- Is Stu moonlighting as a Mafia hit man or could he just be an exact double for Sandy the Executioner? Kefauver's G-Men summon ex-CIA spook Stu Bailey inside the Beltway, to find out before New York's Silk Cipriano has his contract fulfilled on rival narcotics dealer California Baldy Mike Hannigan, sparking a bi-coastal gang war.—David Stevens
- Stuart is contacted by federal agent Emory Blaine who works in the organized crime division. Blaine has long been after mobster Silk Cipriano, and despite knowing that his M.O. is to eliminate any competition permanently, Blaine has never been able to pin any of Silk's criminal activities directly to him. Silk has always used his old friend who is coined The Executioner to do any of those hits, the last job four years ago. Despite being longtime friends, Silk and The Executioner do not keep in touch otherwise probably for their own individual safety. Although Blaine knows The Executioner goes by the name Alexander Drummidge in his day to day life, he also knows that it is only an assumed name, Silk and his gang who still refer to him as Sandy. Blaine knows that Silk is planning on muscling in on the San Francisco illegal drug territory of "Baldie" Mike Hannigan and will call in Sandy to get rid of him. The reason that Blaine chose Stuart for this assignment is his uncanny resemblance to Sandy. Blaine wants Stuart to infiltrate Silk's gang pretending to be Sandy. Blaine and his men will nab Sandy when he arrives in town, and further will kidnap Baldie when Stuart, as Sandy, is supposed to do the hit. What Blaine wants is for Stuart to wear a wire to record his and Silk's conversations as to their past hits as evidence to put Silk away. A little hair dye and colored contact lenses may be able to assist in the physical transformation, but Stuart has to go into a crash course on all that is Sandy, from the regional dialect of Italian he speaks to his mannerisms to the limp with which he walks. Nothing, however, may prepare Stuart for the unexpected arrival onto the scene of Rena Stratton, the current girlfriend of one of Silk's thugs, Nelse Nelson. Rena and Sandy used to be an item until she saw greener pastures with Nelse, Rena who thus knows Sandy in the biblical sense.—Huggo
