- When a pretty young manicurist starts working in Floyd's Barber Shop, the men are uneasy about it at first but eventually take to the idea in a big way. Their jealous wives, however, do not.
- The men who hang around Floyd's Barber Shop take a definite interest when a pretty young woman steps off the bus from Nashville. She is Ellen Brown who decided to go on a trip while trying to make up her mind on what to do about her boyfriend back home. A manicurist by profession, she asks Floyd if she could set up in his shop. The men think this is quite funny as they've never heard of a man who would get a manicure, but Floyd allows her. Andy, to make amends for saying something untowards, becomes her first customer. That breaks the ice, leaving Ellen a flood a customers, but when business comes to a screeching halt, Floyd leaves Andy to explain to Ellen that some of the wives may not like such an attractive woman spending time with their husbands. She misinterprets his wording to think he is proposing.—garykmcd
- While having a lazy, do-nothing day at the barber shop, Andy, Barney, Floyd and some of the boys spot a gorgeous young woman stepping off the Nashville bus across the street. Though impressed with what's on display, they're not exactly sure how to behave when her first stop turns out to be Floyd's Barber Shop. She is Ellen Brown, a pretty - though a bit motor-mouthed - young woman who is in the midst of a crisis of the heart. It seems that Pierre, her boyfriend back home, is pushing her to get married. She's not exactly sure what to do, so she is taking a vacation because she needs time to think, stopping at the first friendly-looking town she came to. A manicurist by trade who works on commission, she immediately sets up shop in the window of Floyd's barbershop. No one exactly jumps at the chance until Andy steps up. Soon men are lining up to get their nails done if only to be close to pretty Ms. Ellen and have their hands held by her. This, of course, does not sit well with the wives in town, especially since Ellen is unmarried. Andy suggests that she remedy that situation by getting married, which she takes as a proposal of marriage; yet, she politely turns him down as she has decided to accept Pierre's proposal. She exits Mayberry with a song in her heart and a kiss to the cheek to both Andy and then Barney.—Jerry Dean Roberts <armchairoscars@hotmail.com>
