Back to Kobol

Warning: Spoilers
With the fleet still divided Commander Adama must choose a new CAG, the man he selects is keen to show that he has what it takes but it soon becomes clear that he doesn't when his first training missions in the role end in near disaster; morale on Galactica is at a low point leading him to make his most important decision since he recovered. Back with the other half of the fleet President Roslin is trying to persuade people that they must return to Kobol and find the Temple of Athena. While the discussion is ongoing Starbuck returns and they are shocked to discover she has a Cylon with her; namely Sharon Valerii. This Sharon might not be the individual that shot Adama but she is the same model and that is enough for Apollo to want her dead; Helo is not going to stand for that however and we soon have a stand off! Roslin defuses the situation but Sharon still appears to be in danger, until she points out that she knows the way to the Temple of Athena. They head to Kobol and once there she proves her loyalty by firing on other Cylons when they attack them.

This was a good opening to a two-part story, it really looked as if Sharon might get shot and the scene was tense even though it wasn't the first time I've watched the episode. Grace Park is great in the role of Sharon; making the character seen strong and vulnerable at the same time. Another stand out scene was that between Kandyse McClure and Edward James Olmos as Petty Officer Dualla and Commander Adama where she told him what he needed to hear leading to his decision to reunite the fleet. This being the first part of a two-part story we were left with a few unanswered questions such as will Zarek and his friend harm Apollo and just what will Adama do to the people who led the break up of the fleet?

The first of a two parter. It shows how isolated the now recovered Commander Adama is.

The fleet has splintered and talented people such as Apollo are not easily replaceable. The new Commander Air Group makes a mess of the new training mission.

Adama riles up the journalists who dare say that Earth is a figment of his imagination.

In the other half of the fleet, President Roslin steps up her search in Kobol for the Tomb of Athena when she is reunited with Starbuck.

Roslin has the support of her religious supporters. Something Zarek notes an is envious of. It does not stop him and his right hand man Meier having a game plan.

As for Sharon, the duplicate of Boomer has everyone hating her. Even Roslin at one point tells her that she will be imprisoned at one part of the ship and then orders to be thrown out of the ship.

What saves her is that Sharon claims that she knows the way to the Temple of Athena.

It is still an episode that highlights how fragile Adama is and his resolve to do something about it.
