The coroner attributes the cause of death for the man found with a syringe laying on his arm as an air embolis. This is wide-spread myth. It takes a large quantity of air (greater than 50cc) to kill and adult human. So the tiny amount of air he would have gotten while shooting up would not have harmed him.
