'll notify your Secret Service detail to bring you to the White House
- Chloe O'Brian: [Over the phone] does my panel have a live link to the network?
- Edgar Stiles: Not yet
- Chloe O'Brian: What're you waiting for?
- Edgar Stiles: We don't do that until the "agent's" are on site
- Chloe O'Brian: I'm not an "agent"
- Edgar Stiles: I know that but you're attached to a mobile unit. I'm just trying to do things "by the book", isn't that what you always tell me to do?
- Chloe O'Brian: Why do you have to be so contrary? I'm just not comfortable up here, I just want to make sure you have everything covered
- Edgar Stiles: Fine: you have your live link, what else?
- Chloe O'Brian: Connect my live link with Bergen and White. I want to make sure I can monitor a two-way between them and CTU
- Edgar Stiles: Done
- Chloe O'Brian: ok, I can't think of anything else right now but if I do I'm going to call you and I really hope you don't give me so much resistance next time
- Edgar Stiles: I know you scared. I'll make sure everything is covered on this end
- Chloe O'Brian: Why did they ask me to do this? I really hate it
- Edgar Stiles: When you were prepping, I asked Buchanan if I could go instead of you, he wouldn't let me. He said you were the best analyst we have: his right
- Chloe O'Brian: [Before hanging up] I know, I'll call you if I can think of anything else
- Audrey Raines: What happened?
- Bill Buchanan: Prado talked
- Audrey Raines: Who did this?
- Bill Buchanan: [Knowing she's not going to approve of what he says] Audrey...
- Audrey Raines: I'm a representative of DOD, I have a right to know
- Audrey Raines: [after his silent] did Jack do this?
- Bill Buchanan: Yes he did: it was the only way to get him to give up Marwan's location
- Audrey Raines: So President gave Jack the authority to use force?
- Bill Buchanan: No, the President didn't
- Audrey Raines: Where's Jack now?
- Bill Buchanan: His prepping a team to apprehend Marwan
- Mike Novick: CTU located Marwan: they sent a tactical team to grab him
- President Charles Logan: That's good news but I'm curious how they "obtained" Marwan's location? Did they use force?
- Mike Novick: Yes Sir, I believe "force" was used but I don't need to remind you this is an extremely time sensitive situation
- President Charles Logan: Who's responsible?
- President Charles Logan: [after Mike remains silent] who's responsible?
- Mike Novick: Jack Bauer
- President Charles Logan: [Angrily] I'm the President of the United States. I cannot allow this kind of insubordination to go unanswered especially in times of crisis
- Mike Novick: [after Mike continues to remain silent] I want Bauer arrested
- Mike Novick: I agree that should happen Sir but I think we should wait until we have Marwan in custody
- President Charles Logan: No, I want him arrested now
- Mike Novick: Sir, Bauer is heading the field operation
- President Charles Logan: [Yells] Jack Bauer is not the only man who can do the job: put someone else in charge
